Zaurus - pdaXrom / Hardware problems with pdaXrom..
« on: December 28, 2004, 07:31:57 pm »
My card is ready, and the cardctl suspend then resume doesnt work.

When dialing I get, /usr/sbin/ppd: unrecongnized option"

and cardctl config gives me Vcc and a large string of #s

Ill just redo the whole process to make sure everythink is right.

Good to know it is working for others!

Hey
has somebody any experiences with the audiovox RTM 8000 and RC8?

Just  want it to call friends and surf over GPRS

Thanks

Denis
I just tried the instrutions here:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/inde...ic=1382&hl=gprs

I had the bad vcc error at first, just like he/she did.

Then I downloaded the sample scripts and edited it for my provider, using vi

tried to connect, but had output of:

defining PDP context...
Connect script failed

So, since i really dont know anything but how to follow instructions, I am at a loss.

I think Laze said there would be a how-to with this card sometime after RC8 release. I guess we wait!

What is the sweet spot for Root size on the c700 now with RC8?

Tried 40MB and got a flash RO system error
Tried 47MB and got a mount error on initial boot

Im trying 42MB now and zeroing in on it, but its taking a while   wondering if someone had this info quicker than my flashing (and juggling my two year old).
on my 750 the recommended 45mb worked.

I also got problems with my wireless CF. Somehow, the profile from the 'Lan & WiFi' utility was not written to /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts, so, when I inserted the card, 'iwconfig' was showing no ESSID.
Same here

The bittorrent idea is a good one. I wanted to propose it too.

Just need a tracker (mean a server to handle the connections between peers) and a few users who won't close their client as soon as their download will end.

Just let us know when the ROM will be availalble. A little delay before the official annonce and ftp upload is enough.

I can't host the tracker because my ip is not static. If pdaXrom can't do it then I can create the bittorrent stream and its tracker but it will be tempory (two days max). Just ask.
you can use http://www.dyndns.org/

they have a free service that will allow your IP to be linked to a free domain link...it solves the problem of not having a static ip

You could order from somewhere in the U.S. and send it to a place that will hold it for you like a UPS store.

6000 - Tosa / Is The Sl-6000l Worth It?

Or would you save another $400 and get the 3000?  I don't know if spending another $400 would be worth it though.  I don't really need 4GB space when I can get enough out of smaller cards.

I just went for c750 for $400 or less off ebay... or you could $500 off pricejapan

Cxx0 Hardware / Kingston Elite Pro High Speed Cards Cf Sd
« on: November 27, 2004, 02:37:33 am »
I was looking at what cf card to buy with my new c750, and saw many here were wondering if kingston elite was a waste of money (due to maybe no support from zaurus). I also found a post from PDAgal that said she reviewed it in pdabuyersguide.com. Here is part of that review:

SD
"I tested it in a Sharp Zaurus C860 for movie playback, which is probably the best test of card speeds in a PDA. Using 3 different video players, I saw no discernable dropped frames and got perfect audio/video sync when playing movies encoded at 300k bit rates. Using standard SD cards, as Zaurus users know, movies do not play smoothly and audio often falls out of sync."

CF
"While Kingston states that read speeds are similar for their standard and Elite cards (both very high at over 6 megs/sec), I found that read speeds were much faster with the Elite Pro card compared to regular CF cards by other manufacturers. Videos encoded at high bitrates (600K) stuttered on my Pocket PC and Zaurus C860 using "regular" cards, while they played perfectly from the Kingston Elite Pro CF card. Write speeds are more than 3x faster on the Elite card (1.5 megs/sec vs. 5.2 megs/sec). Kingston CF cards are fast at reading files from the card (viewing digital photos, playing games)."

...Just in case others do a search for the same reason. -chris
