For Sale / Wanted / For Sale Or Trade: Sharp Zaurus 5600 Plus Accessories
« on: October 19, 2008, 02:16:10 am »
Hi Balazs,

I am not sure what the cost to ship to Austria would be, but was looking for $75 US Dollars for everything + S/H costs.  I looked on the US Postal Service and to ship First Class Mail I think it will be $16.90.

Thanks for your reply!

Hi Steve!

What would be Your price for all this?

I am living in Austria, any ideas about shipping costs?

(just to be honest....I am still undecided whether I should go with C-models or this, as an entry into the Zaurus world, but if the price is OK, I would consider it.)

Thanx: Balazs

Just to note, I plugged in power and the device ran just fine.  I'm not sure about the battery life, but can test if there's an interest.  I can also photo the actual device if there is interest.

Thanks!

For Sale / Wanted / For Sale Or Trade: Sharp Zaurus 5600 Plus Accessories

Hi All,

I have a Sharp Zaurus SL-5600 that I have had stored for over a year and thought I would see if anyone was interested for either a sale or trade.  I have the original box that has the 5600 (certainly used, screen protector a bit scuffed but screen itself in great shape), cradle, power supply, and original cdrom.  In additiona, I have a USB sync cable that also powers the device (a little loose from usage but with a little pressure works just fine), an extra battery, an AmbiCom 802.11b card, a 512 meg CF card, a 256 meg SD card, a Hitachi 4 gig CF Micrdrive, and Pockettop keyboard.

I haven't turned this on in over a year, but last I used this I had OZ flashed on it, and one battery lasted about 2 hrs and the other about 1-1.25 hrs.

I haven't really touched this in a long time but I wanted to get this out to see if anyone was interested, and if so, I will charge up the batteries and test to verify the device is working correctly, clear out device, can reflash ROM, etc.

PM me with any questions!

(For Trades: I'd be interested in netbooks or mp3 players or if you have any gadget-y thing or accessory, just feel free to PM me and maybe something will work out!)

Thanks!
steven

Software / Gtd With Kde-pim/pi

Glad you enjoyed it!  I'd love to be running KO/PI on a clamshell device but have neither the money nor real need since the 5600 is still running fine.  But I'll be looking forward to purchasing one someday when I can!

Hi All,

I'm a big fan of KOrganizer/PI and use it on my 5600, Linux desktop, and Windows Desktop at work.  I've recently gotten into David Allen's "Getting Things Done" time management ideas and reading many productivity websites regarding that.

I wanted to share some of my own experience in regards to GTD and things I'm doing with Zaurus and KO/PI.  I've posted a blog entry at:

http://www.kunstmusik.com/2006/08/25/gtd-with-korganizerpi/

Hopefully will give users some ideas on ways to setup their own systems with KO/PI and also maybe highlight some of the neat things about KO/PI.

Thanks to everyone who has put the time into making KO/PI!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Poodle Kernel 2.6 Preview
« on: May 21, 2006, 10:07:12 pm »
Hi CoreDump,

I just wanted to say I'm really impressed and happy with the progress I am reading about, and very happy that I donated money towards the 5600 you now have.  Since the 5600 is my primary PDA I am not able to help test currently since certain bugs that are listed are too critical for me not to be able to use, but am looking forward to trying this out once things get a little more stable.

Best of luck and bravo on your speedy work!
steven

Hey all,

At http://hentges.net/tmp/Poodle-Kernel-2.6/ you'll find an experimental Opie image for Poodle with kernel 2.6.

Be advised that a few kernel related things are still broken (sound, SD/MMC and probably USB) but this preview should give you a good understanding of what is to come

If you find problems with Opie that are related to the switch from kernel 2.4 to 2.6 please let me know but check the Kernel 2.6 Status Page before posting.

Have fun

Software / Xmms And Playlist
« on: March 29, 2006, 01:33:40 pm »
Hi All,

I'm running OZ 3.5.4 and using XMMS Embedded.  Everytime I close XMMS (or it happens to shutdown) and then restart, the list of files I had in my playlist is emptied.  Does anyone know of any way to get the playlist to stick?

Thanks!

Ugh, please ignore the previous message.  runcompat, makecompat, etc. are found.  I rebooted and now things are working (zudoku runs after running makecompat on it).

Sorry about being a little impatient in messaging to the forum... =o

Hmm.... well, it seems that something is up.  The install completed but everything was installed to /home/packages/opt/QtPalmtop.compat and not into /home/packages/opt/QtPalmtop.  Also, no links were made between programs or libraries in /home/packages/opt/QtPalmtop.compat when running "ipkg-link add sharp-compat-libs", thus libqpe, runcompat, makecompat, etc. are not linked.

I can link this manually but is that necessary?  Is there something I'm missing in the process of installing this or is this really a bug in the installation?

Thanks,
steven

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Irda Applet - Pocketop
« on: March 26, 2006, 09:52:29 pm »
Hi Lardman,

I'm not sure what renaming the binary is going to do, and still don't know what the irda applet is supposed to do when you use it to enable/disable (is it supposed to kill the irattach process?).

I think I might just go mess with the rc#.d and remove the script from there on startup.

Thanks!
steven

Rename the binary?

Then you can explicitly call it yourself as and when you need to.

Hi All,

I went to install the sharp-compat-libs today on my 5600 with OZ 3.5.4.  I get a postinst error on install, and after looking around for solutions found good information on irongeek.com.  I had to do it a little differently so I thought I'd post it here:

1)cd into /etc/init.d and issue the following command:

touch quickexec

2)I installed to home instead of to root, so ran this:

ipkg install -d home sharp-compat-libs

Because there is a dummy quickexec file, this will succed in installing.

3) go to /etc/init.d and remove the quickexec dummy file

4) issue the following:

ipkg-link add sharp-compat-libs

to link in from home to root.  This will also link in the real quickexec file which all the symlinks installed in the postinst script need to point to.

That's it!  It's not a fix for the package postinst script, but it is a workaround.  Hope that helps!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Zudoku And Oz
« on: March 26, 2006, 09:36:51 pm »
Hi Mickeyl,

Hopefully they'll open the source sometime. I had some issues with the sharp-compat-libs during installation that I had to google around to figure out a solution.  I'm going to post that in another message to keep it separated for others in case they run into the same situation.

Thanks,
steven
(off to try to force zudoku to install  )

Until the authors provide the source code (*cough* GPL *cough* they really need to), you need to try using the compat-libs with zudoku.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Irda Applet - Pocketop
« on: March 26, 2006, 02:41:11 am »
Hi All,

After reading other posts, I got my Pocketop keyboard working with OZ after killing the irattach process.  I was wondering then what the IRDA Applet is supposed to do when you click "Disable IRDA", as it didn't kill irattach, and if irattach isn't killed then the pocketop won't work.

Since I likely won't ever use IR for beaming, what's the best way to disable irattach from running on the Zaurus altogether, but still have the ability to turn it on if one wants to?

Thanks!

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Zudoku And Oz
« on: March 26, 2006, 02:33:23 am »
Hi All,

I converted to OZ from Watapon on my 5600 earlier this week and after the initial couple of days to iron out things I feel like the PDA is now in great shape, running things much snappier and better than it did before for all the software I was using a great deal (KOPI, Opie-Reader). XMMS has been great!

Now I'm trying to find out if anyone has had any luck in installing Zudoku with OZ.  I enjoyed this game very much before installing OZ and would love to have it here as well.  I tried installing using ipkg but didn't know what to do about the qpe-base dependency.

Any help with this would be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
steven
