Linux Issues / Qtopia Desktop Issue
« on: July 04, 2005, 02:47:18 pm »
And finally, in case anyone else has this problem, you do have to set the timezone to "None".  In my case this involves quitting the datebook and then editing the datebook.xml file by hand at a later date.  Horrid eh?

General Discussion / What Is The Most Reliable Rom?
« on: June 30, 2005, 10:26:12 am »
I think they're all reasonably stable once you learn what the rough edges are.  Out of the box, the Sharp roms and Cacko have the least edges.  They're really high quality stable roms, ideal for business apps.

I'm running Hentges 3.5.3 with a kernel update now.  Now that I've figured out the rough edges (and admittedly there aren't many now that I have the new kernel), I'm a much happier Z user.  In fact, I sync with my Linux desktop at work and Mac Mini at home.

There is OZ for the C1k available, but personally, I'd be waiting until at least a 2nd version was available.

Linux Issues / Qtopia Desktop Issue

Add this to the wierd column.... if I set the timezone on the appointments to "None" rather than "Montreal", everything seems to be cool.  Of course, I don't know if the alarms will go off yet.

Linux Issues / Qtopia Desktop Issue
« on: June 30, 2005, 07:54:20 am »
I originally posted this in another forum with no response.  Perhaps this is a better place.
---

Alright, after reporting it a few times, I've figured out the problem.... But first, my setup.

I'm running Hentges 3.5.3 with the new OZ kernel update on an SL5000. At home I'm running OSX (10.4) with QtopiaDesktop, and at work, I'm using Ubuntu Linux, also with Qtopia Desktop (1.7 for both).

The problem is that the datebook shows different times in the Zaurus calendar app compared to the desktop. In fact, it's always off by exactly 3 hours (the zaurus being 3 hours forward). Looking into the xml file, it appears that both the Mac and Zaurus are actually displaying the correct time.

The xml file lists the start date as +3 hours from when I book the datebook entry in Qtopia on Linux. If I make an appointment on the Z and sync back, the linux desktop shows the appointment as being 3 hours earlier then it is. The interesting bit is that the desktop's xml file is *IDENTICAL!* to the zaurus', meaning QtopiaDesktop on the desktop is simply off by three hours.

Both the desktops and zaurus have their timezones set to Montreal, so that's not it. It appears that qtopia is the issue. I'm only posting it here since it seems to affect the calendar on OZ, but not the Sharp rom. While OZ is clearly doing the right thing, Qtopia isn't. Any ideas?

Has anyone else run into this problem?

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Qtopia Syncing Oz Issue (strange)

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Odd Suspend When Holding "right" Button
« on: June 29, 2005, 12:03:43 pm »
Actually it's for all SL5xxx devices.  But this isn't an odd suspend, apparently it's a feature.  Either way, I just try not to do it =)

General Discussion / 860 Vs. Sl1000
« on: June 27, 2005, 08:04:59 am »
Well,

It appears that the 860 is only $50 cheaper than the 1000, so I'm looking for experiences with both.  Which one should I buy?  The only difference appears to be that the 3100 has a usb port and 416mhz processor instead of 400.  Am I missing something here?
What are the impressions?  I'll probably run openzaurus or pdaXrom depending on the zaurus I get.  So any help in choosing would be great!

thanks,

5x00 Hardware / Can I Use Any 802.11b Wireless Cf Card On Opie?

I'm using it with OZ 3.5.3 without issue.  The problem is that OZ 35.3. has tonnes of problems on the sl5k.  I'm about to downgragde to OZ 3.5.2.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz Keyboard Death?
« on: June 21, 2005, 10:01:29 pm »
This seems to occur frequently.  My Zaurus suddenly doesn't register key presses from either the keyboard or the magic buttons (addressbook, calendar, arrows, ok, etc.).

I'm running henteges 3.5.3 on an SL5000d.  Every time I suspend, I use the menu (not the keyboard), because of something I read elsewhere.

With this bug I can turn the zaurus on using the cancel key, but I can't successfully do anything keyboard related after that.  Ideas?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Henteges 3.5.3 Rom Issues
« on: June 17, 2005, 07:53:07 am »
Okay,

Here's all the knowledge I now have (and it's good stuff!).

1. Both the Zaurus and desktop share the same time zone information (i.e. America/Montreal).

2. If I make an entry on my desktop for say 8am, it shows up on my Zaurus' datebook (and today) as 1pm.

3. If I make an entry on my Zaurus for 1pm, it shows up on my desktop for 8am.

I'm quite buggered.  Does anyone know if OZ 3.5.2 does this?  I'm pretty willing to give up now.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Henteges 3.5.3 Rom Issues
« on: June 15, 2005, 01:51:35 pm »
I should add to this that today shows the apps time displaced (i.e. displaced by the 5 or so hours).  This is really frustrating me, rendering my Z useless.

« on: June 10, 2005, 08:50:24 am »
Ah... I didn't know about the the button bug.  Now I'm the wiser =)

As for the timezone thing, here's the interesting bit.  The alarm clock app sets the correct times (all my alarms work).  However, alarms from the datebook don't do the correct thing.  The alarms are displaced by about 5 hours.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Henteges 3.5.3 Rom Issues
« on: June 09, 2005, 03:01:54 pm »
It's more the first two which worry me.  I always suspend my Zaurus with the cancel button, but in this case that isn't the problem.  The Zaurus suspends itself (permanently) while I'm doing work.  I really can't make this fix.

As for the timezones, perhaps I'm doing something incorrect.  Where do I set the current timezone belonging to my Zaurus?  Perhaps I've buggered up.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Henteges 3.5.3 Rom Issues
« on: June 08, 2005, 08:17:59 am »
All,

I've got a bunch of problems on Henteges 3.5.3, and I'm hoping someone can help out.  All in all it's a great rom, but these issues are killing me.  If it helps, I've got an SL-5000d

1. My Zaurus randomly shuts off, requiring a reboot to make it alive again.  This seems to happen daily, and is really starting to get to me (happened 3 times during my subway ride to work).

2. All my alarms are off.  For some reason my zaurus is in a different time zone than I set it to using the DateTime control panel.  Anyone know where the localtime file is, or what I need to do?  It appears that my alarms are off by about 5 hours, which is where Grenwich is from my current time zone.

3. The Z halts after syncing with Qtopia.  I'm not sure why, but I need to reboot after I sync.    This only happens if I USB sync, which I have to at work.

Any help would be lovely!
