Zaurus - pdaXrom / Status *ping*

Hi!

First off let me say that I LOVE pdaXrom.  I wouldn't run anything else on my Zaurus.  In fact, I wouldn't consider making an hardware upgrade without being certain that pdaXrom ran on it and do a lot of planning based upon pdaXrom releases.  With that in mind, I was just wondering what the current status of pdaXrom was, what were the primary projects that were being developed, etc.  Its been a bit since a release or an update and, well, I'd really like something to get excited about, even if it isn't much more than a list of the things you were working on and what we might have to look forward to in the future.  Stir me up!

Thanks!!

Greg:

I don't know if you've figured this out by now since its been several months, but I've been looking at the Treo series myself, thinking about a purchase, and I can tell you that I have yet to find a provider that sells a Treo with the bluetooth DUN profile enabled (but there are hacks and patches).  I'd check to see if your phone supports DUN first or get the patch.

I have to agree with Alan.  Even better would be "available space" and "space that package (and dependencies) requires".  Nothing more annoying than starting an install and finding that you have consumed your entire partition.
Hm, are we getting off subject?  This thread seems to be digressing into "What I want in pdaXrom" more than "the new RC is almost out!".

Zaurus - pdaXrom / pdf viewer for pdaxrom?
« on: December 14, 2004, 04:17:03 pm »
Has anyone worked with compiling ghostscript for the pdaXrom?  I use it at work all the time to read pdfs on my Linux box.   If I have time later, I might work on it myself, but I thought I'd throw it out there as a suggestion for anyone else working on this project.

Allow me to add:  As I have been using it, gs is actually being called from kghostview, part of the kde desktop, when used as a pdf viewer.  But it can also be used from the command line, so a wrapper can easily be used.  There is also gv and ghostview as graphical front ends.

Allow me to concur with the previous comments.  I, like everyone else in this thread, am waiting anxiously (esp after reading all the fixes and addtions!) for the new release but I would rather you fully satisfied and comfortable with its status than rush you in any way.  Take your time, have some fun with it, and when you are ready, so are we!  rc5 is a fine release canidate and rc7 should be even better.  I'd rather the comfortable polish than the rushed release.   Thanks for your work!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Accounting Software
« on: December 07, 2004, 03:48:33 pm »
Thanks, PMF!  And thanks for providing the package.  I have tried to edit the prefrences as you suggested after creating an account and every time it crashes for me with a Glib_ERROR:
Glib-ERROR **: gmem.c:140: failed to allocate 4294967168 bytes
I am running RC 5 (soon to be RC 7!)

Ok, always one to answer my own posts, I've found Grisbi on
 http://pmf.neominds.net/zfeed.php#grisbi
which also requires libexpat1-compat, also available on pmf.
BUT it seems to only work in euros....

Just curious, but is anyone using any checkbook/accounting software on their zaurus running pdaXrom?  I noticed that Grisbi used to be part of the feed, but isn't anymore.  Is there a working alternative?  Opinions?

Thanks alot for the changelog post.  Now I know what will be fixed and what to look forward to!  It also tells me what to be ready to experiment with when I get my hot hands on the new release!  I am more than ready to wait, knowing that each day makes it a better release.  Hey, its great to know pdaXrom is an active project, constantly moving forward.  Keep up the great work!

Very excited!  But not so excited that I can't wait for the new release to be "polished".  Is there (or will there be) a full changelog for the updates/fixes/additions for this release?  As anxious to read this as I am to play with the new rc.
*like the day before xmas*

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Kopi Unstable

I am running KO/PI 1.9.4 on Kathrin RC 5 and love it- except when it crashes.  When ever I try to toggle a "to do" as done in the to do view, it crashes.  I've run KO/PI from the command line to get greater info on the crash and have found that it is exiting on an "illegal instruction".  Also, KO/PI is complaining on not being able to find a
/home/root/kdepim/config/docprefs.todolist
file.  When in the general view, I am able to toggle to dos as done, without problem.
I have moved my entire kdepim directory aside and restarted KO/PI, generating new prefrences, and it still does not generate the docprefs.todolist file and crashes at the same point.  I would create the pref file by hand and see if it stablized the program, if I knew its syntax.  I am not using any filters, either.  It seems to be able to toggle a task as done, but unable to figure out what to do next, probably due to the lack of a prefs file.  In my experimenting and restarting from the first launch, I found it also failed to create other prefs files at times, causing the entire application to fail to launch at all.  Has anyone else encountered these problems?  Anyone suggest solutions?
