Linux Issues / Howto, Faq Or Definitive Answers On Syncing.
« on: March 02, 2005, 04:38:42 am »
Hi All,

Sad to report, that I am very close to binning my zaurus c700 and getting a palm, purely becuase I can't seem to find a way of syncing ko / pi & ka /pi to my gnome desktop (mandrake 10.2)
Before the Zaurus I had a Clie NR70 and syncing to evolution was about as straightforward as you can get. I run a small business in the UK and we run Mandrake 10.1 on all the office PC's, and I have been using the zaurus as my PDA, Ko/pi and Ka/pi are great & I am using cacko 1.22. We share calendars here using the excellent http://www.icalx.com/ to host our .ics files. Both mozilla Sunbird and Evo 2 can publish to these. A palm device unfortunately would provide a way to lliterally sync and go which is what I need.

I have been looking through the forums here and have concluded that there is no way to sync to evolution with Ko /pi or Ka / pi.

The nicest way that I can think of doing this for calendars would be to mount the icalx.com hosted ics file locally on the zaurus using davmount and then sync with it as if it were a local file using the local sync function in Ko / Pi.

Has anyone succesfully mounted webdav shares on their zaurus ?

I can't seem to find any straifghtforward way of syncing Ka / Pi with evolution (or even thunderbird's addressbook)

I can't find a Howto, FAQ or definitive answer on the above any where and am concluding the above is not possible.

It my be worth pinning  answers to the above on this forum.

Hoping I am wrong .

General Discussion / Regular Crashes
« on: November 25, 2004, 08:31:52 am »
I think this is a Cacko thing,  ever since getting my Zaurus C700 I've been getting regular crashes.
The screen goes black and text is printed to screen and the Zaurus boots back to normal from there.
Unfortunately it always happens when I am not prepared and the messages are only up for a second or so.. So it is hard to give the exact screen messages.
There are two messages.
One which seems to be related to use of networking complains about the unavailibility of module ppp-compress.
And the other which can happen under any circumstances complains about /etc/modules.conf being older than something else to do with modules ??
I'm hoping this a known issue with a fix.
Any ideas ?
Can't seem to find a system log with these messages in.

Using Cacko 1.21B

General Discussion / Kingmax 60X SD card = fast swapfile
« on: November 24, 2004, 04:37:40 pm »
I think the C700 has much lower "ram" than the 760 & 860  so my experience of using the Kingmax with a 64mb swap probably gets a double benefit i.e. double the write speed, double the swap ( I also only previously had a 32mb swap)

Thanks,
In answer to my own Q this thread currently running elsewhere on this forum explains exactly what I wanted to do.
https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...?showtopic=8666
Having tried the Kingmax 1gb for a bit with a 64mb swapfile, I reckon I can definitely confirm significant improvements.
This is maybe because I've got a C700, but now I can set ompi, kopi  & kapi  to fast load, open them all up and then open up opera and everything remains snappy.
Definitely couldn't do this before.
Recomend this as an upgrade at least to those owners of C700s out there.
How much faster than regular SD cards are the Kingmax ones ?

Me too,
just got a Kingmax 1 gig SD card to replace my Kingston 256mb SD card and everything seems to be a lot more zippy. Hard to prove conclusively, but definitely seems faster.
A related question, is their anyway I can create a 64mb swap file as Cacko only gives me a maximum option of 32 mb
I also have not links with Kingmax.

General Discussion / Evolution Sync with Hancom Office ?
« on: June 12, 2004, 06:35:33 am »
Hi All,

Just bought an original japanese SL C700
Maybe should have done this before I bought it, but have been digging around and it seems that multisync only works with opie, and opie can\'t run hancom word etc So for  Linux desktop users like myself I can\'t sync with evolution and read/write .doc / .xls files. I  am happily doing this allready with my Sony Clie. These are very basic requirements for business users like myself.

Hoping I am wrong on this.
