Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Scummvm so close yet so far
« on: October 30, 2004, 01:38:51 pm »
Feels kind of random, but it will work now most of the time and it is very cool. Now maybe these many years later I'll beat Zak McKracken.

Just wanted to update the post for people searching in the future.

blogic was cool enough to send me the answer,

If you goto the Settings->Apperance->Advanced Tab you can set the screen to rotate the other way. Of course I did that and ttarted scumm and now the screen is screwed up, how to describe it, it looks like it's repeating through a screendoor. A common graphic glitch.

I switched back in the settings with no luck

I found somewhere in the documentation that Scummvm will run on a 5500 with 3.5.1 with the -g normal parameter. But it starts up rotated 180 degrees from where it should be so the pointer is totally off. Up is down, left is right. I haven't come across a fix for this, anyone else seen one?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Help me get started cross-compiling for OZ
« on: October 26, 2004, 05:25:00 pm »
Not sure if this will help but that error is the same one I get with qpdf on 3.5.1. So perhaps your cross-compiling environment needs some updating.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / ScummVM on OZ 3.5.1 husky?

Would that fix the problem SDL has when using scumm on OZ  on a 5500?

I have qpdf2 installed on OZ/GPE and got all the libs it needed installed finally, but it barfed out on a undefined symbol. Is this the error that prevents it from running on OZ?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Showstoppers 3.5.1 (my opinion)

I have a similar problem with my Wireless NIC. I have to start the Z up without the card in, plug it in, wait for it to find my AP, but then run udhcp manually. Even then it's kind of a crapshoot as to whether it picks up an IP.

Is this the same problem otzenpunk was having?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Reversing the mess that opie-aqpkg has made ....
« on: October 25, 2004, 09:23:38 am »
Just thought I'd chime in, cause I did something similar. Accidently installed something to root and it ate up all the space so statuses can't be written making it impossible to remove.

Of course trying to go through and find what was installed the next day is too time consuming so I'm just going to reflash.

I guess as a linux geek I enjoy this painful process. One of the reasons why I got a 5500 was principally to play around.

After a week of the Z I gotta say OZ 3.5.1 is the fastest ROM by far, very snappy and GPE is great as well.

*forgive all ignorance beforehand please*

Does qpdf just need to be recompiled and ipkg'd for OZ 3.5.1? It's the one reason I'm using Cacko still. OZ is amazingly fast but a PDF reader is a killer app.

Figured I should post this here rather than a new thread.

I've been getting lockups on 3.5.1 where the screen goes to what can be described as a TV with no reception. (white noise)

A reboot seems to fix it but I have yet to nail down the exact reason why it happens.

Which leads into, where would be the best place to post a bug if I can find a reproducable one.

And lastly I have a Pretec wireless card, and to get it to connect to a AP I have to boot up without it in, put it in, then manually run udhcp. Is there something I'm missing, if I don't do it this way the Network settings will not connect properly to the AP.

These things are a lot of fun I must say. Can't wait to work out the kinks.

General Discussion / Software? GPS, OPIE, PDAX?
« on: October 10, 2004, 11:48:49 pm »
Thanks for all the replies, clears up a lot for me. I now have a much better grasp on things. I'll probably end up playing with all of them, but will start with OZ/OPIE. I think GPE might be more what I'm looking for though.

I figure if I put a decent amount of time into a 5500 I'll pick up a 760 or the like later on.

Pretty sych'd about it either way.

Hey while I'm eagerly waiting for my first 5500 to arrive I've been enjoying thinking of ways to use my Z. I've kind of gotten myself confused though and sometimes these answers are right in front of you but you don't see them so I'm grateful for all help.

Firstly if I can get an opinion which environment would you guys/gals suggest most closely resembles a linux desktop. I can see myself wanting to set up some automated tasks (downloading new site info by wget, using a cron script) but I'm not sure what would allow me to do that.

Also is pdaXrom just for the higher end Z's? I couldn't find a definitive list of supported devices. I only ask because it seems like that might be the best environment on a Z

And sorry if I have these mixed up, Cacko & OpenZaurus are like BIOS's? And then OPIE & GPE run on top? Kismet only runs on pdaXrom?

Anyway maybe if I collect enough info I can help out other newbies.

Looking forward to hacking around with my Z.
