I got an SL5500 on Friday, and have completely failed ot make it talk to my desktop computer (a Debian LINUX with kernel 2.4.26).
When I tried to do it with the installed software, I managed to get the USB networking working to the "ping" stage, but I wasn't able to get ssh or ftp to run. All the documentation I found about such problems involved doing things from the terminal, which doesn't come installed.
So I finally went and bought a CF card (lexar 256 MB), and attempted to flash OZ. I eventually was successful with 2.4.18.
Now, there is no reaction from the desktop at all when I put the zaurus into the cradle and push the sync button. Neither /var/log/messages nor 'lsusb' shows any knowledge of the device, although under the original software they both did what I expected. Also, ifconfig on the zaurus doesn't show the usb interface.
Also, while the CF card works fine in the Lexar media reader, and must have worked as expected when I managed to flash the OS in the Zaurus, under OZ I get an icon in the tray but it doesn't seem to be able to read the card. It isn't automounted, and when I try to mount it with "mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/cf', it says: "/dev/hda1 is not a valid block device?"
I've tried reflashing with the Sharp Ospack, and that doesn't work -- which would be a natural consequence of the system not being able to read the card.
I'm stuck -- does anyone have any suggestions?
