5x00 General discussions / How to waste time in an Airport with my Z??
« on: April 20, 2004, 10:49:54 pm »
Nothing new, but IMHO Eligo is excellent for wasting time  It\'s a very nice Lines-kind of game, with sound, music, neat graphics and a very much playable demo.
But for shorter periods of time, I\'d just spend it reorganizing all my PIM data, just for fun...

The packages are somewhat outdated, I guess, but they still work...

General Discussion / Can you flash Wince on Zaurus
« on: February 10, 2004, 09:33:06 pm »
A wince wine-like emulator for the zaurus seems much more likely to come out for the Z to me  (and IMHO would be just as much of a waste of time)
Btw, wasn\'t Zaurus intended for Linux-unfamiliar users in the first place? Partly, at least, with all those Intellisyncs and the likes...Oh, and maybe your brother will actually like Strategic Assault(http://killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=14) as a compensation?

General Discussion / Lets go to 2.6 ;)

How low must it be to affect performance? I have seen a kernel 2.6 on my SIMpad (64MB Ram) performing much better than kernel 2.4 on the same device.
Although just x86, I have used 2.6.0 on a 120MHz/48M, SCSI drives and it did work quite a bit faster(I mean, Gnome/KDE without much trouble

General Discussion / What do you use your Zaurus for?
« on: February 07, 2004, 02:33:23 pm »
I use my SL5500 for:
1. Plotting/calculations of sorts(gnuplot).
2. Unit coversions(yeah, I happen to need that quite often, as I never remember any of those myself :)(zuc)
3. PIM(obviously)(mostly todolist). And unlike so many people I\'ve heard, I\'m quite satisfied with it(in Opie at least).
4. Playing oggs/mp3s - streaming as well as just stored somewhere.(mplayer)
5. Browsing - mostly at night :), with wifi(Symbol) and Opera.
6. Watching short movies/clips/etc.(mplayer)
7. Alarm clock, too - but not so often :) The default sound just doesn\'t wake me up sometimes :).
8. Making a palm owner jealous :) Making the same owner double jealous with the thumbpad uncovered ]:-)
9. Last, but not least - playing some games(eligo, sfcave, etc).

That\'s all I can think of so far...But in any case, I do use it very often and almost as laptop replacement(which I don\'t have mostly because of size issues - I can\'t really put it in my pocket, and I will not always have a bag of any kind...)

P.S. As far as password storing - the Zaurus is quite useful for that, but now I\'m keeping most of mine in kdewallet, where I actually need them.

You\'ll be amazed at how fast you can type!

I am quite amazed at how fast I can type even on my 5500(especially while walking down the stairs  ).
I don\'t have a c7xx, sorry (I thought of buying c760 instead of 5500, but the price was just a little too high to feel comfortable; ever since the appearance of Cacko/X11 I\'m starting to regret it  ), but felt like making a useless comment to praise the thumbpads on all Zaurii anyways...
