Off Topic forum / Firefox 3

Just installed FF3 on my desktop.
They changed the bookmarks export!
Now my bookmarks export as this: "Bookmarks 2008-06-18.json"
the json extension is unusable in any of my browsers on both of my Zauri and desktop PCs.
The old method exported to html.
I tried renaming the above to "Bookmarks 2008-06-18.html"
but all it shows is code when opened in a browser.
I'll have to visit the Firefox forums to see if there is a solution...
Edit
I "jumped the gun". There is an additional option to export as html.
I just overlooked it.

Export HTML two options down  from backup

Oops... sorry, I thought that's where I got mine from.
It could have been from zug which has been down for some time.

can I propose deleting all inactive logins - those who've made less than 10 posts AND not within the last 365 days?

Alot of people only browse and don't post or rarely post. I would suggest anyone who has not visited the forum in the last xxx amount of time.

Site Suggestions, Requests, and Updates / Site Is Broke

This site is still 'broken'. There are still problems with attachments in the posts. The ZUG feed and the downloads are still missing in action.

Some one has resurrected the zaurus themes on another site. I remembered a link to the tkcrom alpha files and posted it in the 5500 discussion. The Cacko files are now reliably hosted elsewhere. The Cacko mol feed appears to be in a working state. not so the cacko.biz one.

I have had no response to my post from any admin person. (Yes I did try a pm...)

Mind you, they do seem to be finding the problems rather difficult to deal with. Meanie has given them some good leads on the attachments front. So what happened with that?

I still think that asking for volunteers to help with the problems would be worthwhile. I also think that it should not be too difficult to make some arrangements for hosting the downloads elsewhere and also the feed.

Is it not a pity that the response to the problems seems so passive?

Perhaps I would feel less irritated and frustrated if someone took the 5 minutes a week to update us on the situation with the site problems?

Hoping for some improvements, if only in keeping us updated!

How about a 'new' sticky thread in some prominent position?

Yes,  I rebooted at some point...maybe not immediately after the install.

Did you just install it with your old Roadmap still in place?  Did you follow the installation instructions in this thread?

I'm now using the zroadmap_1.0-3_arm.ipk from the Cacko feed with my old maps and usdir.rdm.

Quote
Quote
When I install the 1.0.12 version, if I put the NEW usdir.rdm in my map location I get a yellow box that says "No map available"  (yes, I DID edit the preferences file to look in my map location and roadmap looks there because if I rename or delete the usdir.rdm file,  roadmap does not start at all and if I put the OLD usdir.rdm in there,  it complains in console that I need to "upgrade" my version of usdir.rdm!).

So I have tried both the Cacko feed version and the 1.0.12 version and NEITHER one works with the new usdir.rdm and the new maps.

Wish I knew what magic you guys are using.

Our street name is misspelled on the old maps so I sure would like to be able to use the new ones.

I see the preferences file is quite different from one version to another.  The location of the maps is referred to as General.Database: in one;   and in another as Map.Path:   There are other differences too.

Yeah,  I had to reboot to get the icons to show up with the 1.0.12 version mentioned in this thread,  but they showed up without a reboot with the zroadmap_1.0-3_arm.ipk version.

Corky,  which version do you have installed and do you have the new maps working on it??

Corky, roadmap DOES run without gpsd running.  I do it all the time to set up my waypoints before I hit the road.

RoadMapGPS just monitors the satalites that gpsd reports.  It will only show something if your gpsd it running.  The way I do it is I just start qpegps (the qpegps package comes with gpsd) which then starts my gpsd automaticaly.  Qpegps also has a really nice screen that shows the status of my gps with graphs and location info.  Then I load roadmap and tell it to start my trip.  Works every time.

Any more luck on the new roadmap tombraider.

You are correct I tried it and it works with out starting gpsd. When I installed zroadmap I got an error message from the install and the icons did not show up in the applications folder so I started from the command promped and got the same message as tombraider so I started gpsd and it worked. I then went to Tab Settings found that they were there but wern't showing up so I edited one clicked ok and they finaly showed up . I think when you do that that Qtopia is restarted. It may be that all you have to do is restart Qtopia or reboot to get it to work after you install.

He should still be able to start it up without gpsd running and search for his address.  It will just give a gpsd error in the console but still work just fine.  There must be something else wrong.

I could not get it to run without gpsd running and isn't that what the message he got said.

hmm, does it spit anything out in the console when you run it from there?  I downloaded the maps from that location and the usdir.rdm as well ( map directory for RoadMap version 1.0.8 and later).  I'm using the california map only so far.  If I remove my maps and leave only the usdir.rdm I don't get a yellow box saying there are no maps, I just get a blank roadmap screen.

You uncompressed the maps right?  I don't know what it could be.

Also, try searching for your address in North Carolina with roadmap, it may just be trying to use a state that you don't have loaded.  That was the first thing I did when I ran it.
