Zaurus - pdaXrom / Useful Writting App: Gournal
« on: April 07, 2005, 10:24:56 am »
I would certainly be interested... sorry to see that no one else has [publicly] expressed enthusiasm.

Hi, anyone had a look at this: http://www.adebenham.com/gournal/ ?
Seems like it would be really useful on the Z. It's based on perl and gtk.

I'm keen on helping to port it across to python and gtk if anyone else is interested.
We would need gnome's canvas and python bindings.  Everything else (python, pygtk etc)
is already available as an ipk. I've had a play with a demo scribble script in pygtk and I  think
the Z is fast enough for it not to be a problem.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Lost Libaticore.so.1
« on: February 21, 2005, 03:03:36 am »
Thanks!  The aticore package worked pefectly.  Everything is back to normal.  I do not know what caused this.  Have a great day!

it most probably is in the aticore package in the current feed.

I doubt that the  problem is related to the installation of these packages though.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Lost Libaticore.so.1
« on: February 20, 2005, 12:40:36 am »
last night i installed gFTP, vdesk, and torsmo.  the latter two are applications that fine-tune the appearance of the desktop in window managers.

after installing and running the apps, everything continued to work fine.  after a while for reasons unrelated to the installations, i exited my window manager and at the console tried to restart.

at the command line, i get the error 'unable to find libaticore.so.1.'  i am not sure where this library was located, and if this issue is related to the installations of one or several of the apps above.  if someone could help me out and post libaticore.so.1, i would appreciate it.  please also tell me where to place the library.

if you've any insight into why this suddenly happened, or what i can do to avoid this in the future, please share.

thanks--

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Rc8 Install Instructions
« on: December 26, 2004, 04:18:26 pm »
I am going to update to RC-8, but you can you tell me if there is any way to avoid all my files installed on / from being erased?  I have made various changes (which I can no longer remember) to various things in /etc, .fvwm, and installed many packages on / that I'd like to avoid re-installing.

I don't think the update affects /home/root, but please tell me if I am wrong.

What do other people do?  Install to the SD card?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / ANN: Fluxbox 0.9.10
« on: November 11, 2004, 11:15:26 pm »
bastichelaar,

just curious... since you originally posted FVWM, i have been using that and find it an extremely good window manager.  very flexible and configurable.

how is fluxbox better?  after tweaking FVWM for a while, why would i (or you) switch?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OpenZaurus 3.5.1 released !!!
« on: October 06, 2004, 01:25:19 am »
Can anyone give a statement about the differences between the GPE for the 7xx/8xx series and pdaXrom?

It seems to me that a lot of the PIM apps that are or will be porrted for the GPE versions would be nice to have on pdaXrom, and many of the powerful X11 apps ported for pdaXrom would work on the GPE.  Is there a need to recompile in either direction?

In the default image for the GPE, what PIM apps are available?  I have tried to find a listing of the contents of the GPE image, but have not been successful.

Would be nice to heear your perspective on pdaXrom/GPE application interoperability.  Thanks!

Software / KDE-Pim/Pi 1.9.4 Release
« on: September 28, 2004, 02:24:36 am »
i just downloaded the package from sourceforge AND IT WORKS.  with the exception that the resource files did not get copied over.  can you please send them to me?  i know you do not support this, but sending the resource files shouldn't be such a problem if it is all that is necessary to use a great application.
thanks.

Software / KDE-Pim/Pi 1.9.4 Release
« on: September 25, 2004, 01:27:11 am »
I installed ka/pi on a pdaxrom RC/3 mahine, and have also installed all the required libs to get the application started.  However, it still complains on startup.  There are many resource, config files, and libraries missing (which i remember was not the case when i installed ka/pi on a cacko rom a few weeks ago).

I get the following error messages:

KLibLoader::library could not find library libmicrokabc_opie.so
KLibLoader::library could not find library libmicrokabc_qtopia.so
KLibLoader::library could not find library libmicrokabc_sharpdtm.so
KLibLoader::library could not find library libmicrokabc_file.so

The resource files missing are:

KRES::Factory::resource(): Fcatory creation failed for library microkabc_file No resource available!!!

KConfig: could not open file /home/root/kdepim/config/kaddressrc
KConfig: could not open file /home/root/kdepim/config/kabcrc

The application starts fine in spite of so many warnings, but due to the missing 'resource file' I cannot import contacts or create them.  For starters, could anyone supply me the config files above?  (By the way, I have checked my disk space, and I have ample room.)

Thanks.

Sharp ROMs / What would you like to see in Cacko 1.22 ROM?
« on: September 10, 2004, 07:17:55 pm »
A wonderful job with the current ROM.

In general, I would favor in the next release any improvements that improve application load-time, and this is particularly important for the PIM apps like KA/Pi, KO/Pi, etc.  In terms of the filesystem, I would opt for one that has worse compression but is faster.

On a related note, I notice that the Zaurus' display system is not as fast as [much simpler] Palms'.  Ie, menus are slower, switching tabs in Qtopia you can see the screen redraw, etc.  If this can be improved upon, great!  If there's any discussion on this that anyone knows about, please provide me the link!

Best, Sriram
