5x00 General discussions / Gprs/bluetooth. Does It Use Up Minutes?
« on: January 16, 2006, 06:01:21 pm »
It's 5.99 for unlimited gprs connections through t-mobile. They have specific plans for blackberries and sidekicks, but that includes text messaging and instant messenger features (but, if you have java, you can use agilient - completely off topic).

I didn't see this posted anywhere (or I'm blind). I'm not appreciative of them bashing the 5500, but it is what it is.

Cwaig, from previous topics I understand that you made the pocketop driver - if I were to rebuild from source, what would that entail?

This is the one I purchased.

Modifying the source... hrm... interesting. I wonder if the effort is truly worth it...

Well, wow. This is tragic. No one has experience with this keyboard?

How's IRK support under OZ? No time like the present to take it for a spin, I suppose... I do like that on the fly rotation... That'd be nice with wireless + Opera...

Since it is accepting some sort of input, I'm thinking it isn't the battery... though I'm not sure... it's laying right on the IR port of the keyboard, haven't had a chance yet to fabricate a mirror.

I found the irk.conf, but that's not of much help. Does anyone know where the actual mapping file might be located?

pocketop's website indicates they have a driver for $13... which is quite odd, for charging for a driver on top of the hardware cost (offset eBay? who knows). But I have little faith when the spelling on the ticket is downright awful...

Under Opie/OZ, is IRK better? I keep seeing a belkin driver, but it's in reference to OZ; any ideas if there's such a driver for the sharp rom?

I also tried the python driver, though that didn't work out so well since the referenced python files are no longer available - I did follow the link and downloaded python-core, but no response, no output, nada.

It's never easy on the Z, is it?

5x00 General discussions / Micro Innovations Keyboard...help!

Hello all,

I just recently purchased the Micro Innovations tkb750u keyboard, and I'm having a bit of an issue with it.

I'm running the tkcROM 2.0 Alpha (from this site) and installed the irk driver .11, .05 and .10 in that order (trying to see if this was across all drivers) - when I pick the pocketop irk, every time I press a key it'll either enter a key that isn't mapped correctly repeatedly OR it'll stop the previous action. For instance I'll hit 'k' and it'll repeat 'k', if I hit L it'll repeat a dash (-), and if I hit shift it'll stop the insanity.

When I switch to the targus control it'll enter 41 for every key I press. Though it won't repeat.

Anyone heard of this? Is this a matter of keyboard mapping? Or is this something else entirely? As far as I can tell the keyboard was brand new, no issues, factory condition, but I can't tell what the heck is making it go crazy.

Any and all help would be appreciated!

5x00 General discussions / Sync 5500 To Linux
« on: May 13, 2005, 09:27:05 pm »
http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/12/jk_zaurus_usb.html

I followed this guide, and it seemed to work well. I have a SuSE 9.2 setup, and having followed the steps to a T, it worked perfectly.

Now, I couldn't get it to work with Qtopia 1.7 - I'm using Ko/Pi and Ka/Pi which is a much easier sync solution (as I understand it, Qtopia 1.7 does NOT work with the default sharp roms - I'm using tkcRom 2.0 Alpha).

Though if you're using one of the OZ roms, it should work ok.

To access the zaurus once you get these connections issue squared away, you just need to go to smb://zaurus (correct me if I'm wrong for OZ roms). It should auto mount with Samba (in theory).

Sharp ROMs / Where's The Latest Thekompany Rom

I'm not certain whether this particular rom will work with the 5600, but I feel as though I read that it does indeed work. Your mileage may vary.

5x00 General discussions / Wireless Sync
« on: March 05, 2005, 03:44:49 am »
I followed this guide twice, as in I tried once and then had to reformat, then tried again on the fresh rom (TKC 2.0 Alpha, latest sync software).

I'd run synchronize, at which point both the software the Z would go into the sync screen, and then it'd quit with an error 'unable to communicate' or some such.

I'm not sure why it gets to the point where both are communicating then it bottoms out.

The wireless card on the PC is set to 192.168.1.1
The Zaurus is set to 192.168.1.5
And the software is set to USB-TCP/IP 192.168.1.5
The PC Link app on the zaurus is set to USB-TCP/IP 192.168.1.5

From the guide, I think this is right?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hentges Questions
« on: February 17, 2005, 12:29:04 am »
I just wanted to verify the software downloaded from here will work with the latest Hentges ROM in terms of synchronization...
http://myzaurus.com/ROMupdate3.asp

It's for 2.37 I believe, I'm not sure if it makes a difference that it's not 2.38...

Also, does the file browser handle the ext2 format? Work requires Windows XP and I can't run Linux, even Knoppix.

As an aside, what web browser do most use for OZ/Hentges? I can't find Konqueror on the list of installable programs...

Thanks in advance.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / General Questions About Oz
« on: January 29, 2005, 01:13:42 pm »
Thanks so much for your responses. It's been very helpful. I've flashed the Z with Tkc2.0, and after backing that up, I'm going to give this a go. Hopefully it works!

Thanks again.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / General Questions About Oz
« on: January 28, 2005, 07:24:23 am »
1) Is there a similar arrow ala tkcRom in OZ that allows you to increase the space of the taskbar, and move unwanted (or infrequently used) icons to be hidden away, and accessed when necessary? I hate the clutter, and really love that feature in tkcRom.

2) I've read quite a bit on the compat-libs, and the like, and how they're needed to run apps like Hancom. I've gone through as many threads as possible, but I'm still not certain - can hancom apps v1.5 run on OZ?

3) If I chose a 64-0 setup, and used a 64MB SD, would there be issues running apps? i.e., Opera, which I've noted doesn't 'like' running from the SD?

4) What is the frequency of crashing under OZ?

5) How much faster is OZ than tkcRom Alpha 2.0?

6) Hancom aside (since the Zaurus *is* for work), games like Motocross don't work, I take it? Or has this issue been resolved?

7) How does installing over feeds work, exactly?

8) The last time I used OZ, which was 10 minutes with 3.5.2, the wallpaper disappeared after I looked at the style settings (I didn't change anything) and couldn't figure out how to bring it back. Does that happen often, and how do you fix that?

9) Again, after using it 10 minutes, I couldn't for the life of me, figure out why the doctab wouldn't bring up my documents on my SD card. Does the card need to be formatted for a certain filesystem?

Again, thanks for answering the questions. Having used OZ, my initial impression was 'wow!'. I love the on the fly screen rotation, and the overall presentation is very slick. However, it threw me that the wallpaper disappeared and the doctab didn't work in such a short period of time. And, it didn't like the feed I tried (the official OZ feed - I probably did something wrong). If there is a place where all this is listed, please let me know and I'll figure it out on my own - I went hunting for an FAQ but found none.

Thanks!

Software / Scummvm And An Sl-5500
« on: December 14, 2004, 03:36:50 pm »
On a hunch I tried it rotated, and it worked! But very slowly.

So, I then rotated it the opposite direction, where the terminal fonts were backwards and unreadable, but the game(s) ran flawlessly.

Now I need to figure out why the rotation fonts are messed up when rotated 90ccw.

I also noted the zug has its own feed, so that's settled as well.

Thanks!
