C1000/3x00 General discussions / Unable To Mount Sd Card
« on: July 07, 2006, 08:12:20 pm »
By the lack of responses, I take it that there is nobody that has any other suggestions on getting this working.  At this point, I'm thinking it's hardware failure.  Does anyone have any resources for 3100 parts?

nand restore

What do you mean by that?

The 2GB is PNY, and the 256MB is Kingston.  Others that I've tried are Centon and Sandisk.

OK, I've tried several SD cards, that have never seen a Zaurus, and still nothing.  I'm thinking it's not the cards.  Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
Al

Yes, they both work in 3 different card readers on 3 different PCs.  The 256MB works fine in a camera and a 5600.  I have tried reformatting the 2GB card.

Before I installed that driver, I tried inserting a 256MB card.  Nothing.  I then installed that driver.  Nothing with both the 256MB card and the 2GB card.

I purchased my C3100 a few months back and have been very please with it      Until recently that is.  Shortly after purchasing it, I flashed it with the Cacko-Lite ROM, and have slowly been adding programs.  I purchased a 2GB SD card mid May, and installed the tetsu driver for large SD card support.  Everything worked fine for over a month.  About a week ago I noticed that the SD card wasn't mounted, so popped it out and put it back in again.  Nothing.  I tried a 256MB card.  Nothing.  Thought it might have to do with the tetsu driver, so uninstalled that.  Nothing.  Reinstalled the tetsu driver.  Nothing.  I just flashed the ROM, so now I'm back to the basic Cacko-Lite.  Still no SD card.  When trying to mount it manually through the Konsole, it gives me the error "mount: Mounting /dev/mmcda1 on /mnt/card failed: No such device"

Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on here?  Any thoughts, ideas, help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Al

Sharp ROMs / Watapon ROM

Chaos,

I've been using your 1.4.1 ROM for a few months now, and am looking forward to trying the next version 1.6.  I've read talk in this post about the KDE PIM.  Are you putting this in the next ROM instead of the Sharp PIMs?  I've been using them since I got my Zaurus back in September, and think this would be a great addition to your ROM.  Another thing I just noticed is that the player does not play OGG files.  I have just started ripping my CDs to my MythTV box.  After doing quite a bit of research, I decided that the OGG format would work best for me at home.  Would it be possible for you to include this capability in your next ROM?  Or at least let me know how to add this capability to the included player or leave the player out, so we can choose the player that works best for each of us.

Keep up the good work!!
Thanks,
Al

I found the problem that causes KaPi most likely to crash. The reason is that during
import/sync of external data (like from SharpDTM),
KA/Pi transfers/translates certain characters not correctly.
Please open your addressbook file with an ascii editor and search for the character combination
^M\n

whereas ^M is one carriagereturn (0x0d) character and \n are two ascii characters.
Mostlikely this happens in the NOTES or the ADR entry.
If you remove the ^M character from the spots, you should be able to load the file again.

We are still trying to figure out if this is a problem with the source data when syncing the data into Ka/Pi the first time. (Question: How did you get the data into Ka/Pi when you saw this error. Syncing from DTM?)

Let me know if this workaround helped you.
Ulf
Ulf, That did it!

It's a bit hard to get a ^M into most editors since they confuse it with the Enter key, so just for the record, this is what I did in the command line:

$ cd kdepim/apps/kabc
$ mv std.vcf std.vcf.old
$ tr -d '\r' < std.vcf.old > std.vcf

'tr' is a standard Unix tool that translates a character into another, with the -d option it deletes all occurrences of the given character. \r is the way to tell it to use ^M as a character.

And yes, I did get the data originally with DTM sync and I have my original DTM file, if you need me to do some testing.
Hello everyone,

I just ran into this same problem importing from SharpDTM after importing to there from Outlook.  I am running Watapon's ROM on a 5600.  This is one of the things I love about the Linux/Zaurus communities.  Whenever I run into a problem, I just hop on the forums and somebody has a fix or solution.  A special thanks to mcamou for the command line fix.  I had opened up the file in a text editor and did a search for ^M with no luck.  Running your commands cleaned it up and I can now open KA/Pi.  And with Unison, I am now able to "sync" with my desktop version of KAddressbook.

As I said earlier, if KDE PIM/Pi released another version with a Mail client I'd be willing to give it a go as the default PIM... Unfortunately the whole KDE PIM/Pi set is over 8 MB large. This leaves me with a dilemma. Take out other things to IPKs to make room for PIM/Pi as the default, make both PIM/Pi and the Sharp PIMs as options in IPKs, or stick to the Sharp PIMs until KDE PIM/Pi gets smaller (more around the 3-4 MB range -- about what the Sharp ones are).

Any opinions on this?

Edit: Well, I tried out KDE PIM/Pi, and it's better than the Sharp PIMs... Unfortunately, I've heard it has issues with, especially, contact receiving. So I'm going to stick to the Sharp PIMs for now, being smaller. Maybe once KDE PIM/Pi hits version 2.0.0 I'll take another look.

I have taken a look at the KDE PIM/Pi and like them.  I wouldn't suggest making them the default until they get the contact receiving working, but would like to see the Sharp PIMs taken out so we could only install the PIM that we prefer.  I have also look at the Opie PIMs, and like them considerably more than the Sharp PIMs.  The problem with the Opie addressbook is when you install it over the Sharp addressbook it dies when you try to access the owner information.

I just got my Z a week ago and I have tried a half a dozen ROMs.  Giving each of them a good work out before moving on.  OZ is still to unstable, and there are features there that I don't care for.  Like I said earlier, I really like the Opie PIMs, and they don't have that issue on OZ.  It finally came down to Watapon and Zynergy.  I gave them each a more thorough look, and decided that Watapon would work better for me.

The one issue that I had with all the ROMs, except tkcROM, is that they had the PIMs installed already.  I would love to see that option open up, so as to choose the one that works best for me.

Thanks for all the work on this ROM.  That's what I love about the Z, is the options available to you.
