Security and Networking / Network Sync (AGAIN)
« on: November 11, 2004, 10:14:05 am »
Craig,

Thanks for saving my time.

The source code from trolltech is also no help as I searched for qtsamba and samba and there is no such instance found neither in the file names nor in the contents. Very surprising!

Yes, back to the CLEAN drawing board!

Thanks

Craig,

Thanks for giving ideas. Now, how do I pull qsamba from the old rom? I had managed to screw up in last ROM flashing  and made my Z a brick so I do not want to re-flash.

If there is a way to pullout qsamba without re-flashing, please let me know.

Thanks a million!

Craig,

I tried the trick by putting eth0 in place of usbd0 in qtsamba. it still has same problem - i.e. "connection aborted". It works with the Zaurus in the USB cradle so I would assume we need to change the code somewhere else as well. I am running it on Sl5500.

I am trying to figure out how to change eth0 to wlan0.

Thanks a lot for your idea. It is a great one!

Craig,

Thanks a lot for chaning the permission but it is having problem in referencing a function - qws_server_display_spec. Which version of Qtopia did you change? I just downloaded Qtopia 3.3 from trolltech.com. Although I am currently running version 1.5.4.

I will try myself to see whether I can change just qtsamba and still make it work with 1.5.4.

Meanwhile, It will be great if you can point me to how to resolve the symbol and change the interface to "eth0" instead of "wlan0" because when I do ifconfig the interface is showing as eth0.

Thanks a lot for your help.

cvmiller,

I could not download your modified qtsamba. It says "you do not have permission to access qtsamba".

Could you please change the permisions so that I can download it?

Thanks for making the effort. Where can I get free source code for qtsmaba?

cvmiller,

Thanks for your reply. I already have samba working the way you describe. My problem is specific to synchronization.

And I am running my wireless card in ad-hoc mode so no worries about using the ip address .1 and preventing somebdy else to get into the network.

skoorb,

Are you answering my question? I forgot to mention that it works when I initiate the synchronization from PC.

With this method (by having network and usb at the same ip address) has anybody been able to initiate synching from Z? In my case it works as long as it is in the USB cradle although the traffic is still going on wi-fi, I guess. But  after I take it out of USB I can NOT connect to PC for synchronization, if I initiate it from Z. It says "conection aborted".

I think qtsamba (PCLink) has been hardcoded to use usb interface. Is there a way to fool qtsamba so that it thinks usb interface is up but actually it is not?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Qt/Qtopia / qtsamba without usb
« on: November 09, 2004, 11:13:14 am »
Hi,

I am trying to sync from Z (sl-5500) to PC via wi-fi. I have network connectivity and can run all other applications but qtsamba cannot make a connection to PC if usb interface is not connected. Initiating sync from PC works fine without usb.

Is there a way to get around this? I want to workaround, somehow, so that qtsamba thinks usb interface is enabled/connected even if it is not.

I am running Sharp ROM version 3.13 and Qtopia for Embedix version 1.5.4.

Thanks a lot in advance for any guidance.

5x00 General discussions / synching with wi-fi from Z to PC
« on: November 08, 2004, 11:13:47 am »
I have a SL-5500 working wirelessly(wi-fi) fine for all the applications except when I try to sync FROM the Z to PC it says "connection aborted". Synching wirelessly from PC to Z works fine! I am using sharp 3.1 ROM and I guess qtsamba software is hardcoded to use usb interface instead of an IP address.

Is there any other tool/software available to be able to synch wirelessly from Z to PC?

Thanks a lot in advance for any guidance.

General Discussion / SL-5500 bricked:-(
« on: October 08, 2004, 12:45:22 pm »
I left the Z without AC power and battery for 24 hours and tried to reflash again but NO LUCK yet:-(. No orange light light ,, no response at all.

I am trying to us the Sharp ROM Ospack on a 256 MB CF card. The card format is FAT16.

The Sharp support guy says he will charge me $50 for the evaluation to judge what is wrong with the Z. He suggested that most probably they will have to clean the memory.  I will keep the battery out for some more time and see whether that helps.

saakmotu, how is you effort for recovering your 5000d going? Any succes? Please share if you have found a new trick!

Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your reply, saakmotu. Best wishes or your zaurus!!

I have two questions:

1. How do I drain the battery to a level that when I plug in AC adapter can start charging again?

2. Should it show orange light even if it has corrupted ROM at the moment, if the plug in AC adapater (assuming battery is not full?

Thanks

General Discussion / SL-5500 bricked:-(
« on: October 06, 2004, 12:17:07 pm »
Hi all,

I  purchased a SL5500 a week back and it had the tkc rom. Since I could not use Intellisync/Qtopia to load applications, I decided to update it with Sharp ROM. The things seemed to go well until both green and orange lights turned off and never came back. I had taken all the precaustions - have the AC power connected etc.

I have tried to re-flash it several  times but no avail. No light comes on. I have tried other stuff mentioned on this board - keeping the battery out and reflash it with the AC connected only. Pressing full reset button for 15-20 seconds etc etc.. I have tested the AC adapter output and the battery and both are giving good reading on voltage.

Should'nt the orange light come on whenever AC power is connected even if the ROM is not working?

Please help!! I need more ideas on how to bring my Zaurus to life.

Thanks a million  in advance.
