Linux Applications / Hugs on Zaurus
« on: October 19, 2004, 12:39:47 pm »
I tried installing the Hugs (Haskell 98) interpreter on my SL 5500 Sharp 3.13 zaurus but it failed. Something about an "unexpected end of file".

Is there anyway round this or is it likely to be a problem with the package?

If that's the case there is source code if someone more skilled wants to have a go at compiling it

See here.

Thanks

Software / State of emulation on 5xxx series?
« on: October 19, 2004, 12:15:30 pm »
I've used snes9x quite a bit* but is there any way to map the directional pad and app buttons on Zaurus? (as it is a little awkward to play using the keyboard)

(Using an SL5500 with Sharp 3.13 rom)

Thanks

* Works really well as long as -ns option is added.

General Discussion / Opie Media Player 2 on Sharp Rom (3.13)
« on: October 19, 2004, 12:09:47 pm »
I was looking through the Opie feeds trying to find Opie MP2 for the sharp rom (SL5500, rom 3.13) but despite having skins for it there do not appear to be any binaries in either the stable or 1.0.3 feeds.

Is this some sort of error or is the software incompatible with this rom or something?

It seems to be in pretty much all the other feeds I looked at

Thanks for any help you can provide

James

Software / basic programing for the Z?
« on: October 19, 2004, 11:54:20 am »
I would opt for Python (or Perl, or Ruby) if you haven't programmed before. It may look  a little odd but it is much, much easier than Java to pick up.

In Python you can learn the basics in a few minutes, I gave up on learning Java due to the fact you needed to learn quite a lot just to do simple stuff.

It is also interpreter based which makes it easier (in most cases) to quickly run it.

There are some pretty good online tutorials for Python (see www.python.org for a complete list)
