another idea is to have a rom without apps .make an sd card ext2 or 3 and load needed apps to that.
this way the rom would be small

this is what i did to make an ext3 sd card

umount /mnt/card
mkfs.ext3 /dev/mmcd/disc0/part1
 

i could never load ipks from bash but i use the package manager and select  sd card as the place to install i could never get it to load from cf card so always installed from internet

if you reboot the icon will be gone then type this ( thanks to pgas for this)

ln -s /mnt/card/usr/share/applications/* /usr/share/applications
ln -s /mnt/card/usr/share/pixmaps/* /usr/share/pixmaps

hit the purple x in lower left corner and exit
then startx

1). Remove battery completely
2). Hold down FN D M and then plug in AC power

what patition size did you make it
i had to use 45 meg i think isaw some where you where trying 47
47 didn't work for me.

at which step are you talking about .
it does a reboot after setting partition
and reboots after rom is installed.
did you make partition size 45 meg

the 750 and 700 have size issues may be a rom could be made without some of the apps, like dilo .this could just use more room and use a sd card to run apps

get the 760 extra space.
it's on when you hit the power button.
firefox takes about 20 seconds to start but it's the niceest broswer for the pdax rom.
giam is great.
as for laptop or 760 . it's either size or power. your choise.
there are lots of apps look here

i can't get in to my service menu  (D+M) to i distroed it loading japanese rom. but i can still use OK + POWER on to load .  there is a precdure to get D+M menu back i have the link at home and will post for you later.

i have a c750
the rom takes most of the room.
so i use a sd card (kingston) with a ext3 format.
and have loaded all my apps to that, works great for me.
