You have to tell it to connect to a specific GPRS access point. The access point for internet is typically different to that used fo WAP by the phone itself. You specify this with a special number/string to dial, but the actual string differs from phone to phone.

I think you should see a log of what in going on when you dial in /tmp/qpe-ppp-log.

You can check if the card is working by running the command 'hciconfig'. If this doesn't output anything then it isn't working.

If you do get some output and it states the device is 'UP', then you can run the command 'sdptool browse' to search for other devices.

ELSI General Discussion / What's Wrong With Elsi?

My two points:

1) As others have said, the entry for each listed item is too big. The description should be chopped off after only about 30 characters or something, with new lines removed too.
2) I don't seem to be able to upload ipks direct to ELSI. When I get to the page that instructs me where to upload, it doesn't give the necessary details.

Cards are automatically recognised as a bluetooth card if you add an entry for them in /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.conf . I don't know what other PCMCIA scripts you have through since you are running a custom ROM and the standard BlueZ way of doing things is slightly different to that of the Cacko ROM's way.

With the latest ipk I produced (attached to a post in this section), all the serial initialisation stuff was moved into /etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.

Not that IR connections are at all secure, but considering the very short range of IR and class 3 BT devices (most phones and CF cards), someone would have to be practically on top of you to even start snooping.

General Discussion / Sort Of A Clamshell Z Thingie....

It's a 3G phone. That circle next to the cursor buttons on the screen side is a second camera for video calls.

It's a nice size considering its a fully fledged, clamshell PDA *and* 3G phone. I really like that it has the cursor keys in portrait mode too. Add Linux and OK/Cancel buttons by the cursor keys and it would be a excellent PDA/phone.

HTC produce all the (Microsoft based) Orange SPV smartphones in the UK and I see Vodafone and Orange mentioned at the top, so maybe it is heading to the UK? Google chokes when trying to translate and Babelfish produces jargon.

I hadn't noticed tetron had updated that page. Did you try the instructions that tetron gave above? I haven't got that card to test this with.

I didn't think it was working as people have used the later version of the BlueZ libraries that I compiled, which have the stuff tetron said was missing. So I was wondering if tetron has done something else...

Don't know much about Macs so can't help with the PAN problem.

As for the phone dialup, the setup once you have your Zaurus and phone paired is no different from connecting via IR or serial. You will need to enter the correct modem init string for your phone and the username and password O2 requires, if any. It sounds like the Bluetooth connection to your phone is fine so it is simply these settings that you need to find for your phone and O2, which can usually be found with Google.

While the BT2000C uses the CSR chip for the Bluetooth comms, the communication between the Zaurus and the CF card itself is done using a serial protocol and the driver for the serial chip on the CF card does not exist at the moment as far as I know.

I checked in /tmp/ and there was a file called "bluetooth-pppd-log". Inside the file was only the following line:
"Failed to open /dev/rfcomm1: Host is down".

The Bluetooth link is not being established. You need to enable syslogging to /var/log/messages to see what is going on.

Yeah, I got some failed chunks too. It still compiled and worked though. It seems to be centered around the serial driver, but it doesn't appear to have any negative affect as all the serial based drivers are working.

Now that the Z's support USB keyboards and mice, the zaurus is begging for VGA out.

Hardware based VGA-out sounds like the only way it would work. Probably with it's own GPU or something (excuse my ignorance).

Someone in our office has a Dell Axim X50v with the VGA adapter cable. The X50 must have the VGA output built in as all the cable looks like is a straight forward sync port to D-SUB connector cable. The cable is only £40 too and that includes the full ClearView suite for PDFs, Powerpoint, Word, Excel and picture slideshows. The quality of all the rendering is really impressive. Why we have to fork out hundreds for a CF VGA out card and limited software I do not know.

The X50v comes with a screen mirroring setting by default too, so I guess you could use it with an external keyboard and monitor, albeit at 640x480. Don't know about a mouse though and Pocket PC is notoriously difficult to control without using the touchscreen.

A Dell X50v with a clamshell keyboard and of course running Linux+Qtopia would be my ideal PDA.

I think for a PDA 640x480 is fine, until you start talking about using it as a laptop replacement.

Well, it's more a case of not being in a working state at the moment.

I blame my wife  . She calls my Zaurus my mistress when I spend too much time on it  

I'm beginning to think perhaps someone else with more time should start from scratch   . I'm busier than ever at the moment, looking for a job since they announced the closure of the site I work at.

OK, in June I will seriously dedicate a weekend to it, to at least get it changing all the config options and scanning for other Bluetooth devices and put it up for someone else to finish.

- Tumnus: the zaurus community link for BlueZ leads to the "Sharp Support Center".  Patently useless, that.  How would one go about getting the source for BlueZ alpha4 that runs on the C1000?  And of course getting into the development community at large.  (grin)  Thanks for your time...

Yeah, Sharp used to host projects, but they closed that down a while ago. I've written a quick howto for compiling BlueZ here:
