Zaurus - pdaXrom / Bluetooth Cellphone Modem
« on: September 11, 2007, 01:15:28 pm »

I've gotten pdaXii13 running on my C3200 and everything is great!  This is the best RO
M implementation I have seen on many Zaurii over the years!

Thanks to all who have helped me to get this installed and running.

Now I have a new challenge - I'd like to use my cell phone as a modem via Bluetooth.  So far the only thing I can find on the subject is on Hluc's excellent page on pdaXii13:
Quote
GPRS network connection via Bluetooth also works. Make sure /etc/bluetooth/pin contains your PIN and then use the PPP config tool to configure the preconfigure GPRS profile to look for your phone. Then use the PPP dialer to connect to the phone to enable the GPRS connection.

I've done that, entering my Cingular information into the PPP config tool, and when I try to connect wiht the PPP dialer, it gives
"Failed to open /dev/rfcomm0: No such device"

/dev/rfcomm0 is specified as the device on the Modem tab of the PPP config tool, and was already filled in.  It's just a plain text field, no other choices offered.

Based on some other threads (not for pdaXrom) it looks like hciconfig is to Bluetooth as ifconfig is to Wi-Fi, but when I run it it returns nothing.

The Bluetooth card is an AmbiCom BT2000-CF and cardctl ident says

product info: "Compact Flash", "Bluetooth Card", "", ""
   manfid: 0x0319, 0x0000
   function: 2 (serial)

I'm not sure where to go from here, I'd appreciate any help or advice.

TIA

I have this working on Beta3, so I'm not sure how helpful my comments will be.

Firstly make sure you have searched for the phone using BT DUN on the PPP Modem dialog.

Then I found that at least one reboot of both the phone and the Zaurus was required.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Where Has Contrib Feed Gone
« on: July 10, 2007, 11:56:43 am »
I wanted to install GNUdoku from the pinned contrib thread.

But I hit a snag

dependencies
glibmm2_2.8.4_armv5tel.ipk
gtkmm2_2.6.5_armv5tel.ipk
libsigc++2_2.0.17_armv5tel.ipk

all of which can be downloaded from:
http://mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/armagon

But the mail.pdaxrom.org/contrib/ folder no longer exists.

I found a feed for the ipks referenced in the thread, but not for the supporting components.

Any ideas where this stuff can be found?

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rss Viewer For Pdaxrom
« on: May 21, 2007, 11:22:21 am »
Sorry, perhaps I'm being stupid but I can't download that.

If I click on it, then I get the text file open in a new tab (Firefox) or window (IE). If I right click and pick save as, then I get the index.php html file saved instead.

If I use wget then I get the html file.

Go on, tell me how to download it....

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Brightness Keys

Hi Andrew,

from http://www.thesounddesign.com/zaurus/beta3.htm:

------------[Fix Zoom + Brightness keys]-------------

The default install does not have the [Fn] + [1,2,3,4] hot keys correctly set-up. This means you cannot zoom, or change brightness. [Fn] + [1,2] switches between SVGA 640x480 and VGA 320x240. [Fn] + [3,4] raises or lowers the brightness. This is handy to have in daylight, as full brightness is much easier to read. To bring this usability back you need to change the line in /usr/X11R6/bin/startx from -

defaultserverargs=" -nolisten tcp"

to ->

defaultserverargs=" -nolisten tcp -kb"

You can use vi from a command line, or leafpad from the display to edit. Save the file when you're done. Exit X, and when you restart X your [Fn] keys will work properly.

That's great, thanks. I was searching for keyboard mapping, no parameters to X.
No wonder I couldn't find it.

Sorry, because I know that this information is in the forum archive somewhere, but I can't find it and I've run out of possible search phrases.

I recently reflashed back to Beta3, and the FN-F3 for brightness down and FN-F4 for brightness up don't work.

I expected that, because it never worked with B3 OOTB, but I can't find what to change to make it work.

Please can somebody remind me.

Thank you

Zaurus - pdaXrom / New Pdaxrom Release R197
« on: April 20, 2007, 03:27:44 am »
My experience is the same wrt power.

After installing uboot the charging light never comes on again.

The battery level gets lower and lower as it's never charging.

If I use the engineer's controls to switch on charging manually, then the light comes on and the battery appears to charge.

NAND restore back to Beta3 (ie anything before uboot) and charging light works fine.

Did this get restored? I can't find anything on mail.pdaxrom.org.

Is there a mirror somewhere?

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / How To Install 121

Yeah, don't bother upgrading to 121 since a newer version is going to be immanently released (so we've been told).

But if I didn't upgrade I had Sharp ROM or a brick. I'd like to go to the new version, but still waiting...

OK, I got it to install by putting the files on my ext2 SD card instead of my CF card.

So now I have a bootable system.

Thank you

I did that and it just sits there.

If I do
ls /mnt/cf
then it just freezes as well.

How should the CF be formatted? I've tried FAT, FAT32 and ext2.

Following these instructions
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=23209
I can get the emergency system to boot.

But it just says:

-sh03.00#

There's no running of the autoexec.

I stuffed up my C860 Beta2 a couple of weeks ago, and the NAND backups that I thought I had were missing. Never mind - all my actual documents and emails were on the SD card, so I'll just reflash and reinstall.

But I thought I'd make that big leap into u-boot / 121 land.

So I downloaded 121 and u-boot and tried to find instructions. But the instructions were really quite out of date.

Please can somebody give me a noddy guide to how to do this.

I have done the following:

1. downloaded 121 to my laptop.
2. formatted my 512MB cf card as FAT
3. copied all the u-boot files to CF
4. rebooted with OK pressed, as though I was doing a beta1 install
5. Lots of messages flashed passed about (I presume) memory being updated.
6. System said Rebooting. and stopped. So I pulled the battery out.
7. I reformatted the card again, and copied the 121 files onto it.
8. Reboot with OK does nothing.
9. Reboot with C&D just makes battery & mail leds flash.

Have I taken the right action. What did I do wrong?

I have an original NAND backup that I can restore from (SHARP rom and loader).

What should I do next?

Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Bluetooth To Xp
« on: August 23, 2006, 08:25:33 am »
Thanks

I have made some progress.

I have found the --nodetach option to PAND which is running it in the foreground and therefore showing my error message.

I am getting this error:

Connect to 00:0E:...:76 failed. Protocol error(71).

I can start pand as the master (GN) and connect to it from XP, but not the other way round.

Any ideas?

Thank you

I have a bluetooth CF card which I can use to link to my Motorola phone and connect to the web via Vodafone.

I now want to connect to my office desktop PC, which is running XP. I have bought a USB bluetooth card for the desktop and installed it.

I cannot get a link between the Zaurus and the PC. I have tried initiating a link at the PC end, but it comes up asking for a passcode and there is no equivalent prompt on the Z, so no connection.

I have tried using PAND on the Z, but it just returns, with no reaction on the PC, and with no errors etc on the Z.

Each machine can see the other when I scan, but I cannot get them to talk.

Has anybody got anything like this working? Any ideas?

Kit in use:
Z: Beta3, 860, Anycom Blue-CF LSE-139
PC: Dell optiplex, XP, Mikomi BT USB

Thank you
Andrew

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Slypheed - Inbox To Sd?
« on: June 19, 2006, 03:56:36 am »
I did this with a symlink - I created a folder called Mail on /mnt/card and symlinked ~/Mail to it.

I did the same with ~/Documents and that makes upgrades/reflashes much easier.
