Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sl-c1000/c3100 Rc12 Test

When using mplayer with these options:
mplayer -ao oss -vo bvdd:rotate=-1 -vm video.avi
How do I stop the video ?
I tried q as written in the mplayer's help, Ctrl-q, Cancel and other combinations but no go.

On my 3100 mplayer seems to react to the device with the red arrows (don't know how to call it precisely). CLicking on the right arrow skips a section of the move, and when it comes to the end mplayer stops. Not a very clean method, but it works. The jogdial seems to have the same effect, but less smooth.
Is there a way to control the sound volume?

plz try suspend/resume, check if harddrive accesible after resume. Try bootup with inserted memory CF and without ) try test more
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=98891\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

OK, after suspend/resume things seem to work fine here so far.
There is one thing however: if I boot/reboot with CF in the slot, CF is /dev/hda1, harddisk is /dev/hdc. If I boot without CF in the solt hdd is /dev/hda. As the partitions on hdd are always mounted correctly (/mnt/idex) this is not a problem, I would find it more "logical" if the dev would not change (but maybe that's not possible): say reserve /dev/hda for CF and always put hdd as /dev/hdc. Anyway I probably won't use CFs much as there is the 4GB hdd and even my Linksys wifi card works well so it will live in the slot most of the time.

I did not experience any crash since I installed RC12, but I'll keep you informed if it does happen.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc11/12 & Icewm
« on: October 11, 2005, 01:37:11 am »
I've been toying with RC11 and RC12 on my 3100 these past hours and am globaly satisfied. After three month of Sharp ROM it feels like being back home  .
However I downloaded icewm from the feeds - and liked many things there: you can hide the taskbar, change the window decorations...  The problem is that other things seem to be missing (or I did not find them): how do you unmount a card (I did this from the command line). And it lloks like you can only shutdown the system, not suspend...  Also, I did find some files that looked like configuration for icewm, but modifiying them does not seem to have any effect.

In short, it would be nice to have a few informations as to the pdaxrom implementation of icewm.

Thanks, Thierry

Forgive me if this is too simple a solution as I have a SL-C860 but you do have the power cord plugged in right?  It took me a lot of reading to find that was my problem, where the screen with the OK button translates into "please plug in the power cord"
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=98867\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

You got it! Actually, I did have the power cord plugged in (I always have when flashing) but it was plugges in an outlet with a switch and that one was turned off ! Well, now I'll give RC11/12 a look.

Look C1000/C3100 test thread and fix XServer and pcmcia scripts with files from there

I've looked but everything seems to me to be related to correcting thins in RC11. My problem is that I can't install it (from the menu, once I choose the source for installation, it won't install, that's all.

Thanks. I've done a nand backup and backed up ma harddisk to give RC11 a try. However, no luck: whatever I choose (CF or SD) instead of booting I get a text box in japanese with only an "OK" button that brings me back to the first menu.
I guess my cards are not found to be what the Z would like, but I am at a loss why (they were fat formated just like the one I used for the nand backup.

I'm downloading RC12 now to see if this changes something.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Stability?

Hi everybody. This is NOT a flame! I have been addicted to the pdaXrom (on a C760) and I have contributed to funding the development. So I definitely love it.
However, I bought a 3100 when it came out and had to get back to the Sharp ROM. It may be boring, but it just works. Now I have a working Z and come back here to find out there is a pdaXrom that should install on it and...  I am really wondering what I should do: If RC11/12/?? are really beta I'd probably wait a little before blowing my installation.

If I can expect the basic functions to work well (I mean, if I don't have to take out the battery twice a day to cure a freeze and if I don't loose my calendar files) I'll try at once.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kathrin RC2 available now
« on: August 31, 2004, 01:43:27 pm »

Just found time to flash RC2 and it's pretty terrific.
I'm a little lost at what was included in the original flash and what I've installed later, but AbiWord works great (I'd say it was installed with the original flash) but Gnumeric does not, it crashes due to a segmentation fault. Don't know exactly what's the reason.

ALso I noticed that some apps open windows greater than the screen - easily fixed but it would be nice to have them right the first time.

Another problem is tcl/tk 8.4.6. ipkg seems to install tcl ok, but wants to install xfree430_430_armv5tel and fails (error unpacking data.tar.gz). I don't know why xfree430 should be installed, anyway after installing tk you get no wish - so you can't start graphical tcl/tk apps.....

The good news is that I carefully kept the ipks of tcl and tk 8.4.1 (previous ROM, not sure exactly wich) and installing them by hand cures the problem. Maybe the yctual tk build is only intended for Python users (?!?) but it would be nice to include wish...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Playing video in 320x240 fullscreen
« on: May 02, 2004, 05:33:14 am »
Hello,

I followed the example but when I try to run mplayer it fails with the following error: fbdev: can\'t find requested video mode FATAL: cannot initialize video driver. This is on a C760 with latest pdaxrom. I tried simply removing the \"-vo fbdev\" and it works - however the Z freezes soon after start. I\'ll take a look at the mplayer version but could someone explain to me why on my machine I have *not to* use fbdev?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / What\'s going on (CF problem)?
« on: April 27, 2004, 03:33:50 pm »
Hello!

I\'ve got this: I create an ext2 partition on a CF card. I format it. (all this on a C-760). I put it in a card reader on my Linux machine, copy some files, put it back in the Z and get this:

cardmgr: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1.
cardmgr              or too many mounted file systems

This happens with pdaxrom 1.0.5 .

I reformated the CF to FAT (in my camera) and now it works. So my Linux PDA can\'t exchange data with my Linux Desktop without using FAT? Or am I missing something?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / thanks to cacko/usb mass storage (muvo2)
« on: March 21, 2004, 04:06:59 am »
Well, my experiences were not at all that positive. Since I\'ve been trying the X11/Xpda ROMs I wrecked an SD card (t\'was a Sandisk, so this may have nothing to do with the ROM) and repetedly had problems with the CF card (not working in ext2, not being seen after a wake up when in Fat, having to save the data to the main machine and reformat it, newly formatted card not working (it was mounted, but it seemed empty)....

I\'ve reverted to the cacko-qtopia ROM, I miss X11 but the cards work.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / sleep freeze and fonts (pdaxrom 1.0)
« on: March 12, 2004, 05:10:50 pm »
]Have you tried running xset +dpms in an xterm before sleeping? That worked for others (and me) with just a normal sleep freezing (not running xmms).

Yes, it does work. Could you explain what it does? Can we automate this - it looks like the \"effect\" will last until next reboot, could it be put in some starting script?
And Thanks for this information )

Zaurus - pdaXrom / sleep freeze and fonts (pdaxrom 1.0)
« on: March 11, 2004, 01:25:54 pm »
I\'ve flashed the new ROM and overall it seems nice. I have noticed one problem and have a question:

- if I leave my tcl/tk apps loaded and set the Z to sleep, on wake up they close. That\'s not too bad. However if I leave gtk applications opened (xmms and gqview) and set the Z to sleep it simply freezes - I have to remove the battery to restart it.
I?m not sure if this is gtk linked or if it has to do with the fact that the apps open files on the CF card.

- The X fonts are still tiny. I\'ve found I can change the font size in Qtconfig but it won\'t change the fonts in an X window. There also is a (quite large) \"fonts\" ipk but there is no documentation and as I\'m quite tight on space I won\'t install it until I know what it does.

NO, I\'m not abandonning the X11 ROM but my thinking was: if I get a C-860 to get more space on it, and want to sell the C-750, most probably the buyer will want the \"original\" system.

If you have installed teh xpdarom, and modified the NAND partitionning, is it possible to return to the original ROM?
