6000 - Tosa / Who has a 6000?
« on: September 27, 2004, 01:04:26 pm »
Got mine is august. Can't imagine not having one now.

I just spent a day with my 5500 installing the new OZ 3.5.1, and I felt like I had a toy in my hands.

Everything works fine. WiFi connects to my home lan without problem. I can Kismet, surf, email, etc...

I just love it...

6000 - Tosa / SL-6000 carry cases
« on: September 15, 2004, 01:49:15 pm »
My solution to a case, which I also used with my 5500, is to get a Daytimer cover, remove all the crap inside it, and use it for my case. I have no idea what the model number is on the one I found for my 6000, I just tried all the ones Fry's had til I found one that fit well enough, and didn't come with the 3-ring metal gizmo in it. The one I settled with measures 7 1/2" x 4 3/8" x 1 5/8". It zips closed, and holds all my credit cards, etc, and has some room for money, but after buying a 6000, that shouldn't be a problem...

They're not really padded, but the leather (black, very nice) is just bulky enough to provide enough protection from drops & the like. I have a slightly smaller version for my 5500, which I've inadvertantly dropped, thrown, kicked etc, and the case protected the 5500 well.

And...the thing only set me back $25...

6000 - Tosa / Zaurus Touch-Screen Problem
« on: August 09, 2004, 03:37:30 am »
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed my 5500 emensely over the last 3 yrs. I've also had 4 different environments on it multiple times. I've tracked with my Garmin & a serial connection, I've war-driven, I get WiFi at home & work without problem. I'm only pointing out that Sharp's is my least favorite of all the software I've used, mostly because it rarely improves.

But the platform rocks...

One might be excused to surmise that Sharp has used the Linux community in so far as they have provided us with a system(s) that has marginally useful software that is no more advanced than the latest version I can get for my SL-5500, yet charge a premium price for it, while offering little or no support.

And yet, I can't wait to get my SL-6000 in a day or so...(sigh)
