Sharp ROMs / Need Battery Application
« on: April 30, 2006, 12:21:38 pm »
There was a battery application called launcherx-batteryapplet that would give more information about the battery than the default Sharp battery indicator.

The only reference I could find was at killefiz.de:

http://killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=1379

But to download it references a dead link  to - um - zaurususergroup.org

Does anyone know where I can find this app or something similar?

I have an SL-6000.  Thanks.

6000 - Tosa / 6000 Batteries Available ... And Cheap
« on: March 08, 2006, 09:56:48 am »
I have this new battery, and I want to store it away in my refrigerator for later use.  What would be the best way to do this?  I'm thinking (1) totally charge it up, (2) completely drain it, (3) charge it up again, (4) run it down to about half charge, (5) vacuum seal it in plastic & store it in my refrigerator.

Is this the way to prepare & store a new battery?

I would love a better ROM than the Sharp ROM, and the Guyhelm-Cacko sounds like it might be good.  I hope its finished soon.  :-)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 6000 Built-in Wireless Howto For 1.1.0beta1?
« on: January 26, 2006, 11:36:30 pm »
Thanks for your help.  The wlan0 interface is definitely available after running "/etc/rc.d/init.d/wlan start".  However, running the command "dhcpcd wlan0" has no effect for me.  I was wrong in my earlier post saying dhcpcd didn't return.  Eventually it does, but after running it still doesn't allow me to be able to issue a command such as "ping 192.168.1.1" or "ping www.yahoo.com" with a good result.  The output from running "ifconfig wlan0" is the exact same after running dhcpcd as it was before running it.

u need to manually start the wlan device by running as root:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/wlan start
then use dhcp to get the ip or set it manually:
dhcpcd wlan0
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=109273\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

This didn't work for me - well not completely.
The command:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/wlan start
started my wireless light blinking on my 6000L, but the second command:
dhcpcd wlan0
ran & never returned.

Basically no wireless access still.

If anyone knows the answer to this problem please speak up.  There are a lot of people here (including myself) who are not having any success with getting wireless to work in beta1 for their 6000.

Is there a JDK or even a JRE that will run on pdaXrom?  Is someone working on this?

Update... as of right now, Amazon has a few batteries available. Two for $79, and two for sale by a third party for $59. I was lucky enough to just receive a notice that I'm getting one.

Amazon Z 6k batteries

Good luck to everyone else hunting these batteries!

I just ordered the $59 one from the third party listed by Amazon.  The seller states: "Brand new in factory sealed box by Sharp."  I hope he isn't lying.

When it comes in I can give an update & post pics if anyone is interested.

as usual ... do anything like this at your own risk.

My solution wouldbe to reset everything to "virgin sharp' and go from there. on my 6k I'd go the guylhem route.  Just did this morning, In fact.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I agree that going back to a "virgin sharp" setup would be the best approach.  My question is how do I do that?  According to the [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=6000_Hardware_Info]6000 Hardware Info[/url] page listed here on this site it states:

30MB is mounted as '/home'. This can be modified by anyone on any ROM, and is not modified when flashing the unit. Some modified scripts however such as the one provided with OpenZaurus can prompt you to format it.

Based on this information simply flashing the ROM back to a Sharp setup would not alter the partitioning, and therefore IF flashing were successful it still might not be a "virgin sharp" setup.  I need to get back to a "virgin sharp" setup so I can follow these new instructions listed in this thread.

Does anyone know the answer to this?  Do I need some sort of repartitioning utility to set it back to a "virgin sharp" partition scheme?  Does such a utility exist?  When I repartitioned to a 45 MB partition as specified in the How to install pdaXrom listed at this site, what partition did it affect?  Was it root / ??  Was it /home ??

Someone here must know the answers, but they aren't saying.  Perhaps I haven't been clear in asking my questions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK.  I sure would have appreciated an answer to my question (ahem.. Laze)  but since no one did I went ahead & took a chance.  Here is what I found out.  To go back to the original SL6000L ROM:

Simply go to [a href=\"http://www.thegrantclan.org/download/zaurus/roms/tosa/]http://www.thegrantclan.org/download/zaurus/roms/tosa/[/url]

Download the following file:  20040217SL6V112.zip
Follow the directions listed in: howtoflashsharprom.txt

Thats all you need to do.  Don't worry about how you may have partitioned your 6000.  THe NAND restore will restore EVERYTHING to its original pristine state.

Can someone please share the original NAND backup of the Zaurus SL-6000L?
http://zaurus.thegrantclan.org/download/za...0217SL6V112.zip is the original sharp rom as found on sharps site.  I have used it many time and then restored my backup and had my Z right back to the point it was before I started playing.  The instruction from sharps website on how to uses this restore are  at http://zaurus.thegrantclan.org/download/za...ashsharprom.txt.
Does this process works only with CF and not SD?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Tutorial: Pdaxrom On Sl-6000
« on: August 20, 2005, 07:58:39 pm »
My problem is this.  A few weeks ago I followed the directions in the Howto section of this site titled: How to install pdaXrom

In those directions it states:

Quote
5-When your Zaurus reboots, you will see the pdaXrom installer!

6-Select option number 3 and choose 1 (resize), then set the size to 45MB or 47MB as you like and choose OK.

7-When your Zaurus is rebooting, push the reset button.

So now I have his 45MB partition that is good for nothing.  What do I do now?  Do I need to do repartition again back to what a "virgin" Sharp install would be before going the Guyhelm/PdaXrom route, or do I follow the instructions listed here & everything will be resized the way it should?

I need some help here because if I simply make a guess I could end up with a bricked 6000L.

What do I do?

Thanks.

6000 - Tosa / Resizing Partitions
« on: August 20, 2005, 07:46:49 pm »
I followed the directions for resizing my partition to 45MB as listed in thePDAXROM instructions found How to install PdaXrom here.  Now I want to go back to the way it was before, since pdaXrom doesn't seem to be a good solution for me.  According to the 6000 hardware info page:

Quote
    *  60MB of RAM available. RAM is not saved when the unit looses power.
    * 60MB of FLASH available (SL-6000D has 128MB). FLASH is available after the unit looses power.
o 30MB is mounted as '/'. On the SHARP ROM it's not available for modification. On most other ROMs you can change it as you see fit. When flashing the unit with updater.sh script this is the location where initrd.bin is copied to.
o 30MB is mounted as '/home'. This can be modified by anyone on any ROM, and is not modified when flashing the unit. Some modified scripts however such as the one provided with OpenZaurus can prompt you to format it.

I assume the 45MB in the pdaXrom install didn't affect the root partition.  Is that correct?  So what do I do now to get my 6000L back to factory spec?

Thanks.

John

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom On My 6000, Now What?
« on: August 07, 2005, 11:59:51 pm »
Thanks for you (and Zack's) replies.  The previous set of instructions (found here) told me I needed to resize my root partition.  I did to the recommended 45MB.  I've read other people say on the forums here that the 6000's partition should NOT be resized.  Which is it?

Thanks again,

John
