6000 - Tosa / Source For Ea-bl09 Battery
« on: August 20, 2007, 11:40:03 am »
Streamline CPUs website is down, and my battery is showing signs of being turned to paste as well.
I hate to see that this great handheld computer is about to be tethered to an AC outlet.

I wonder where we can get replacement batteries now?

I've just posted the sled on Ebay.  Here's the site:

I made it a 10 day auction.

I still have all my components.   And... I managed to get hold of funds for the Macbook, so I don't need to sell anything.

However, I do think that I have no real use for the expansion sled.  I'd like to research how much previous sales of the sled went for.  Possibly offer the one sled w/ battery up for sale.

There you go.  I may regret this, but I'll consider parting stuff out.

Just noticed, someone asked if I had two expansion sleds.   To clarify, I have two DOCKING sleds and one EXPANSION sled

Yeah, I think I'm going to sell it.
I've got this museum of computers I'm going to sell, and the Z seems to be the only way to get myself up to serious cash for a Macbook.

I'll put a note on Craigslist for the Atlanta Area asking $800 later today.  Let's see what happens.

Interesting that this would pop up.  I have a 6000L that I used to do some embedded design, end result being a publishing.  I  now use the Z MUCH less than I used to use my Palm based device, for essentially a portable rolodex.

I spent the weekend going through the house looking for rarely used electronics to sell in order to raise money for a Macbook.  The Z was one of the things I'm thinking of selling.  BUT, there seems to be no recent indicator of it's cost.

Mine has a 60X 1G SD card, and a 4G CF Microdrive.  Firmware is original, and I've installed ZGCC and some other stuff on it.

 I've also got two docking sleds, a single power supply, an adaptor for an iGo universal power supply, a custom serial cable (RS-232) and the expansion pack.  I've ALWAYS kept the glass protected with plastic.  (Until I did my presentation.  The plastic made the display show REALLY bad on camera.)  Since then, it's been sitting lonely.

It's not for sale yet, but could be very easily.  What price could that list of stuff get me?

NUTS!
I can't find a legitimate copy of libssl.  Two problems
The IPGK give me this:
Quote
# ipkg -d root install libssl0.9.7_0.9.7e-r1_arm.ipk
ERROR: File not found: /usr/lib/ipkg/lists/New
       You probably want to run `ipkg update'

zcat: libssl0.9.7_0.9.7e-r1_arm.ipk: not in gzip format

zcat: stdin: unexpected end of file
ipkg_install_file: ERROR unpacking control.tar.gz from libssl0.9.7_0.9.7e-r1_arm.ipk
And if I try to build my own using ZGCC, I get this:
Quote
# ./config
Operating system: armv5tel-whatever-linux2
You need Perl 5.
And when I try to use the IPGK to install Perl, I get a 'something happened' error.  (by now, I'm frustrated, and am using GUI)
Does anyone have a valid LibSSL.ipk file they can share?

6000 - Tosa / Expansion Sled: Where To Find?
« on: March 14, 2006, 01:55:24 pm »
I would suggest buying one from someone <i>almost</i> like me.  I own a sled, I only use it once a month or so, just to keep the LiIon battery from degrading due to prolonged state of discharge, have no other use for it, (here's where you need to find someone different) I know these sleds are a non-renewable resource, and am not willing to part with mine cheap.

Accessories / Flexible Keyboards
« on: March 14, 2006, 12:58:45 pm »
I have a 'True Touch Keyboard' which is a blue rollable keyboard.  I've used it only a couple of times. The keys are flat, and there is no distinct 'successful keypress' feel, so I find myself slowly mashing the keys, despite seeing that a light touch would work.  The keyboard rolls up tight, and consumes little space compared to all the power supplies, laptops, PC boards etc in my case, but I don't use it that often.

My preferred method for entering text (non PIM) is to have enabled telnet server on the Z, and telnet wirelessly via a full blown computer with a real keyboard.  My favorite method for entering text (PIM) is to pull the USB keyboard/mouse off my iMac and plug it into my Z.

Well, it seems everyone is interested in meeting, but nobody wants to commit to a place to meet.  I'll throw out a suggestion:

Since we all recognize Sept 11 as a significant date in the US of A, how about we try a meeting at the Panera Bread on Sept 12?  coffee, forbidden pastries (I guess) and free Wifi!  This gives us a month to let this Message soak.

The address for this Panera Bread is:
2100 Pleasant Hill Road
Duluth GA, 30096

I, for one, have something interesting to share.  I've written some applications that allow me to program PIC microcontrollers with my Z.  This involved installing ZGCC, the Zaurus C compiler on the Z, getting a telnet session.  Also have Keyboard and Mouse capability, thanks to these forums.

I don't have any idea what it's near.  I suspect it's near that Mall.  It looks like it's to the north, close to Satellite Blvd, toward the I-85 side.  (Gawd, I need to get out more)

6000 - Tosa / Using Usb As Device Driver
« on: August 15, 2005, 02:21:14 pm »
Got it!  The TUSB2040 is not Interrupt friendly.  When an interrupt is sent to this device, it chokes the 6000, and that's all.  Sending data in bulk via software does the trick.  But I still don't feel like an expert.

Summary:  Don't write drivers that use the standard interrupt method of sending USB data.

6000 - Tosa / Using Usb As Device Driver
« on: August 15, 2005, 11:00:30 am »
I'm trying to write some software that will allow me to program embedded controllers using the Z.  I've got an unusual problem -  I've gotten as far as being able to recognize the programmer, but as soon as I try to write a block of data to the controller, WHAM!  Lockup.  Here's where I could use some help.  When I built libusb, the build enabled interrupt driven bulk data writes.  Does anyone know if the USB controller in the 6000 allows for interrupt driven writes?  Should I reprogram the application to use bulk writes?
I saw in the USB cables thread that someone else was getting lockup when trying to access a jukebox (I'll assume that's an MP3 player).  Maybe this is something similair?  I've been adding printf statements to the usb applications to try and get input on where the crash is occurring.  Here's where I think the crash happens.

Code: [Select]
int usb_interrupt_write(usb_dev_handle *dev, int ep, char *bytes, int size,
    int timeout)
{
  /* Ensure the endpoint address is correct */
  return usb_interrupt_transfer(dev, ep & ~USB_ENDPOINT_IN, bytes, size,
  timeout);
}
crashes the system.  Whazzup with that?
Thanks for your help, Zaurus experts!

6000 - Tosa / Confusion Re: Libusb
« on: July 31, 2005, 11:31:03 am »
I'm trying to get some USB devices working on my 6000.  For that, I'd need libusb.  Heres the interesting thing though.  I installed the ZGCC compiler on the PDA, and use a Telnet session into terminal.  I get an ERROR1 when I use the latest (0.1.10a) version of Libusb.  Backing down, I see 0.1.8 works just great.  Anyone have any idea what ERROR1 means?  Or why I can't compile anything later than libusb0.1.8?  My searches reveal nothing.

By the way, it was sweet having three linux experts logged into my Z all compiling programs.  Think that most people use a PDA for contact info and calander, and here we are using the PDA as a server, and the workhorse of a small development team.
