For Sale / Wanted / Wtb: Sl-c760 Or Sl-c860
« on: September 19, 2007, 08:54:41 pm »
Hello all,

I'm looking to buy one of the above used and in good condition. I don't really want to pay more than $225-$250 if I can help it.

I figure I'd like to go with the C760 or C860 because they seem to have pretty good specs and the Microdrive isn't important to me, although I wouldn't object if I could get a C1000 for a good price.

Does anyone have one for sale, or if not, could someone point me towards a site that sells them? I know about Conics and PriceJapan, but the former is a little more than I'd like to pay and the latter only has the C3200 now, not to mention that the idea of it having to go through customs scares me. Are there any other sites worth noting?

I'm in Massachusetts, by the way. Thanks!

General Discussion / New Linux Clamshell Device?
« on: October 03, 2005, 12:18:21 pm »
I hate to reply to such an old thread, but I figured it would be preferable to starting a new one about the exact same topic.

I actually went through the effort of e-mailing Unication regarding the price of a unit. They stated the following:

Quote
I can offer a sample price $299 to you for the Magpie PDA. Our suggest retail price will be target on $500. Please check if the features and specifications are that you are looking for (www.uni.com.tw ). I would also like to inform you that the PDA is currently under engineer run. The schedule to mass produce this product is in 2 months.

They responded quite quickly (next business day); I was fairly impressed. The pricing makes me think a bit, however; $299 is reasonable, $500 is not. I like the feature set (FM transmitter, for one), though the screen isn't the best. The processor makes me worry a bit, as well. I'll stay in touch with them and see what else I can find out (i.e. how fast they could get me one).

Edit: I have found out some more information about the device and its software. It uses Qtopia 1.6, customized by Unication in various ways to add functionality and, obviously, their branding. As far as Zaurus compatibility goes, I am not sure; I would have to get my hands on a device to try it. I plan on contacting them further to see if I could get a handful of units to distribute for a fair price; I'm sure that, given the right price, some visitors of this forum would be interested.

6000 - Tosa / battery life & flying?
« on: November 21, 2004, 03:35:37 pm »
Once I took my SL-6000 out of my pocket to find that it said low battery, despite the fact that I hadn't used it much at all. After restarting it, it said the battery was full again. It's a bit buggy.

If I recall correctly, I used the latest IPK and demo wad of Doom from www.gnurou.com.

6000 - Tosa / Best SDL for SL6000L?
« on: November 03, 2004, 08:51:58 pm »
I was able to run Exult at 240x320 magnified; I had rotation problems with 320x240, but as guylhem said, those can be overridden. All I had to do was change the Exult configuration file to 320 width 240 height, and click/hold the desktop icon to set the magnification.

The main problem with the externe.net libsdl was that about 5-10 seconds after booting any SDL program magnified was that the taskbar at the bottom began flashing, and the game window lost focus. The Zports SDL did not do this. I had to tap Cancel repeatedly to regain focus; otherwise, I would have to reset the PDA.

The Zports SDL did not have this problem; however, it did not allow me to use the application buttons. If I tried to use one, it would open the program associated with that button, causing the game to lose focus and often causing a soft reset to be necessary.

What Snes9x build did you use, guylhem?, All versions I tried resulted in sound with no picture, despite the settings. I tried your configuration too; still no dice.

I also tried prboom (Doom). With it, I had the rotation problem (which can be fixed), and in magnified mode, I also had the same taskbar focus problem as with Exult.

Overall, your libSDL worked the best out of any, guylhem. I'm not sure if my problem is common to all SL-6000Ls or not. I'm using the stock Sharp ROM.

Thanks for offering support.

Exult works in 320x240 (have to edit its config file, and if you want, tell the program to run in a magnified screen), but if it's in a magnified screen, it runs upsidedown for me. Also, a few seconds after it magifies, the program loses focus and I have to repeatedly hit cancel to get it back. This is with the Externe lib, by the way.

I've been using the Zports lib; however, it does not allow me to use the App buttons. Still, it works better for me than the Externe one.

General Discussion / Sync problem
« on: November 01, 2004, 11:08:49 pm »
Didn't find anything with a search, but I have a problem that's probably fairly simple. I have a Zaurus SL-6000L. When I sync through Qtopia Desktop, it works fine. However, initiating a sync through the sync button on the cradle or through the Zaurus software doesn't work at all, it just hangs. Any suggestion?

Works fine with Firefox for me, though I'm in Windoze.

Since the topic's been brought up, it'd be nice if you could search for two words without them being a phrase. If there's a way to do this, my apologies for missing it.

Can't see it, honestly. Maybe my screen protector's blocking things.

Software / HancomWord annoyance
« on: October 30, 2004, 01:41:25 pm »
Well, maybe I'm missing something, but does HancomWord refuse to allow me to choose what directory I save in? I'm using HancomWord 1.6.0 on a Zaurus SL-6000L. When I choose Save As, it only allows me the choice of Internal Memory or SD Card. Choosing one, it just makes a folder by itself named for the format I saved the file in. Now, this wouldn't be too annoying if it weren't for the fact that when opening a file, it doesn't even start in the folder I last saved in.

Any solution? Or maybe a good alternative to HancomWord? I can't justify paying $49.95 for Textmaker (since the beta expires November 15th). This quirk makes Hancom incredibly unintuitive. Otherwise, it works fine for me. Thanks in advance.

If I'm not mistaken, that company made (and still makes?) Palm rip-offs with embedded Linux; however, I'm fairly sure that user support for them is nil.

Got mine a few days ago. One word to describe it: sweet. I feel right at home with the Linux stuff.
