5x00 Hardware / Audio In/out From 1/8" Phone Jack

I just added a post at the Skype for Linux forum (http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=4017) requesting that Skype be ported to the Z (please vote!).  However, I'm wondering if my hardware (SL-5500) can even handle audio in and out, that is, it doesn't have a built-in microphone, right?  Is it possible to get internet telephony working on the SL-5500 without an external microphone?

Nice work, javamatte!  I agree that we need more HOW-TOs like this, and a central place (wiki?) for them to reside.  Along those lines, can anyone talk me through the steps for getting the Hancom Office apps (the newer ones) to work on OZ 3.5.2 as well?

What about a similar approach to the hentges.net ROM and the cardfs binary - at install time, it asks if you want to install the apps in the cardfs binary.  These then get installed to the SD card.  It would be great to have all these extra admin/network/etc. apps preconfigured and ready to install at flash time.

I started out treating OZ 3.5.1 as a polished release that would work out-of-the-box and was also disappointed that it didn't perform as such.  But, as was pointed out already in this thread, this is an alpha release only - more of a sneak preview than a reliable release.  And considering the massive changes made to transition to the Open Embedded architecture (which will pay dividends in the long run, I think), I'd say the OZ team has done great work.  If this is any indication of what we can expect in 3.6 stable, I'm eagerly waiting for it!

I had to reflash.  Hrw, can the default for the security feature be set to 'do nothing' if it doesn't find any plugins, instead of assuming there is something installed?  Or maybe a default plugin (root password login?) could be included with the security package out-of-the-box?

None of my apps in OZ 3.5.1 show up after install until I restart OPIE, don't know about GPE...

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Where is the best place to report bugs?

I'm really impressed with the OZ 3.5.1 release, and would like to know where to submit bug reports to help improve it.  I'm using OPIE... but I'm not sure where the best place is for submitting bug reports, since I don't know if a given bug is related to OPIE, or to the OpenZaurus implementation of OPIE, or if it is a bug in the Open Embedded architecture on which the new OZ is built...

Where is the best place to submit bug reports?  I'm guessing that it would be more helpful to OZ programmers if they didn't have to browse the ZUG postings to find bug reports.  Is the bug tracker on sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=434956&group_id=43045&func=browse) the correct place for reporting any bugs encountered in OZ 3.5.1?

Update: This turned out not to be a problem with Konqueror, which works fine when rotated.  Another package hung OPIE and wouldn't let it restart.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.5.1 Wlan w/ Pretec not working

I'm using a Pretec CF WLAN card on OZ 3.5.1 (SL-5500, 64/0) with OPIE 1.1.6 and it works perfectly, usually without any additional configuration.  It binds to eth0, and I've been leaving the networking set to 'any', and it associates right away with the access point (at which point the light on the card stops flashing and remains on).  I've only used it with non-WEP APs so far.  

Can you give more information on what happens when you try to use it?  BTW, I've found that it seems to work best to power on the Z, plug in the card, then start Network... otherwise, go into the eth0 configuration menu, re-scan the neighborhood, and see if it will re-configure the setup automatically.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / opie-mail inbox won't show

I can send mail from opie-mail (OPIE 1.1.6), but when I click on the account inbox, the taskbar informs me that there was an error initializing the folder.  I've installed everything to SD (64-0 image) and have /root linked to /mnt/card/root... I have an out-box and a sent folder under Applications/opiemail.  Any idea where my inbox went?

Another question: am I missing something or is there no 'get mail' icon in opiemail?

Software / IRK 2.0

Maybe that's what's hanging my Z?  I had thought it was due to a problem with rotation, but maybe not.  I installed to a 64-0 image, so installed to my SD card, ipkg-link recognized it, but I've not been able to load OPIE since... on a hunch, I booted to runlevel 3, ipkg remove irk, /etc/init.d/opie start... and I'm up and running again.  It looks like IRK hung something.  Anyone else see this pattern?

I tried to enable the security in OPIE 1.1.6 under the assumption that my root password would get me back in after suspending.  I couldn't get back in at all - everything I tried was rejected ('Try Again...').  I had assumed that not having any plugins listed merely meant that my password was the only way back in.  If a plug-in is required, I would have thought that OPIE would not allow me to enable security without one.  Is there something I missed, or is this a bug?

I tried to rotate Konqueror (OZ 3.5.1, OPIE 1.1.6) and OPIE hung so bad that I had to flip the 'replace battery' switch to reboot.  Doing so resulted in a blank screen (on, but black with some artifacts) when booting to runlevel 5.  Any idea what went wrong and how to recover things without reflashing - it wouldn't be the end of the world, but I'd like to think I don't need to reflash every time I mess up my Z!

cwaig, I'm using OZ 3.5.1 and I don't remember if IRK works under OZ/OPIE (I seem to remember it did on older versions).  If it does, I'll be glad to check out the new IRK 2.0 with a Palm IR keyboard.

Thanks, Konqueror works!.  Do I need to run this every time I install something to /mnt/card?

Also, do I need to manually add a launch icon?
