Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe Calendar And Weddav
« on: March 29, 2006, 11:37:34 am »
GPE seems to be working really nicely here with OZ 3.5.4 on my Zaurus collie.  I am using Sunbird Calendar (windows) at my office and the calendar extension in Thunderbird (Mepis Linux) at home.  I have access to a server that supports webdav and save the calendar there from both locations so I have an up to date version of my calendar that I can read and edit from work or at home.

What I am wondering is whether there is a way to access the same calendar using GPE Calendar.  Will it support loading and editiing a remote file in this way?   It doesn't look like there is a way to do it but I thought I would ask here in case anyone knows a way.

Sylpheed installed easily but I can't get around on the small screen to set  up accounts.  Will tinker futher but it looks like it doesn't work in the small format.

See https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=101415 to make sylpheed run a bit better on QVGA.

2) gpe-mini-browser or minimo
3) you could try sylpheed
4) gaim-2.0 is what you're looking for

Thanks, lots of good stuff there.

I have been doing fine with the command line package installation.  The gui package manager doesn't work.

Didn't find minimo but gpe-mini-browser and dillo both look pretty good.

Sylpheed installed easily but I can't get around on the small screen to set  up accounts.  Will tinker futher but it looks like it doesn't work in the small format.

Gaim works just fine.

Looking good ..  . . just need to get an email program working.

I have managed to get both gpe and opie images of 3.5.4 running from the sd card as root using altboot.

I have again spent most of a weekend trying to get opie working well, and, well, I must be opie challenged.  The package manger is worse than before, konqueror still doesn't install propertly and so far as I can see opie t is no better than the earlier version which, for me at least, was interesting but not useable for actual work.

Poking around in gpe, it is lookng more complete than before but I still have these issues:

1.  Are other finding that the package manager crashes often with a message about the back end having failed?

2.  Is dillo what people are using for a web browser?

3.  I would like to install gpe-mail but it isn't in the stock feed.

4.  I would like to install gpe-gaim but it isn't there either.

I have had a lot of fun with my collie in the year and a half that I have had it, but I am begining to think it will be obsolete before I figure out how to actually get it set up as a useable device.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gpe-mail

I have OZ 3.5.4 set up to boot from sd using altboot and I am exploring GPE.  I see mention of gpe-mail but can't find it in the package list.  mailx is there, but I am guessing that is not the same thing.  Any hints?

Similar to question I posted at
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18467&hl=

I have a feeling there is some step we are missing, related to what is the right kind of image file to use and where to get it.

Does someone know the answers?

Cheers

Thanks for all the work on this new release, it looks good.  I have done a 64-0 install on my Collie choosing Opie.  So far so good, but I want to move the root to the SD card.

I have read http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/docs/altboot.shtml and I think I understand it.

I went to
http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/mirror/www.op...ollie/tarballs/
and got all 3 images, bootstrap, gpe and opie.  I put them on the cf card, put that into the zaurus and used filemanager to copy them across to the sd card putting them into a folder called /boot-images.

Hoping it was a simple as that, I rebooted the zaurus, and from the Altboot menu, chose 8 Install RootFS from tar.gz.

I got an error saying that altboot doesn't yet support using multiple files this way, so I deleted the bootstrap and gpe files leaving the opie version called opie-image-3.5.4-collie.rootfs.tar.gz

Rebooted and made the same menu choice.  Got the same error.

I would like to end up being able to use Altboot to choose from opie or gpe when booting but I am missing something.

Any suggestions?

5x00 Hardware / Targus Keyboard On Z5500
« on: November 12, 2005, 08:36:43 pm »
I am using OZ 3.5.4(rc) on a Zaurus 5500.  I have a Targus "Universal Wireless Keyboard" that I understand can be used on the Z.  So far I don't have it running.

I wanted to use the Z in Landscape mode and found that I can change the direction of the screen rotation in the Appearance settings.  That is good because otherwise the IR port would be facing down and not be accessible.

Questions I have at this point are

What is the best way to attach the Z to the keyboard?

What package do I need to install in the Z to get it talking to the keyboard?

Anyone else doing this?  I know that it does get used with the Z, but haven't got it going here yet.

Cheers

Has anyone got this working with the Henteges version of OZ?  The packages seem to install but don't run properly here on my 5500.

I installed Gaim (w/ all those libraries) and it just can't open...I really wonder...

I have the service pack version of this installed and I can get it to work with icq but not with yahoo or msn.  Have others been able to get it to work?

Installed Opera 7.3 (using compat) and konqueror...
But they just crash TOOO often....(might be because of those crazy javascript and flash in the website)
how can I make them "stable", is there any CSS code that I can edit (Just like firefox)

I haven't tried Opera but once I followed the instructions about which libraries to install and got my wireless networking operating, konqueror worked.  Mine crashes to but it seems to be the result of my root folder where it puts it cache folders running out of room.  I can't find anywhere to change that, I would like it to be on the sd card which is where I have konqueror installed.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Konqueror-embedded And Its Cache
« on: December 09, 2004, 01:01:42 am »
I have the same problem.  It creates a series of folders with a single alpha character all in root.  But I can't see where I can set that I want the cache to be on the sd card . . . .

A
Another odd little problem is that in its display of text from a web page it repeats the first letter of a paragraph as the first character on the line above the paragraph like the "A" before this paragraph.  Not sure what that is about.

On the Zaurus, the same commands all came up blank.  The first two responded

Kernel IP routing table
with the headings for the table of data but the tables were empty.

The third command gave no response at all.

The 5500 is new to me.  The systme info screen says Opie 0.9.3, kernel 2.4.6-rmk1-embed and OpenZaurus 3.2

I have a feeling there are some networking packages missing in this unit.  Several pages suggest using the Network Setup Application.  Although there is a Network icon in Settings, it comes up with a Connections tab and a Profiles Tab and both are empty.  There all of the buttons ask you to set an interface first and there are none.

I am thinking I am missing some network components on the Zaurus and perhaps should put in the new 3.5.1 ROM image but I have heard the packaging module isn't working in that and I don't know which image to use (I have a 256 meg SD card and and 512 meg CF card plus a CF wireless lan card.).
