Mac Issues / Ann: Zmacsync-1.5 Available
« on: January 07, 2005, 03:17:31 pm »
Hi,
Is there anyway to measure the status of the first synch... to see if it is still working or if it is hung? I've run the sync and it is still chugging away... 20 minutes later. I'm just about ready to kill it and try again... but if it is halfway through then I would end up with lots of duplicates!

Anyway, I know the connection hasn't died because I can still ssh into my Zaurus. I can even see the dtm2xml command, I think! I just don't know how to see if it is hung or if it is still communicating.

I did a big kill and database reset on my Zaurus before running the synch.

Software / I can't install most ipk files...
« on: October 18, 2004, 02:11:49 pm »
Aha!
Removing the .tar file on my PC solved part of the problem. Now I can install any .ipk file.

The problem continues that many programs simply won't run. There is no error or message that I am out of memory or anything like that... the program just never launches.

Examples:

shhtetris
toppler
infoNES

Are these programs that are too demanding for my Zaurus 5500?

Some files are just .ipk, but some are .tar files, or .zip files. Yes, I uncompress those first and I get the .ipk files OR folders, sometimes.

How do I get to a command prompt on my Zaurus? I don't have a terminal program or anything like that. Where is it hiding?

General Discussion / Can't install software, or it doesn't work

Hello,
I love my Zaurus as a text file reader/editor, addressbook, and calendar... but I'm having trouble installing and running *any* other software on my SL-5500.

I download the file to my computer, and when I unstuff it the "ipk" file shows up as a folder. I copy it over to my Zaurus, and it is still a folder, and the "Install/Uninstall" program does not recognize it.

SOME programs unstuff as a file instead of a folder, and I am then able to install them.

BUT, 90% of those programs refuse to launch or crash immediately after launching. When I click on them they show the little activation lines around the application, and then they just hang.

I've about a dozen games listed at the zaurus software index, for instance... only "Dragon Bane 2" seems to run. I can't get a pacman or tetris clone or anything like that to work.

Humorously, the one application I got to work well was Ko/Pi organizer. Which is massive and very demanding compared to the silly games I'm trying.

Any help or suggestions would be helpful. My Zaurus 5500 has:
"Qtopia for Embedix Plus PDA, version 1.5.4"
"Linux Kernel Version 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix"
"ROM Version: 3.10"
