C1000/3x00 General discussions / Zaurus SL-C3000

I got my SL-C3000 two days ago, the screen is clearer, the battery seems to last longer (or maybe my old SL-C860 battery was getting old), the browser is, at last, fast enough to browse the web normally.

More important, the included dictionaries are fantastic, that alone justifies to switch from a previous SL-C model.

It seems faster, this may be due to the presence of the microdrive inside. It's "only" a 4 Gb storage, but 4 Gb is plenty of space for this kind of machine.

There was a big drawback, the absence of a Java runtime environment, but it's solved now.

Overall, my impression is that the SL-C3000 is not a revolution compared to the SL-C860, but definitely a positive evolution. I like it. Now I'm waiting for the USB host connectivity to pop up.

Software / Java on the Zaurus SL-C3000

I just bought a Sharp Zaurus SL-C3000 to replace my SL-C860. It is a great pocket computer, but there is a catch: no Java runtime, neither by default or on the "optional packages" CDROM.

Since I use Java a lot, I was taken by surprise, since I didn't imagine Sharp would do such a mistake, and after a little while I managed to get Java on the SL-C3000.

It just works. I still don't understand why Sharp did that, but it can be fixed.

I see what you mean...  Ok, I made a new modification : the current word is automatically copied to the system copy/paste buffer.

Now, on the Zaurus, all you have to do is to open your dictionary and directly paste into it.

Ok, I enlarged the buttons font by 50%. As a result, in default mode, a few words may be too large for the display.

As for the words translation into english, don't forget that JLPT is before all a japanese language test, in japanese, so you'd better get used not to see the words translation together with their japanese form. That's an aspect of training. Neithertheless, if I've got time, I will make another version with more information associated with words, such as sample sentences, or even a definition, written in japanese of course, for example.

Ok, I chmod'ed +x the run script. Strange, it works on my C860, though, if there was a problem, I should have bumped into it in the first place  

Sorry for the tininess of the button font, but I preferred to leave more space for the main display. If it's really too much an inconvenience, and if you really insist, I will change it, but once you have pressed those buttons twice, you ought to remember their functions without having to read them again and again, I suppose.

I've compiled the complete (4 levels, nearly 10,000 words) vocabulary necessary to pass the Nihongo Nouryoku Shiken (Japanese Language Proficiency Test), in the form of a Java application usable on the Zaurus SL-Cxxx series.
