Singapore/Malaysia / GST/tax for overseas shipments to Singapore

7. You don\'t have to pay GST if you personally bring the zaurus in from overseas. Doe anyone else find it strange that you have to pay GST if the product was shipped to your home, whereas you don\'t have to pay GST if you bring it in yourself, even though in both cases, the transaction was made overseas?
Don\'t think that\'s entirely accurate. Believe there is a $400 for carrying in new articles. So if you are travelling, you can bring in new articles below $400 w/o paying GST, but above $400, you actually have to declare and pay GST.
Just that practically speaking, it is much easier for customs to stop a parcel than to check everyone walking thru for the total value of new items bought.
So strictly speaking, I think if you walk thru Customs with the Zaurus as a new/unused/sealed article, you are liable for GST. However, if you\'ve started using it, perhaps that could be different? Perhaps that could be treated as a personal effect and so not liable to GST? Just my 2 cents worth. I may be wrong tho\' so can always call Customs to check if you need to.
But the most important question though is -- have you gotten your Z yet?
