Could be a problem with the card or with the CF slot. To rule out the second, plug another card on the slot and see what happens.

CF slot is fine with normal cf  memory card.
So, if no one has any suggestions, guess the wifi card is cream crackered!?!?!

Okay so my Z isn't picking up the card properly again.

I insert the card & the CF icon comes up.
cardctl status shows:
socket 0:
  3.3V 16-bit PC Card
  function 0: [ready]

However, the wlan globe doesn't come up in the tool bar.
Also, cardctl ident shows:
socket 0:
  no product info available.

So does anyone have any ideas or know how to force the Z to ident the wifi card?

Thanks for anything you can offer.

What's the exact model of your card? it's strange the world icon is not showing. The card should have been automatically recognized.

There should be an option in the network setting on the Zaurus for ad-hoc. You didn't mention that, but otherwise I don't see where something might be wrong.

Felipe
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=102746\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The exact model is D-Link DCF-660W

and the card is set to ad-hoc under the config tab in the network settings.

I managed to get the globe up for a while.  It would seem I have dodgy card as it's not always picked up (

However, when it does get picked up, running 'dmesg' seems to show that the prism2_cs module (drivers?) isn't being loaded / initalised!?!?  See my note above regarding this / output.  So this is worrying!

Leave Kismet aside. It won't help you at this stage. Have you configured the network via the Network applet in the Settings tab? If yes, please post what you entered. Without this information and without more details on the PC side, we can't help you.

Hi jfv

first off, thanks for the reply.  It's much appreciated.

Yes I used the network wizard to 'configure' the card.
The settings I chose were / are:

choose to add a new wireless lan. The various info under the tabs is:

Account: changes name to 'myWLAN'
Config: non-spec ESS-ID "Any" checked (I also tried setting this to my network name of the wifi card in my PC ie. 'homeWLAN')
WEP: 40bit, wep key = the one I set for my PC wifi card = mnbvc, authentication = open system.
TCP/IP: obtain tcp/ip info automatically
DNS: obatin auto.
Proxy: no proxy.

I didn't set up e-mail.

The setting for the card on PC are:
obtain ip address & dns auto
ssid (greyed out, but reads) homeWLAN
network authentication: open
data encryption:WEP
network key= 5 chars mnbvc

So hope this info helps you to make any suggestion.

I tried removing the wifi card from my Z and then replacing it.
Now I'm not seeing the world icon with red cross & cardctl ident shows no product info available!

Do I need to manually start the card somehow, or should it be picked up automatically?

Anyway, thanks for any help that's offered.

Cheers

Siggy

Okay so I did a 'cardctl ident' and got back infosaying:

socket 0:
product info:"d-link", "dcf-660w", ""
manfid: 0xd601, 0x0005
function:6 (network)

'dmesg' gave me:
.....lots of stuff......
init-module: prism2_cs.o: 0.1.12-shp loaded
init-module:dev_info is: prism2_cs
prism2_cs: GetNextTuple: no more items
prism2sta_config: NextTuple failure? It's probably a Vcc mismatch.
prism2sta_event prism2_cs: Initialisation failed!

I got these 2 commands out of threads on here.
Don't really know waht I'm doing.

It would seem that my Z is picking up the card but then failing to initialise it!??!?

Can anyone offer advice as to what's going on or any links to Linux / wifi 'how to's' so I can attempt to learn?

Anyway, I'll keep trawling throught he forums / threads here and see if I can stumble on through to a solution.

Thanks in advance

Hi Guys

I have a 5500 and a just got a d-link air cf wifi card.
I've just upgraded my rom to sharp 3.1.

When I try to connect the card to the network, it's led flashes but it never connects.
I installed kismet, but it just comes back with 'can't connect to server'.

I'm trying to connect to my PC which has a wifi card in ad-hoc mode & broadband connection.
I can connect to my PC via a lap-top and then out to the internet, which is what I'm trying to do with the zaurus.

I'm no network or linux guru, I used the network wizard to set the network up, but I'm obviously doing something wrong!

Can anyone with more networking knowledge than me (not hard to do) offer any help or advice?

When I connect am I connecting to a specific network or is it supposed to give me options of networks it finds in the ether?

Cheers and thanks for any help in advance

Python / Deleting Qcanvasitem
« on: January 12, 2005, 07:41:40 am »
Hi All

I finally found the answer to this by entering 'delete QCanvasItem' in google & then going to the FAQ at 'http://www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk/pyqt/faq.php'

Who'd of guessed it would be that simple

here's the answer for those interested:-

How do I delete a QCanvasItem?

QCanvasItem instances are owned by their parent QCanvas so that even if you delete the Python object, the underlying C++ instance still exists. The solution is to use the QCanvasItem.setCanvas() method and pass None as the parameter. If you then delete the Python object, the underlying C++ instance will also be destroyed.

Python / Deleting Qcanvasitem
« on: January 06, 2005, 06:11:18 am »
Okay, so the code I showed dosn't seem to work!?!?!?

When I delete items the count of items on the canvas keeps going up.
Ie, first time I delete, 48 items are found on the canvas & 'deleted', next time 96 items found on the canvas, etc.  So the del(item) doesn't seem to be deleting the item from the canvas!

This seems ridiculous!
You can add Items to a canvas, you can then hide or show them, but you cann't pysically delete or remove them from a canvas!?!  Surely not!

Oh, well...
So only way I could get it to work as I'd anticipated it (ie, delete 48 items was to delete & create the QCanvas - as you suggested  )

Still, I can't believe I cann't manage to delete an Item(s) from off the Canvas!?!?

Hi Kopsis

thanks for the reply.

I found the del() method, so......

Code: [Select]
items = self.canvas.allItems()
        for item in items:
            item.hide()
            del(item)    # this is what I needed

....does the trick.

As you suggest, I will look at the scale option as well, as this must be more efficient than deleting & recreating canvas items...... anyway I'll save that for later.

As I'm wanting to keep the GO board (with a constant aspect ratio) in the centre of the CanvasView (which may have a changed aspect ratio), I'll also need to recalc the placement of the Canvas items.

Obviously as I'm just starting out with both Python & PyQt I'll make / am making loads of mistakes   But hopefully attempting to create this small GO / sgf viewer app is giving me a good learning platform.

Thanks again for the reply, it's much appreciated

Python / Deleting Qcanvasitem

Hi Guys

I've got a GO game board drawing to a QCanvasView using QCanvasPolyItems.
When I want to redraw the board (on resize event, etc) I think I'll need to delete all the items on the canvas & redraw them to the new sizes.  [I guess I could scale them, but anyway...].

So my question is how do you delete a QCanvasItem from a QCanvas?

I know I can get a list of items on the canvas with the allItems() member func, but I can seem to find a delete or clear type func for the QCanvasItem.

Cheers

Python / Problem With Code
« on: December 22, 2004, 05:48:07 am »
Hi Guys

many thanks for the help, I'll implement both right now.

What documentation are you guys using?
I ask because the documentation that came with pyQt (ie. pyQt.html) states that
'QTextView (Qt v2+)
QTextView is fully implemented.'
So if my documentation is wrong, where can I /where did you get a correct set?

Many thanks again for your help.  It's much appreciated.

Python / Problem With Code
« on: December 21, 2004, 07:21:55 am »
Hi Guys

just a quick question.

I've got a GUI up & running on windows & it seems to (generally) work on the Z.

I've got a QCanvasView on a tab and I'm trying to get the size of it.
Anyway, I get the size and I'm printing it to a QTextView window I have in the same app (located below the QCanvasView).
The text seems to be being printed to the QTextView window okay, but the VScrollBar isn't allowing me to scroll down to see the whole of the text on the Z!!  The scroll bar & app seem to be working okay when being run on windows.

I tried using 'updateScrollBars()' after printing the text, but no joy.

Any ideas

Cheers

Pete

PS.  I've attached the app files I'm working on.
PPS.  Go easy, it's my first Python app - so I'm trying to learn Python & pyQt at the same time plus it's still early days in the dev

Ashikaze

Thanks for the link.
I tried it, but it wouldn't launch on my 5500.
The link did show 'Zaurus sl-c760', so maybe that's the reason!?!?

So I guess I'll keep looking.

Anyway, thanks again.

Hi All

Seems the path env setting wasn't quite correct for the qt for win dll.
Just removed the quotes from around the path & BINGO.

All now seems to work

Python / Okay Got It Up & Running
« on: December 14, 2004, 11:36:30 am »
Hi Guys

hope someone might be able to help me with a small problem.

I started in on the 'GUI Programming with Python: QT Edition' book.

I installed python2.3.4, qt for windows, and pyqt. Didn't install BlackAdder!
Anyway, all seemed to go okay here.

So I tried the first few code samples and all was well until I tried the first qt based Hello World program.

The line 'from qt import *' in Hello1.py seems to be causing the problem, as I assume python cann't find the module 'qt' to import all the functions / classes.

I tried copying all the .pyd files (including qt.pyd) from the 'lib/site-packages' in the qtwin install dir to the 'site-packages' dir in my python install dir.  I then ran site.py in the python idle to make sure that the paths were okay, which they seemed to be. (not sure if these .pyd files are the qt for windows python modules, but it seemed likely whilst I was grabbing at straws  ).
Alas, the Hello World prog is still stuck at the same import line, so this didn't work.

So can anyone offer any advice in getting this up and running?

Cheers

Siggy
