Deals and Great Z Buys / No-the Sl-6000l On Ebay Right Now Is Not Mine!
« on: November 26, 2005, 04:11:34 am »
I asked the seller what the deal was, and his reply was "this is a joke, I'm not selling anything". Which seemed really silly to me. I've seen the eBay ads for the pyramid schemes and they all say "do not bid" or have 1p buy it now prices.

On the other hand, has nayone actually e-mailed that address to see if they can supply 6000's to the UK at $300 each (is that a good price?).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Is There A Way To Hide The Document Tab?
« on: July 18, 2005, 06:23:47 am »
When the DocTab off feature was first introduced I remember them saying that it will be off until a better alternative could be found. Perhaps the idea of a filemanager would be a perfect replacement, maybe someone from the Opie team could comment. Does anyone use the doctab?

Would you accept cash and a Zaurus 5500(fully working) in exchange?

I never got my registration password from OZ. I'll try again when I have a gap in thesis writing, and upload all the instructions people have sent me (not many).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Possible New Zaurus Kernel For Oe
« on: April 03, 2005, 05:59:00 pm »
The SD slot on an SL5x00 doesn't support any of the SD features anyway (the Secure part), would an MMC driver read an SD card - I would have thought it would. As for speed, surely that's hardware based. Is the actual problem that you can't use a generic MMC driver with the Sharp SD reader chip?

Also, according to the website with info on 5x00 kernels, there are other things not working too. http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~lenz/zaurus/

Maybe someone should try building a kernel with MMC support and do some tests to see what speed/perforamnc you actual get, if it does work.

Before too much more is written, it would be good to produce some documents based on the OPIE and GPE documentation. No need to write instructions form scratch when the basics are already done.

I'm working on an the main manual PDF at the moment. Copying across info from the OZ website. Hopefully we can have a 0.1 release manual, based on what is done so far, ready for OZ 3.5.3.

Opie PIM would be able to select if data file use XML format or some standard as vcal/ical. Somebody knows if Mozilla apps can open this formats?

Mozilla Calendar and Sunbird use .ics files which contain eithe iCal or vCal format (can't remember). The addressbook, however, is mork format. Syncing calendar with datebook is easy, syncing address book isn't unless someone writes a vcard/ldif -> mork script.

The problem is that the Mozilla Addressbook format is really really crap. I've only found one script capable of converting mork to human readable (eg vcard). I did find a post on the Qt maillist about someone trying to write Mozilla plugins for Qtopia desktop, but no follow up. There is campaigning to switch the mozilla address book to an sqlite db. That would make it easier.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / How To Send A File Over Infrared?
« on: March 15, 2005, 06:29:59 am »
In some cases irobex_palm3 can send the file to a remote device but libopieobex can't. It might help in fixing libopieobex if people who can't beam from Opie check whether they can beam from the command line using:

irobex_palm3 test.vcf

Where test.vcf is a simple vcard. If this fails, check if the device (phone / laptop) can recieve IR from another device.

Perhaps adding a small description of each package there would be helpful?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=67086\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

This puts the burden on the maintainers rather than the volunteer document writers. They (the maintainers) have enough to do. This is why the description fields are minimal.

There have been many rants and raves about the lack of documentation for OZ. I plan to put together a set of manuals for as many applications as possible. Not just a collection of tips/tricks/FAQs but a comprehensive manual on using the programs.

For this I will need volunteers. The first stage is to write quides for the most important/common applications. I welcome suggestions on which apps these are, aswell as volunteers to write documentation.

Ideall the document for an app will include:

Installation
Configuration
Use
Bugs/Trick/Tips
Links to source, more info, etc

I have started a webpage at OZ Documentation Project

I can be contacted by e-mail (details on the link above). Let me know which apps you want to write about and I will update the details on the website.

Philip

PS Could the admin pin this post to the top of the forum please?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie-wordgame
« on: February 10, 2005, 04:58:54 am »
Someone asked where the file is that Wordgame creates when you tell it to add a word? Anyone know which file this is? I believe there is a freely available text file with the Official Scrabble Words in. I think it's also possible to configure Wordgame with Scrabble rules (correct letter frequencies, points and bonuses) - any ideas, I had trouble working out the meaning of the numbers in the config file.
