Sharp ROMs / Connecting Wirelessly The Manual Way
« on: March 12, 2005, 03:47:35 am »
Hi,

I'm having some problems connecting to my home (wireless) router in the usual fashion: is there a command-line method by which I can see what is going wrong?

General Discussion / Trivia Hunt : Why Is It Called A Zaurus
« on: February 19, 2005, 09:16:04 am »
According to the Japanese wikipedia article http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaurus it's just a modification of 'saurus', ostensibly when some executive at Sharp liked the idea of strength that the association with dinosaurs conveyed.

Strikes me as an odd thing to name a PDA, since most people associate dinosaurs with incredible size, but there you go.

Yes, other than that, Sylpheed works. Everything looks as if it is in order.

I tried installing emacs from the Xqt feed (http://xqt.sourceforge.jp/feed/) but upon execution I get the following:

Code: [Select]
$ emacs
Cannot open load file: term/x-win

Any ideas?

Sharp ROMs / Opie-reader Broken?

By the way, is there a specific reason you are running uqtreader as root?

It didn't have the permissions to write certain files, probably that very file: the one that saves the state of opened documents when you exit the application. I'll try this right now.

edit: Worked like a treat: thanks!

I'm using Cacko's 1.22.

I used the updated opie-reader from the Cacko feed with no problems for a while, but then I get this:

Quote
$ sudo uqtreader

QPixmap::convertFromImage: Cannot convert a null image uqtreader

Sharp ROMs / My SL5000D after flash ROM,can help?

It looks like /dev/mtdblock1 was not formated to be ext2.  Try booting up to the Repiers Fs prompt and running mke2fs /dev/mtdblock1, after that try mounting it somewhere.  Hope this helps.

JP

How do you get to this prompt? I don't know about Repiers, but do you mean ReiserFS? I have a C750 now, but I'd like to give reviving the old 5500 a try.

Cxx0 General discussions / Thumbboard Of The C Series...

I recently demonstrated this to a friend who couldn't believe that you could touch-type on such a tiny keyboard. For me, the keys are just barely big enough to attempt to touch-type with, but depending on the size of your hands your mileage may vary.

I own a C750, but I would imagine, depending on whether the resistance was too uncomfortable to type with, that the C3000 keys would make for a better experience.

Also, some of the keys are indeed shifted awkwardly, but I learnt to get used to it and can type comfortably and with a reasonable degree of accuracy now.
