Sharp ROMs / SL 5500 TCK ROM 2.0 Aplha 3 with Home on SD script

sirhc7,

I believe that you type prep-home-sd.sh -i to return to defaults.

Now whether that takes you back to a blank state, I do not know; but I had read that in derekp's initial explanation.

I agree with all the interface issues with Qpsword...

I would add this one:
Ability to change font color...the green is almost unreadable in some lighting situations.

General Discussion / Who are you and where are you from?
« on: March 18, 2005, 11:31:05 pm »
Hello... Doug from Erie PA USA
52 yr old Presbyterian minister.
I've used my 5500 since Sept 01, mostly for notetaking during meetings, augmented by that wonderful Targus keyboard and to IRK (yeah Craig!) or to keep me from missing appointments. (almost switched over to KDE-PIM (yeah zautrix)  Even used the Z this week during a funeral, reading from qpsword.

I am still using windo$e in my PC's, but am easing my way into Linux, since getting wind of the open source community through Star Office 5.0 and openoffice.org (since May 2001).
I have dual booted with ASPLinux 7.2, knoppix, kanotix, slax,  beatrix and yoper, but still not comfortable with anyone of them!

My 5500 is pretty stock, with only a 512 SD and 512 CF running Cracko's 5500 rom, "home-built" battery extender.

But it really has been this community that has made the Z worth it all!

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Kernel For Sl-5500/5000d

Just so you don't misunderstand, everything is working, the third time around, because I have NOT installed KDEPIM 1.9.16!

My problems with 1.9.16 may be more a conflict with  Cacko on my 5500.
The following has happened twice.

After installing the korganizer and kaddressbook (and associated files) they both work fine, all the items, dates, contacts are in place.

The next time I opened korganizer notice some of the entries are missing. I closed and clicked again on the korganizer icon, the hourglass appears, and disappears, but korganizer does not appear. (The first time I did this, and continued to repeat this, eventually I could not reboot my Z. I would get to the Cacko opening screen asking for root password or Control-D to continue. (and neither worked anyway.  This led to a reformat of my SD and reinstallation. My second attempt when I saw korganizer and kaddressbook fail to open, I just quickly uninstalled them to save the system. Backups are wonderful, BTW!)

The second time through korganizer was also doing other flaky things. Even though global change of time to 12 hour system, some events (whether editing old or making new) might have 24 hour time in the beginning time slot and 12 hour time in the ending time slot.

For the particulars, running Cacko kernel 64-0 for 5500 on my 512meg Lexar SD. It was stable until installing 1.9.16.

I just re-formatted my SD and reflashed.

Everything back to normal!  Luckily I had recently backed up!

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Kernel For Sl-5500/5000d

Hey everyone, anyone

I have been using the new Caclko 64-0 kernel with my 5500 and enjoying it, esp. the battery app.
I installed the 1.9.1.6 KDE-PIM and whoops!
I first noticed that I no longer had any ipks listed in the uninstall area. and any later installed programs never had their icons change (or show up as installed or uninstallable.)

KDE-PIM would not start either. So I re-booted.

Still had the no-show in the install-uninstall lists....so I decided to flash Cacko again.

And now, after reset, I am getting same message as earthcoder reported. along with saying that I can do normal start with Control-D.
Well, all the key combinations in the world just bring me back to the prompt; as do any further resets.

I have reflashed several more times, but the same result upon restart.

Any suggestions?

5x00 Hardware / Can this battery be made to work with the 5500?
« on: January 08, 2005, 01:22:41 am »
Thanks to all of you on this thread. Finally built my own AA extender, thanks V-Man.  I used some different parts, but it satisfied my needs. And I have some new 2500 batteries. Last 4 - 5 hours depending on light power.

I am not brave enough to try the other ideas (se "custom battery pack") using the Sony and other brand li-ons, but the apparent success is interesting.

Software / KDE-Pim/Pi 1.9.10 Release
« on: December 15, 2004, 02:21:08 am »
zautrix...

Thanks for your on-going work!
I haven't tried your KDE Pim for a while, as it loaded too slowly on my TKC rom 5500.
I have since upgraded to 512 SD and newest Cacko ROM.
Now your korg 1.9.3 is almost as quick as calendar.  kaddressbook, however....

I am still getting used to it, so I don't know if some irregularities were of my doing.
I did notice that after importing my Sharp DTM, my two longest reoccurring events were not there. Since they are also on Tuesday evenings (first and second), while all other reoccurring events on other days were reported. Other than this, the importing was also more accurate than in the past  e.g. events show up on the correct day and correct time.

Accessories / Camera Battery In A Zaurus?
« on: December 08, 2004, 01:26:13 pm »
I had spied these in local Best Buy.
Salesperson suggested that the battery case could be opened and poles switched to the position the Z would require.

Anyone willing to try?

Hey doug...

I agree with vputz and others about trying a CD based or lived CD version first.
I have looked at Knoppix, Kanotix (get these at knoppix.com and kanotix.com) and Yoper (Yoper is NOT live CD however.)
all are pleasing distros in many ways. They all recognize my hardware and have all the software that I would need. However, my trouble is with my Canon printer. I have not been able to find a suitalbe driver for it (an i850.) So while my 333 mHz celeron ran very happily with all these distros, my home setup is not ready for it yet!

God Bless
Doug

projekt...

We are going to have to stop meeting like this!

go to the download section of this site, and go to the ROM's section.
There are quite a few non-Sharp roms that exclude many of the items you wish to delete. (Some add other linux tools also.)

BTW, what is ZGCC?

Sharp ROMs / tkcRom 1.0 vs 2.0 alpha?

Violator has done a good job of the differences. although for me, I found 2.0 faster than 1.0 I have been very happy with it, and have not experienced the problem that violator shares.

God Bless

Accessories / SD to CF Adaptor for the Zaurus 5500?
« on: April 09, 2004, 02:03:53 pm »
Genki...

Two ways:
1  transfer to your CF card, replace camera SD with Z SD, then move from CF to SD (but why not keep them on the CF?)
2  purchase an SD reader, plug into your PC, transfer to PC, take out camera\'s SD and replace with Z SD, transfer pics from PC to SD and then return the SD to Z
