OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Gaim Question
« on: January 14, 2005, 08:30:18 pm »
Hello, all.  I installed GAIM as I found it in the Opie feeds.  It installed fine, after I found all the dependancies and such.  However, it wouldn't read a message, and said "There was an error receiving the message."  I found out that this was because I didn't have gconv-modules installed.  I couldn't find "gconv-modules" in the Opie feed, so I downloaded the one from GAIM's sourceforge page.   However, trying to install this package rendered the unsatisfied dependancies of "base-modules" and "kernel-modules", neither of which I can find in the OZ feed.  I have looked extensively, and they are just not there.

Is there some sort of alternate name I should be looking for?  Or is there a problem with my Z (5500), and the base-modules and kernel-modules just didn't get installed correctly?

Thanks for the help.

Alright.  But are you sure it's the battery that's the problem?

General Discussion / Zaurus Bricked
« on: December 11, 2004, 07:56:19 pm »
Hello.  I recently tried flashing my trusty yet rather unreliable Zaurus SL-5500 with OZ 3.5.2.  However, I tried flashing it without the power cord in, as I've done a few times without seeing any ill effects.  Every time I flashed it the mail light went on, but after it went off, I couldn't get the Z to resopond, even after resetting it.  I tried to flash it a few times, but I couldn't get anything.

I took it home and tried to flash it with the power cord, yet it wouldn't work.  I was able to flash it again without the power cord in, and while it was flashing I inserted the power cord and both LEDs lit up and flashed for the normal period of time.  After this, my Z was completely unresponsive.  When the power cord is in, the power LED doesn't light up.  I removed the battery for a while, but the Z remains unresponsive when the battery is in.

Should I attempt to get a separate charger, or perhaps another battery (I've had problems with charging and the battery in the past)?

Thanks.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Media Player for GPE

Turns out XMMS is for Opie or whatever, and there is a package from GPE called gpe-nmf for audio playing.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Ridiculous Bug on GPE

On OZ 3.5.1 and GPE on an SL-5500, it seems that by modifing my user information causes the login screen to hang.  The only way I can figure out how to recover from this is reflashing the Z.  Anyone else with this experience, or is my Z just borked?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Media Player for GPE
« on: November 02, 2004, 04:08:11 pm »
Does anyone know of a media player that will work with OZ/GPE?  I tried to get XMMS to work, but the installation of the various libraries requrired really didn't work, and it was generally a mess.

Has anyone gotten XMMS to work with GPE (and how?) or any other media player?

Much thanks.

Thanks, this worked.  Even though I installed the packages through my CF card it worked, and my Z is no longer useless

Zaurus - pdaXrom / I/O error on sd-card
« on: August 19, 2004, 12:29:48 pm »
I have similar problems as well, but they seem to be related to my Z more so than the SD cards I have.

I first had a PNY 256 mb for a while which worked fine.  I then copied some mp3s onto it using a proprietary program for my mp3 player.  Apparently that borked it for my Z, which has since refused to read any SD card, including a store-bought SanDisk 128 I got a few days ago.  With the new card, dmesg simply says "VFS: Disk change detected on mmcd(60,1)" or something, but doesn't mount it or even read it.  When I "mount -t vfat /dev/mmcda1 /mnt/card" it says "mmcda1 is not a valid block device."  I've tried just about anything.  I might try updating the sd modules, but I doubt that would change anything.  Its definately the fault of my Z, because my mp3 player still reads both cards, as well as my computer, both windows and linux.

I'm about ready to give up with SD cards and use the empty SD card slot to store used gum or something.

Accessories / Zaurus doesn't read SD cards

Thanks for your help.  However, my problem seems to run deeper, given the fact that I bought a fresh card from the store.  When I try to mount mmcda or any other mmcda device, it simply says that the mmcda I tried to mount doesnt exist.  (unknown device)

Anyway, thanks for your help, although my problem still lives on...

When I try ./sdcontrol insert  or  mount -t vfat /dev/mmcda1 /mnt/card  both say that mmcda1 is not a valid block device.  Would this help?

Accessories / Zaurus doesn't read SD cards

I've got an SL-5500, with OZ and such.  Lately, I haven't been able to read my SD cards.  I have had a 256 PNY for a while, and once I put some mp3's on it through some proprietary software, I'm pretty sure it hasnt been working.  I tried to reformat it using Windows into FAT16, but my Z still wouldn't read it.  I tried to see if my friend's ext2 formatted card would work, and it didn't.  I also bought one from the store, and it doesnt work.  dmesg says that a device change was detected, but doesnt do anything about it.  I can try to post the entire dmesg if neccessary.

Any suggestions?

5x00 Hardware / Zaurus 5500 bricked

My Z works again, though for how long, I don't know.  It seemed as if the battery was drained, probably by leaving Opie player on.  Is your battery dead?  For a while, I wasn't even getting LED lights, then after frequent resetting, the battery light came on and stayed on for a long time.  I would check the battery or get a replacement.  It seems as if when the battery is drained, it wont turn on, even if its plugged in.

hope my melodrama helps.

My 5500 is also dead.  I  was just working with it normally, and the battery was fine (I think) when it turned off, and wouldn't turn on again.  I got it to turn on 2 more times, but for possibly the last time.  My Z seems to have all the symptoms described above.  I emailed the Sharp people, but I frankly don't expect a response.  Mine is refurbished, and I've had it practically less than a month.

5x00 Hardware / Zonet ZCF1100 Wifi Compatible
« on: June 13, 2004, 12:35:44 pm »
Is the Zonet ZCF1100 Wifi card compatible with OZ/5500?  My Z says its \"unsupported\".  Is there some way to specifically edit /etc/pcmcia/config to tell the Z to read it?

I have a PNY 256 SD.  It was about $40 with a mail in rebate, but it works fine with my Z.  However, my USB reader cant read it, even though it is formatted correctly.  I have had bad luck with othe PNY cards; my PNY CF card wasn\'t able to flash Open Zaurus onto my 5500.
