Zaurus - pdaXrom / Mysteriously Ran Out Of Space
« on: November 08, 2005, 09:47:10 pm »
pdaXrom crashed and is now telling me there is no room left in the / area whereas there was 14M free last time I checked. What's wrong and how can I resolve it?
Could it be coredumps?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Rc12 For Sl-c7x0/7500/c860/c1000/c3100

Not sure what you've changed but the user experience in RC12 is far better than it was in RC11 - great work. I may even keep PdaXrom as my standard OS but I have to find a way to transfer my information from Cacko first

Software / Bookreader - Severe Bug...
« on: September 07, 2005, 08:46:19 am »
I've found a very problematic bug in bookreader with the zoom function in the menu. It has a tendency to lock up the entire system with no comeback but removing the batteries for a reboot unless you're lucking enough to be connected to your LAN and be able to ssh into it to kill the program.

The problem is the program seem to be Japanese and the website for it too - so I'm not sure how to file a bug to the guy about this. I can provide a good bug report but if they chap can't understand it, there's little point  Does anyone know of a developer on the program (which is incidentally a top program for reading comics)?

Hentges is the best I could find until my 5500 broke down. Seriously worth a try
for anyone with a 5500...

yeah i read somewhere that you are not suppose to keep the lighter power pluged into the zaurus when starting a car.

So could that have completely killed the Zaurus then? Is there actually any point still trying with it and should I start trawling ebay for a replacement?

if you have a charger light come on, you might have some hope.

Nope no light  at all from the LEDs  Maybe some powersurge killed it as I use it in the car quite a bit.

Try to take out the battery for 5 minutes. put it back in, flip the switch, plug in ac power, let it charge over night.

Thanks. will try that. Here's hoping

my battery's life was getting worse and worse until it eventually died. Couldn't get anything from it at all (no LED even with AC connected) but it does exhude a lot of hear above the battery.

Anyways, I bought another battery but that makes no difference. It seems well and truly bricked despite not having flashed it...  Reset+C+D has no effect and the lights won't come on.

What's the next step? I suppose something could have fried inside it - so any tips on repairers (Europe wide)?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz3.5.3 (collie) On/off Button Problem

I speak as someone who has tried OZ and given up on it as nothing more than a cool developers project. Its focus is not end users. It is of no use to end users.

Nonsense. I can't hack to save my life but it does more than what I need it to (I use Hentges' roms as I find them to be better fitted to my needs). I  can understand that you may be frustrated with the speed of progress but all the chaps are working in their own time and doing a pretty good job of it. The suspend issue may be a little frustrating - I just remember to use my stylus to suspend it - not the end of the world and something I accepted when using OZ which is after all still in testing phase (correct me if I'm wrong on that).

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sd Mount Problems On Boot

Thanks for the tips.

I added links to "/etc/init.d/umountfs" to rc0.d and rc6.d and that fixed the problem.  I wonder why these links aren't there as default?  Maybe most people wouldn't use them, but maybe they can't hurt.  I don't know.

Worked for me too - great tip that one. It was getting quite irritating when I accidentally turned it off with the button and had to go through the entire process again.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Turn Off Alarms?
« on: March 02, 2005, 07:41:56 am »
I think they're stored in Clock.conf (in the home directory then in Settings IIRC)
I had the same problem with the alarms - was woken up at 2 am once even though
it was set for 9:30

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / mp3 skips and blips in XMMS w/OZ 3.5.1 on 5500

So the bottleneck really is the SD card - what's the best option for extending the caching of the SD card? Would that depend on the image I choose when I flash the Zaurus? I'm currently running 64-0 so what should I change it too... It makes sense not using the CF for caching if I want to keep it alive

Should the SD be so slow that it can't play files properly though? It seems chronically slow considering the size of the files we're talking about.
