Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Getting Opie 1.0.3 onto an OZ 3.2 sl5500
« on: August 30, 2004, 06:11:13 am »
Hello, everyone. I accidentally wiped my Zaurus a couple of days ago, and figured I'd use that as an excuse to give OpenZaurus another try.

I noticed that OZ 3.2 installs Opie 0.9.3 as default. I've looked into downloading Opie 1.0.3, but the feed presents me with a bewildering array of packages. I'm guessing (perhaps incorrectly...) that, like 'big-box' Linux, things need to be installed in a certain order? If so, I have no idea what that might be.

Feel free to thwack me if I overlooked any clear documentation on the subject, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

Software / Anybody using KTrove?
« on: August 14, 2004, 08:34:30 pm »
Hmm. In my case, it's like nothing ever happened. I guess I'll have to take a look at editing the script myself. I guess that's under the 'Expert' section of the documentation that I never read.  I know, I know-- RTFM...

Thanks!

Software / Anybody using KTrove?
« on: August 14, 2004, 11:21:25 am »
Hello, everyone. I was wondering if anyone is using Kallisti's Trove to run Z apps from memory cards. I've just started using it, and it _appears_ to be working quite well, though I can't tell how much memory I'm saving by using it. I'm not surprised that the Z doesn't show an increase in available internal storage, since KTrove makes sure the Z 'thinks' that the apps are still in internal memory.

Does anyone know of a way to see what my actual internal memory usage is when KTrove's doing its thing? And, if the Z is convinced that the apps are still in internal memory, doesn't that mean that I'll eventually run out of internal memory when there's still, in fact, plenty left? If that's the case, then I don't really see the point of using KTrove at all, except perhaps to cut down on my already abysmal battery life.

By the way, it's an sl5500, running Sharp ROM 3.13.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sharp ROMs / Made my system tray icons disappear...

[Sharp ROM v3.13]

Hello, everyone. I did something very stupid, and now I\'m missing applets from my 5500\'s system tray (for lack of a better term; please correct me if necessary) and can\'t figure out how to get them back.

I had been using the applet-monitor and subapplet applets (for those who are unfamiliar, the subapplet extends the system tray, adding a second line of applet icons which pops up when an arrow icon is pressed in the \"standard\" system tray). To give myself more room on the standard system tray, I moved the volume applet onto the subapplet tray. Well, I managed to move the activation icon for the subapplet tray onto the subapplet tray itself, preventing me from invoking the thing. When I realized my error, I tried uninstalling applet-monitor and subapplet, but all the icons I had in the subapplet tray are still gone-- including system volume, which I wish to mute altogether.

Reboots and restarts haven\'t helped, and I\'d hate to have to full-reset the Z for such a silly thing. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated; thanks very much in advance.
