Zaurus - pdaXrom / Java questions
« on: July 28, 2004, 04:50:57 pm »
Hi,

Good to know that someone has tested a "real" swing app that it actually works!.  I'll have to try the pdaXROM and compare the execution times with this vm and the jeode and pp4zaurus ones.

Thanks to all for the information.

X/Qt / xterm problems in X/QT and curly braces
« on: July 22, 2004, 10:36:04 am »
Hi datajerk

I have done a df -h and I've got only 59% used in /dev. and 57% used of the internal ram. If I list all the ptys in /dev i get a lot of /dev/ptya's from /dev/ptya0 to /dev/ptyaf . I've tried to change the permissions of the startx icon so it is executed with root privileges but got no improvement

X/Qt / xterm problems in X/QT and curly braces
« on: July 22, 2004, 06:32:24 am »
Hi all,

I've just installed X/Qt following the instructions of a thread in this forum, i've also installed all the emacs packages. The first problem that I have is that I am not able to execute a simple xterm. I've got the blackbox wm and can even run emacs but if I try to execute the xterm nothing happens. If I start the xserver using the console (typing xinit or startx)  and then try to run xterm from the blackbox menu, i get the following message in the console:

xterm: Error 32, errno 2: No such file or directory
Reason: get_pty: not enough ptys

I am using the Cacko ROM 1.21 b and have installed the xqt-server 0.08 and all the x-qt packages to the internal memory.

The other problem is that I am not able to type the curly braces ( { } )  in emacs, Is there a combination of keys to get this braces? (in cacko's rom is shift+fn+< (or >) )

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Java questions
« on: July 21, 2004, 05:48:10 am »
Hi thanks flens for the information, I didn't know about this jamvm. I have tried the sable vm (which has some swing implemented) in the debian-linux for the zaurus but for what I've seen, it's slower than the pp4zaurus or jeode vm. Do you know if there is any (future) project (supported by the pdaXrom team) for building a decent java vm (perhaps this javavm) optimized for the X11 ROM?.

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Java questions
« on: July 17, 2004, 08:48:44 am »
I am thinking of installing the pdaXrom in my c860 but what i really need is to be able to run (and maybe compile) java programs. I know there is a blackdown java version for this ROM but i don't know what are the differences between this VM and the sun personal profile VM and the jeode vm. Has anyone tried to run a java program in the X11 ROM and compare the times with the jeode or sun vm's?. Does this zaurus-blackdown java has swing implemented? I have seen that there is a jave sable vm for the debian zaurus version (www.pocketworkstation.com) Is it better than the blackdown? are there plans to port this vm to the X11?

Thanks
