General Discussion / Sharp Leaves Pda Market In USA
« on: September 14, 2004, 07:49:58 pm »
To make it clear, I bought a SL-6000L for myself (with expansion) knowing full well sharp would not support the item.  It is a toy for me to play with, the company be damned.

Don't let the stupid stupid company screw up your play time with your geek toys.

General Discussion / Sharp Leaves Pda Market In USA
« on: September 12, 2004, 10:06:41 pm »
Wait... you mean they had a US program going? <sarcasm>

They had no sales team, no support, and basically no information easily available.  I bought the hardware with the understanding that SharpUSA was a myth.

---

What is sad though, is that their idiocy with this mess made them lose out on several dozen sales here alone.

6000 - Tosa / Does Sharp want out?

Speaking as one who has tried to get ahold of corporate pricing and support options, I can say that they don't give a damn about *anyone.*

I think the phone line is actually a payphone somewhere in a dark alley.  Anyone who answers must be a hobo. *sigh*

General Discussion / 2TB memory cards ?!?
« on: August 08, 2004, 06:50:21 pm »
2TB Addressable, 120MB maximum bandwidth.

This is the specs for the interface, not the actual memory being accessed.

This is similar to 48-bit LBA IDE being able to support up to 144 Petabytes.

I have as of yet been unable to locate an importer that will quote me a price on the Zaurus SL-6000w.  Has anyone been able to get ahold of one of these in the States?  Anyone know *how* to get ahold of one?

6000 - Tosa / 'Dream Config' - Possible?
« on: July 12, 2004, 12:53:24 pm »
I seem to have found some applicable bluez headset related information that made it seem as if this had already been done.

For Kernel 2.4.23
For Kernel 2.6.4
Bluez SF.net discussion on headsets and above drivers

Handset support for Bluez

According to text in this, sound is in?

I am unable to test any of this and do not have enough understanding of what it is I am looking at to know if it is applicable in this case.  Perhaps someone else would be able to verify if this works on the Zaurus?  Has anyone yet tried?

6000 - Tosa / 'Dream Config' - Possible?
« on: July 12, 2004, 05:22:44 am »
Ah, thanks.  Well, if all else fails, I guess I will use a usb bluetooth device or something.

Mainly what worries me is the headset/bluetooth/tkPhone.  Promise I am going to sleep now. My eyes feel like burning.

The SL-6000W is what I am trying to get ahold of.  It is possible some form of bluetooth adapter might have to be settled for, but I would rather not.

So...

Sharp Zaurus SL-6000 (hopefully W, perhaps L)
Sharp Zaurus CF Expansion (CE-JC2)
Jabra BT250 Bluetooth headset  (Link)
Magicstor 4.4GB CF hard drive (Link)
TheKompany VoIP software
Low power Ethernet CF (in expansion) (Link)
Bluetooth folding keyboard... perhaps IR.  Unknown model.  Possibly from Think Outside?

Leaves one SDIO open.  If L series only available, likely to be used for bluetooth adapter.

What really troubles me with this setup is that I have no real idea of how bluetooth works.  I have noticed plenty of bluetooth stuff for the Zaurus, but none of the packages specifically stated they supported products like the Jabra headset.

1) Will that headset work with the Zaurus?  (I would rather avoid using the Z audio jack with a wireless transmitter on it.  This is a big 'would rather avoid')
2)  With the tkPhone (or some other VoIP software) function on the SL-6000 using the Jabra headphone?

Also:

3) Are there any problems with this configuration?
4) Will any bluetooth keyboard work with the Zaurus or is it very model specific?
5) Will any IR keyboard work?

Thanks for putting up with my newbie self for a bit.  Now time for sleep!
