Sharp ROMs / Japanese Kernel For Cacko Rom 1.22

Both of the options that you would use here are the same as on a Linux desktop.

For the symlink (symbolic link) use konsole, and the command to create the symbolic link to a tmp directory on your sd card:

ln -s /mnt/card/tmp /home/tmp

The first path is the source directory that you want to link to, and the second path is the name of the destination directory that will point to the source.  Make sure that you have the source directory on your sd card.

In order to change your /etc/ipkg.conf, use a text editor and change the path to one that's on your sd card.

This topic was posed incorrectly in Cxx0 Hardware.  Hopefully you'll get a better response in the correct forum, 5x00 Hardware

There's an older binary available here if you want to just give it a try.
Thanks, but the download link on that page is broken.

Frank.
Sorry about that, I didn't realize that the package link was broken.  Here's a link that I just tried, and does work

If anyone has a fully charged battery in their PDA could you do a test to see how much of the battery is used in 20 minutes or longer. Then I can work out if it's good enough for what I want.

I don't have a C3000, but unless Sharp has vastly improved their battery manager, running it for 20 minutes won't tell you much.  From what i recall from readint the forums, at least on the c860, the battery readings are only around 25, 50, 75, 100 percent.

Check in the C3000 forums and see if anyone's posted the information there.  You might also get more responses to your hardware specific question in those forums

General Discussion / Open An Ipk File In Windows Xp To Test It

Although I took an architecture class last year, the details are all fuzzy now

I googled and found this article about RISC vs CISC.  Main conclusion of the article is that the speed of the machine doesn't really depend on the architecture, but the performance improvements in RISC systems now is dependent on the hardware supporting the processor (cache, registers, pipelining, etc).

General Discussion / How can I make use of ROMS and keep the jap. fonts
« on: November 28, 2004, 11:21:18 pm »
There was a thread on this topic a while back, found using the search. link here

The procedure outlined there should work, but from what I've heard (I've never used Cacko) the best Japanese support is to stick with the original Sharp ROM.

As it says on the Kanji Gold webpage, it is an MS Windows program.  You will not be able to get this running on the Zaurus, and I don't think the source files are available.  Sorry!

Sorry to drag this up from the depths of the old news, but this is sort of related, and I partially agree with the original post.  In my short time that I've been reading the forums I've noticed a few things that bother me.

First, the number of forums is almost overwhelming.  I found that when I first started reading, and thought about posting, there were so many different forums, that I was't sure where my issue belonged.  I'm not sure if there's a solution for this, and I'll give it some more thought, but I just wanted to express my initial impression.  Maybe it's just the newbie in me not knowing where the divisions lie

The other thing is that there are two general discussion forums.  Granted, one forum is for guests and the other for registerd users, but is it necessary to have both?  Reasoning for my question is that I've noticed duplicate threads in each of the forums.  In particular, recently I've seen threads in each of the forums for "end of Zaurus in NA" and "Newest Zaurus model".  Personally, I'm interested in following the information, so I read both threads, but it gets confusing after a while as to what information was posted where.

One solution to this would be to merge the two general discussions into one forum, and have guest able to post in there.

The other solution would also be a merge of forums, but only allow registered people to post.  I understand wanting to keep the forums as open as possible, so allowing guests to post is good, but registration doesn't cost anything, and it would make the fourms a bit tidier.  Are there a lot of guests who post?  Would it be beneficial to switch ZUG over to registered posters only?
