General Discussion / High Speed MMC NAND Backup issue
« on: August 03, 2004, 09:27:10 pm »
Hi All,

I bought a Kingston Elite Pro 512MB Compact Flash from some reviews that are claiming that the C860 taks advantage of the higher speed during MPEG movie playing.

Testing NAND Backup, I have not ben able to reach the point where you have to confirm "Yes" to perform the Backup. I assumed (because removing the Compact Flash showed som message) that the initial stage, when NAND Bakup from service menu, is a check of the Compact Flash access.

The compact flash is formatted in FAT16.

I tried with another Kingston 512MB, but, this time a standard speed. I have been to complete the NAND Backup.
BTW, I have not tried to restore the ROM from theBackup...

The Kingston has not shown any other issue when using after the zaurus is up and running normally. At this stage, it works perfectly.
I suspect some low level Compact Flash level driver that are not able to deal with high speed compact flash.

Has any you experienced something similar that would the above theory and would mean that only standard speed compact flash can be used from a C860?

Thanks

Accessories / SD vs CF flash cards?
« on: July 28, 2004, 10:14:05 pm »
Hi Guys,

Just gotten my C860 directly from Japan and have performed most of the conversion to English from the original Sharp ROM 1.40JP.

I have also bought a CF Kingston 512MB Elite PRo given as 5MB/s for writing (2X std CF speed).

The CF works fine with the Z already the overall OS, but, no way to get NAND backup done.  From the service menu, the Z starts the backup process but never hits the point when you have to respond yes before it goes. Removing the CF showed that the Z is trying to test/initialize the CF card.
I tried with another Kingston 512MB std speed and the backup worked (I have not tested any restore yet).

At this point, I think that the soft performing the NAND backup is not able to handle the High Speed CF but would like to have confirmation.

Anybody of you has a Kingston Elite Pro CF and tried already NAND Backup on it?

Thanks
