Software / Pi-sync For Fedora 4?

Hi there!

I have tried to compile Pi-Sync on my Fedora Core 4 laptop and then install it, but I have been unsuccessful. Has anybody managed to create a valid and working RPM for Fedora 4?

If so, it would be very helpful to describe the process.

Thanks in advance,

Peter

This is the furthest I have got. Maybe someone can develop from here on. I hope someone can help me. I attach here the spec file modified to compile in my Fedora 4 laptop. And it compiles. The rpm generated file even seems to install. But then I have no clue about where should I look after the installed program nor how to launch it.

Any insight is very welcome.

Cheers, Peter.

File: kdepim_rpm.spec
Code: [Select]
Summary: A collection of PIM programs
Name: KDE-Pim-Pi
Version: 2.2.5
Release: fc4
License:GPL
Group: Applications/Productivity/Pim
Source:http://sourceforge.net/projects/kdepimpi/
URL:http://sourceforge.net/projects/kdepimpi/
Packager: zautrix

%description
This package contains the platform-independent PIM programs from
www.pi-sync.info, compiled for Fedora Core 4:
KTimeTacker/Pi
KPhone/Pi
KAddressbook/Pi
KOrganizer/Pi
PasswordManager/Pi
KOPieMail/Pi

These applications do not need anything from the KDE-desktop
at all to run on Linux. However, there is a dependency from
two KDE libs, because a small command line program is included
to make it possible to sync with the KDE-desktop applications.

These applications are independent from the KDE-desktop
environment. That means, nothing of your existing
KDE-desktop setup will be changed, or any data
(calendar-addressbook) used by the KDE-desktop
applications will be changed or accessed.
These applications stores their data and config in
$HOME/kdepim/
However, because the same file format is used,
an easy exchange of data with the KDE-desktop
is possible.
A small command line program is included
to make it possible to sync with the KDE-desktop applications.
You do not need to call this program from the commandline,
it is called from the KDE-Pim/Pi apps when you choose there:
Sync with KDE_Desktop.
If something is going wrong, please start the
KDE-Pim/Pi program itself from the console to get detailed output.

After installation, you should have a
PIM-pi
folder in your KDE start menu, where you can
start the applications from.

These programs makes it possible to sync your Zaurus easily
(with the KDE-Pim/Pi programs running on the Zaurus)
with the KDE-desktop calendar/addressbook data.
If you want to use that, you have to update your
KDE-desktop to version 3.3.0 or higher.
SuSE 9.2 contains KDE 3.3.0 such that no update is needed.
Actually - after the (non difficult) configuration is set up -
with two mouseklicks on the Zaurus,
the Zaurus syncs with the corresponding  KDE-Pim/Pi
program on the Linux Desktop which syncs automatically
with the KDE-desktop data.

If you want to use the KDE-desktop calendar/addressbook applications,
just install these apps in this package and use them as a syncing tool for the
Zaurus <-> KDE-desktop sync.
The sync requires a network connection from your Zaurus to
the PC. A detailed Sync HowTo is available in the
Help menu of the applications.

These applications makes it also possible, that you can sync
(or just export the data to) your mobile phone with your
data of the KDE-desktop calendar/addressbook applications.
This is tested and working for Nokia mobile phones,
it may work with others as well.
(More info about that: -> Sync HowTo)

NOTE:
When using SuSE 9.1 you have to update your KDE to 3.3.x
and you have to make an online update in SuSE 9.1 to make it
possible to get the infrared connection working, such that
you can sync your (Nokia) mobile phone via infrared.

I have tried all your suggestions. And nothing occurs. I am just giving up.

Thanks all who gave a hint. In fact I must say that I never expected my Zaurus to last that much. I dropped it into salt water 2 years ago. I managed to resurrect it after 2 days of intensive cares wiping out all the salt. It has lasted since then although I never managed to get the speaker work again.

So don't take the impression that the Zaurus is not a robust PDA. On the contrary, I really feel it is an excellent device that withstands heavy duty use.

If anyone has a brilliant idea, or is willing to buy some parts, just let me know.

Well, today I bought a cheap tester to test the battery. The tester reads 3.79 V, so the battery is in perfect working condition. Does anyone get a clue why the Zaurus appears dead? (By the way, I also checked the internal tiny battery).

I thought I had this problem one time.  It turned out that I had not slid the battery lock all the way over.  It acted completely dead.  Once I clicked it into place, it worked fine.

I hope your problem is this simple.

I wish you were right, but it is not that. Does anybody know whether the zaurus gets its power always from the battery even when plugged to AC current? If so, might it be a problem of the battery?

Thanks again for your support!

Hi all!

I had my Zaurus in my pocket and when I pulled it out, it didn't turn on. When I got home I tried to recharge it, to see if it was a problem with the batteries, but the battery led doesn't light up either. I left it for a few hours and nothing.

I have tried to emulate the contact of the sliding cover to see if there was a contact problem with the cancel button., and still no results.

I really need to recover all my data from the internal flash.

The Zaurus is 3 years old now.

Any ideas on how to power it up?

Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / Lost all Address Book Data

Done!

After 3 days reding all my contact data, I have it all back into my Zaurus. Phew!

I have to commnet though that I discovered as I read the above mentioned file, that many of the contacts had multiple entries showing different information. This corresponds to address changes, phone changes etc.

I think this is a bug, because in the end it reflects the fact that the Zaurus seem to be storing old information for no special reason.

Can somebody confirm this?

Thanks everybody for this great forum!!

All right,

I managed to repair the file using some repair software.

I searched through the remaining files and finally found something interesting in /home/zaurus/applications/dtm/sladrs.box

But the file is less than readable. This file contains the data from all my contacts in the addressbook.

There is a companion file named sladrs.idx

I tried to copy both files into a healthy Zaurus backup file to see if that way I could read the data by restoring the modified backup into the Zaurus, but it didn't work.

So my only hope is to roll up my sleeves and dive into that messy file and recover my data contact by contact.

Wish me luck!

MMM

Thanks, but that didn't help. The problem doesn't seem to be the format of the file, but to recover corrupt data in it.

Anyone has a clue on how to do it?

Thanks again for the support.

Hi people of good will.

Here is the situation.

I backed up my data as I regularly do. Shortly after, the Zaurus stalled and needed to power off with the replace battery button and reset.

Then I proceeded to restore the data from my SD card but it hangs at 100% completion.

I have checked everything: upgraded from Sharp ROM 3.10 to 3.13. Copied the files from SD to CF. Tried to open the backed up file in Windows, etc.

My conclusion is that the backup file is corrupted and I have no other. I desperately need the Addressbook Data. Don't care that much about other files.

When I browse the backup file on Windows it appears to hold 11.3 MB worth of data, but once I open the file with WinRAR it displays files for just 144 KB.

The data must be in there, but I just can't reach it. Can somebody tell me how to get it? I don't care about the format, even if it is a plain text file.

Thanks to the community in advance.
