I'm in the US.  I may have a buyer for it, however.  I hate to let it go, but I just can't justify keeping it around.  This thing is mint - could pass for brand new.  I'll post another note if this falls through.

For Sale / Wanted / Any Thougts On What My C860 Is Worth?
« on: July 14, 2005, 10:05:00 pm »
I'm thinking about selling it.  I just don't have time to do anything with it.  I hardly use my laptop, nevermind my Z.

I'm trying to decide if I should sell it fully loaded or what.  The thing has 5 or 6 hours of use at best.

-Overlay Brilliant screen protector installed
-Expensive Japanese case (Extreme Limit)
-Wireless card
-Stylus (nice one - Palm one I think - fits perfect)
-1gb SD
-Zaurus remote/headphone

I could easily make the 1gb SD optional.  Everything else is really tied to the Z, though.  I've only been using it for MP3s - why not just get an IPOD, right?  I dunno.

If anyone wants to make an offer, or just suggest what it's all worth, please do.

Cxx0 General discussions / Using My Z In The Extreme Heat
« on: June 28, 2005, 09:34:17 pm »
I just got a transfer in my company.  I'm driving a vehicle that does not have a radio.  We are allowed to bring out own boombox into the vehicle and use it during the day - we have to secure it via straps.  Okay, so I got one.  Reception is pretty good, but I get somewhat bored with regular AM/FM radio - though I do listen to a lot of talk shows.  Regardless, I bought an industrial type of radio (heavy duty) that has an aux. input.  The radio has a little cd case on the side that would be perfect for putting my Z in.  There is a small hole in the case where I could run a mini-jack to mini-jack cable.  I could even wrap the Z in some sort of protective wrap (the vehicle can ride fairly rough on some of the roads) and still put it in the CD case.

Sounds good, right?  I can use my Z and have access to my 1gb SD card.  My concern is the extreme heat in the summertime.  The front of the vehicle can get upwards of 90-100 degrees, I'm sure.  There are sliding doors on each side, both of which are open, so there is good ventilation throughout the day.  What I'm saying is, it wouldn't be like it's just left in the back of a parked car to cook.  I'm just concerned about the screen and what not.  Obviously the screen would be off, but would the heat potentially damage anything in the Z?

Let me know what you guys think.  I don't use my Z enough and think would be a nice opportunity to get some use out of it.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / New Zaurus Announced: Sl-c1000

Looks good to me; microdrive never attracted me.  I don't want a hard drive in my PDA.  I just assume buy a bunch of SD cards, really.  I want bigger memory, not a hd.  But even so, this still isn't enough reason for me to change from the C860.  C'mon, Sharp, give us something more.  I don't even care about bigger screen, but I do want a faster cpu.

Can it be done?  Playing music stops after 30 minutes.

General Discussion / Jogging With The Z
« on: February 25, 2005, 06:46:32 pm »
What do you think?  Have the C860 and would like to take it on jogs to listen to music.  Besides the obvious - falling and crushing it, or it falling out of a belt strap - do you think the actual act of jogging and the unit being bounced around could potentially damage it?

Sharp ROMs / Are Cacko Apps Legal?

That's certainly interesting. I didn't know that you could download later versions of the Opera browser for the Zaurus - when I checked the Opera website (www.opera.com), I couldn't see any Zaurus version available there... where is this available from?

Does anyone know if the other apps available in the Cacko ROMs are distributed freely, or legal in some other way?

Do a search - someone linked to the IBM posting before.  But really, if you're not comfortable using them, don't.

General Discussion / Between A C750 And A Sl6000

When faced with a decision such as yours, I try to take emotion out of the equation and look at which brings me the most benefit with the fewest drawbacks.

Based on what you have indicated, "I have been using both - but of late I am tending to like the 6000 more because of its utilitarian functionality - bigger screen, built-in wifi and USB (rarely).", the 750 looks like the candidate that should get the boot.

I understand your dilemna, the clamshell is the best designed handheld currently available, but the 6000 seems to be a better fit for what you want to do.  Plus, it means carrying around fewer accessories.  My 2 cents.

I don't mind the wireless card sticking out of my c860.  I use it all the time, so it's in all the time.  USB host I'd never use.  Screen could be bigger, but the reflective issue isn't a problem for me as I don't use the Z outdoors.

But it illustrates the point that each user has their own preferences and must determine which is the best fit for them.

General Discussion / Will The New Clio Nxt Run Zaurus Software
« on: February 15, 2005, 01:39:55 pm »
10" screen is just too big.  I want, well, a pocket pc, which is exactly what the Z is.  The only thing I'd like on the Z is a faster processor and a slightly larger screen, so I can play and enjoy movies at full resolution.  If it had that, I'd be happy.  I can live with my WLAN card installed and I don't want a hdd - 1/2gb SD is fine by me.  But even now I'm happy and I'm now going to start playing with converting some of my DVDs for Z playback.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Rom 1.22 Hotfix A Is Available!
« on: February 15, 2005, 01:19:58 pm »
Are there still battery charging issues with the latest Cacko?  I recall reading this in another read, but couldn't find it when I searched.

It seems my Z wants to charge forever.  I finally let it go for a few hours but it still never finished.  By finished I mean the orange light never went green.  When I turn the unit back on the status shows 100%, so why does the light stay orange?  I'm wondering if I should power off and try it w/o the ROM loaded.  I just don't want to overcharge and kill the battery.

I know maslovsky said he had that issue and just let it charge up for however many hours, and after that it seemed to be good.  Anyone else find that to be the case?  I just don't want to kill my unit.

Have a C860 with 1.22A.

Thanks.

Sharp ROMs / Favoured Version Of Scummvm On Cacko Feed

I can package it up tonight and I'll PM you with a download location.  If it is OK it'll get pushed to the feed.

This sounds excellent news. Since the flac support is largely down to user preference (encode WAV to mp3, ogg or flac) then I don't see that as a major showstopper. Most people will want the best compression and mp3 seems to be providing that at the moment via libmad.

So... any chance of a copy or are there still a few gremlins?

I'd like to test too if that is okay.

Sharp ROMs / Problem With Opie Addressbook Under Cacko
« on: February 11, 2005, 11:14:47 am »
Quote
Problem solved, the addressbook was fastloaded, so there was a running addressbook process, so it didn't allow me to changed it. Solution: from terminel you can kill the addressbook (killall -9 addressbook), than uncheck run in magnified mode, than start addressbook. This solves the multisync problem to, like stupkid said in the other topic. I worte a shell script, for backing up the pim's xmls, kill the pims (than the xmls screwed up), restore the xml from the backup, than start pims. I put an icon for it on the pim tab.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=66615\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Why the script though?  Once you uncheck magnified, isn't it fixed?  Why the need to backup, kill, restore, start?

Also, what are you syncing from?  Evolution 1.x or 2?

Sharp ROMs / Problem With Opie Addressbook Under Cacko

I use the cacko lite rom, and when i start the addressbook, it switches to qvga mode, the tap and hold, and uncheck the magnify doesn't work, it cannot be unchecked, if i start it from command line, ti works well. I am using the opie-addressbook, and this is on c-760.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=66082\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I assume the same is happening for me.  What is qvga mode?  When I start it the screen turns a grayish color and then it starts up in portrait mode.  And yeah, command prompt is fine.  Weird.

I think that's because you still have Sharp addressbook fastloaded. Restarting Qtopia should fix it.

How does one restart Qtopia?  I've restarted the Z and that hasn't helped.

Sharp ROMs / Multisync For Cacko

maybe a bug in evo2 plugin? what distribution do you run?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=65543\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

You need to launch the Opie addressbook from the command prompt - be sure to specify path or go to path and run with ./addressbook

Otherwise you are just running the Sharp addressbook.

I posted another thread on this Opie address book issue and the Cacko author responded with some input, but I haven't researched it.
