Download the bl script from here:

http://people.bath.ac.uk/enpsgp/Zaurus/bl/...is-extension.sh

Rename it to bl and place it in /usr/bin

Then ipaq-sleep will work correctly (though you'll need to edit the ipaq-sleep.conf file to set the max brightness to 255), and you can use it manually like so:

bl 255 (max brightness)
bl 1 (min brightness)
bl on (screen on)
bl off (screen off)

and so on,

Thanks I'll give it a try.

I've just flashed 3.5.3 onto my 860 and I'm now in the dark in terms of backlight. Nothing seems to allow me to turn up the brightness. Can this be done from the command line? The light/screen applets seem to do nothing.
Any help/advice greatfully received.

When I turn on my 860 my CF card does not appear if I do a df.
However the cf/sd monitor shows a green blob. If I touch this it goes red and then touch again and it goes green. The df command then shows the card until I next switch on when I have to repeat the process.
This is a bit annoying   . Anybody got the answer??

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc8 Install Instructions

instructions on the pdaxrom site are a bit out of date, so i updated them for an install on a c760, should be easy enough to adapt to your own model.

go through options again
chose option 1 resize root partition
enter 121
reboot
choose option 1 install new rom
the rom is flashed
reboot the z
at login prompt, log in as root
then startx
then calibrate the touchscreen
enjoy

I decided to flash RC8 over RC5 on my 860. I started to follow the instructions from Philo but seem to have missed out setting the partition size   . Anyway install seemed to work OK and the Z works OK. Should I start again and make sure that I set the partition as in the instructions or will it be OK as it is?? What is the likely impact of leaving the partition as it is?
Any comments appreciated
