Try [Fn] + O and P ? on the Cacko QT ROM, I think, should work on standard ROM
or [Fn] + U and I on pdaXrom

Accessories / A hard lesson about Sandisk SD cards

Apparently speed is the main difference, and the ability to "lock" the card (the Zaurus doesn't support security features of the SD cards does it?)

Anyhow, I found a site that did some timing tests with the two cards:
Speed of SD vs. MMC

But yeah, in general, the SD cards are supposed to be 4 times faster than the MMC cards.
LOL!
Yes, I mean't beyond that   I understood that the Z uses SD cards without security support so a card behaves like a MMC card.  That's why I've never bothered with SD. Interesting point about SD being x4 faster than MMC, I'll have to look into it some more, but I've been happy with the MMC cards I've had so far from Jessops.

Well, we finally agree on something then
I too am resolved to never buy from them...   buttmunches.

I did have problems with it once after putting a swap partition on it. (given how slow the SD interface is, I don't know what I thought I was doing  )  It was ext2 formatted..
Is there a major difference between SD and MMC? I've been using ext2 formatted MMC cards with swapfiles on two Z's now for well over 18 months with no problems, doesn't seem that slow either.

The general consensus regarding Sandisk cards though does seem to be - avoid them!!!

that was me   there was a pun in there too!

Does this mean that once the file system gets badly corrupted and fsck can't fix it, you can no longer use the card?
That basically was my experience with the cards I got from ebay, one supplier changed the card three times (same brand) and the same problems occured, pain in the butt eh?

Have you noticed any significant performance increase when using ext2 instead of VFAT ?

MY own tests copying large Ogg and MP3 files to a Lexar 512MB CF card, show ext2 is roughly 10 times slower than FAT

But I'm not sure about SD/MMC cards, I use an MMC card for my home directory which is ext2, but I've never tried transfer tests on it, I formatted it ext2 the day I bought it.

Sharp ROMs / Would I need to backup Hancomm/Java for Cacko ?
« on: July 31, 2004, 07:30:19 am »
No it shouldn't be, different architecture to the 3.1x ROMs on the 5x00 machines.

But as for syncing, I've never sync'd in my life as I'm running Linux and don't use PIM apps. So I'm not able to advise there

Just been reading through this thread, I've had very similar experiences with some MMC/SD cards, I got some cheap off ebay but as soon as I formatted them with a different FS, all manner of I/O problems arose, even when reformatting as FAT. I can't remember the brands though but PQI or PNY do sound familiar.  Anyway we have a camera shop chain here in the UK called Jessops, I've found their branded cards (I only buy MMC now) work very well, especially as I use the MMC for ext2 and my $HOME directory.  I thought Sandisk was bad though, I'm sure I read something here about it. You can get away with using cheap brands, as long as you find the right one.

You don't need to do that, Hancom stuff is included in the ROM, Java is on your original CD which came with the Z.

As for what you loose, I only had the original ROM on for a few hours before wiping it, so I can't help here.  But you will loose the Japanese dictionary thing (I never tried it), I had a sample video preinstalled which is not on my CD, you'll loose that unless you copy it off first. Other core programs remain, included by default with 1.21b is a swap memory manager which is very useful, Kino2 video player, a terminal (not sure if that is there by default with the Sharp ROM), the media player from the 6000 is included with a GUI makeover and the ability to play OggVorbis files.  All the PIM stuff, hancom, help browser, standard music and video players are the same. There probably are more additions/removals but I can't remember anymore than that.

Well, my earlier sentiments still stand.

I don't know much about US companies but it's odd that the "President" of a company answers every email, usually with his foot in his mouth.

I wonder if it's just a front for some programmers?

The more I read and hear, the more I am convinced that theKompany really does not deserve the patronage of it's customers. This is just my opinion of course, but a company like that deserves to fold.

People have replied in your original thread, I doubt you don't need two threads ;-)

The only UK dealer I know of is ShirtPocket, they MAY be able to send it to Japan on your behalf, but you will have to contact them yourself and ask.
