Android / Android On Sl-5600 (poodle)

It doesn't matter whether you use SD or CF, both work as long as you use ext3

1. /dev is populated when running /init
2. For the M5-RC1? release I didn't bother to build the binder code as a kernel module. Androidzaurus tried to do that, but said it didn't seem to work, so I didn't bother to try.
3. No, I took the 2.6.23 vanilla kernel, the android 2.6.23 kernel sources and created new diffs.

What version did you use, the M5-RC1? or the older M3-RC37 ?

I used M5-rc14 from here: http://www.omegamoon.com/blog/index.php?en...ry080303-221250

Would you be willing to post your diffs so I can build a kernel for poodle? The benno diffs are confusing and think causing me issues.

Did you use an ext3 partition to run Android from?

No, I didn't. Saw your notes regarding that and tried, however, my 5600 didn't recognize the ext3 partition when I made one on my SD card. Does it perhaps have to be on CF? I guess I'll try that.

1. I noted that your /dev is empty, should it be populated from my devices /dev?

2. this whole binder - can that just be insmodded in my 5600's /dev or does it need to be copied over to android-root/dev before i chroot?

3. custom kernel- are you using a kernel built with the benno diffs?

thanks,

andy

OK, so I made some advances.

I've compiled a kernel for poodle, using the patches at AndroidZaurus. Need to test autobuild kernel to see if that matters or not.

I get the Cylon, but it either: continues for ever, or stops after about 5 min. I need to restart the host.

To get the Cylon I had to take the android-root image from OmegaMoon and use my kernel, with hints from AndroidZaurus. His root image will not do anything but give me the blank screen.

I'm playing with perms and options to get past this, if anyone has done this please let me know.

Just calling out to anyone that is either working on this (like me) or already has it running.....

If you have a 5600 and would try and test, reply.

If you have a 5600 and have it working already, please reply

I'm just working out all the OE/Angstrom/Bitbake stuff and trying to apply the patches that are floating around to build a kernel for Poodle that will launch the 'image' that androidzaurus posted here http://androidzaurus.seesaa.net/article/80102284.html

So far that hasn't worked on the pre-built kernels from Angstrom, and I haven't be able to build myself a kernel.

5x00 General discussions / Sl-5600. Which Os For Wpa-psk/tkip

I'll know soon- I've ordered the AMBICOM CF WIFI card, and I also just picked up a SL5600 from ebay (for $50). I'll be using the OE Angstrom 2007.12 releases, and I'll post back here in a few days (as soon as I get my card) and report how it works via WPA. I'm thinking it should work as long as I use the 2.6.23 kernel on the OE autobuilds.

When I suspend using the power button on the back of my C860, all seems to be well, but when I try to return from suspend, it brings up the screen again for about 1 second, then goes back to suspend!  After trying this a couple of times, I forced something to 'interrupt' the re-suspend process by inserting my cf wifi card as soon as I brought it back from suspend.  This worked, once.  However, now It's gone into suspend and will not come back no matter what I do.
Don't do it that way. I have a 750 and the same thing happend to me.

Suspend with the Suspend command in the Start Menu in X.

Resume with the ADDRESS button.

Works fine that way.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kathrin 1.1.0 RC2 on 750 - Tips
« on: August 18, 2004, 08:21:56 pm »
So after trying about 30 flashes, it works perfectly if you create a root of 45 megs on a 750.

Any larger and it won't work. Smaller and you won't have much fun.

If you repartition to 45 megs, then it works flawlessly, YMMV. You can repartition under the NAND Utilities Option in the new Installer.

NEW TIP: Suspend: Suspend with the "Suspend" command in the Start menu. resume with the ADDRESS key. Using the power button causes some loop that I can't stop- Z wakes and sleeps, wakes and sleeps.

One thing I noticed, regarding the reboots: if you are rebooting and have to get back to the Boot Menu, say for instance, after you've repartitioned root... you hit Enter when it asks and it starts to reboot. If you wait till the screen dims and push the OK key, you can pop right into the Boot Menu and don't have to pull the battery. This saved me a lot of time.

So I got this to work on my 750. I think what it took was to reboot twice. The first boot into Xpda just hangs-- no login. But rebooting it got me a login.

I'm going to reflash as one big root (no user) and see if it will work.

So has anyone got RC2 working on a 750? I get all the way past flashing, it boots and I see Tux, but I just get a flashing cursor that eventaully goes away. No login.

My update on this for the 750:

I tried flashing 50 and 57 megs for root partition and the installer didn't re-partiton.. it seem to just hang at the Please Wait screen.

However, after talking to some people on the Cacko channel, they suggested I try using 121 (megs) to force the installer to create one whole root partition.

This worked for me, and was what I wanted anyways, so now I'm flashing in the new rom image.

Update: Ignore what I wrote up there. Don't use 121 for a 750. I don't know what value to use, but 121 won't work. I've gone back to 50 and it works.

I did 50 with rc1 and it worked...  the install went to 37mb
I think someone tried 40 and it worked.

the install is still not the final product... but you can use 1.0.5 to get the menu to
repartition, etc.

I hear people saying "120" (121?) is good for 750.

I'm not sure, I may do 64 or 96 or 120 on my 760.

Scott
120? on c750?  I dont think that's possible.. seeing how the c700/c750 has only 64MB of space..
I thought it really has 128, and that the original sharp roms just blocked 64megs for themselves. And  Xpda dosen't do that-- so you should be able to get one giant root partition for the whole ~128 megs. At least, that's how I've read things.

I could be wrong though.

Yes- can someone pop up what the root size for a 750 should be? This is my first flash, and while I've done ipaqs before, this is the first for the Z.

I choose 57 megs and it seems to have stopped... I'm at the Please wait screen, but the cursor has stopped flashing, I'll re-do it with 50 megs just get something on there.

I read a large thread from Ashley about using his installation to get one whole root- no home-- does this RC1 use that installer?
