The root fs is contained in initrd.bin, the kernel in zImage. updater.sh invokes the flashing routines (or something like that).

Presumably you have flashed the root fs as you are using opie, but the zImage hasn't flashed (the design of the updater.sh allows just one or the other or both to be flashed).

Assuming you're not using an updater.sh from somewhere else (as updater.sh decides what the filenames of initrd.bin & zImage should be) then the problem must be that zimage is either mis-named, or corrupt.

were you using opie before? could it be that nothing flashed successfully (that's the only other option I can think of if everything else is right)?

I was using an upgraded Sharp ROM before and had used the same card to perform the upgrade.  I had formatted the card as FAT16 before trying to flash to OZ.

I finally got it to flash correctly.  I ended up formatting the compact flash in EXT3 format (so I could make certain zImage was coming over correctly) and re-downloaded the files.  Worked like a charm.

I am certain that the files are good, because there are lots of users who successfully installed OZ 3.5.2 on a SL5600.

A wiki is a collaborative document effort. If it's not updated, it is as well a sign for the lousy community like for us lazy developers.

The facts are straight: the OZ kernel has a date of somewhere in november or december 2004. Somehow you managed to not flash it. I have no idea how. Check your md5sums, check your extensions, check your operating system doesn't hide extensions, etc. etc. etc.

I have checked the MD5 sums, I am running linux as my OS (so no problems with hidden file extensions), and the file extensions are good.

If anyone can give me a clue as to how to really erase the ROM, I would appreciate it.  My guess is that it is not being fully erased if the kernal image from OZ is good.

Are you sure you also flashed the OZ kernel? What is uname -a telling?

uname-a gives:

I have tried flashing back to the Sharp Rom without any  luck as well.

I downloaded the files from OpenZaurus.org.  How can I be certain of the kernel version?  I am not certain the ROM is being flashed correctly, though it does say that it has erased the ROM.   I made certain that zImage had the capital "I" (no extension), and I renamed the Opie file to initrd.bin as instructed.  Mikel, you might want to make certain that the files are good before sighing too much, or at least give some further indication as to how to make certain the ROM was actually erased and flashed and what the kernel name should be (documenting it would probably be a good thing as well).

I followed both the instructions on both OpenZaurus, and on the OpenEmbedded Wiki, thought it looks like neither has been updated for quite some time.  If it weren't for the forums here, I would not have known to change the Opie or GPE file to initrd.bin.

I have flashed my SL5600 with Poodle (OZ 3.5.2) per the instructions using Opie. While the OS runs, my networking does not.  No network cards are detected (using DLink DCF-660W), and no where in any netowrk setting can I set an SSID.  My SD card is recognized, but my compact flash card (Viking 512MB) is not, even though I used it to flash the ROM.

I have run original Sharp ROM without any problems but thought I would finally try OZ since they seemed to have it working for the 5600.

Any, all help would be appreciated.
