Accessories / Replacement Stylus
« on: August 05, 2005, 07:10:17 am »
Hello all,

My SL-5500 stylus snapped.  now the place where I live, it is not avaliable, neither the tungsten one. So I was wondering are there cheap alternative to the original?

I was thinking of buying SE P900 Stylus, but not sure if it will work.

PS: Ordering from else where worldwide seems to be to 2 costly.

I often run my zaurus in landscape mode because I find it more pleasant to look it.
How do you run in Landscape mode using stock ROM?

My idea is to get a broken revo, dismantle, somehow power the keyboard processingy bit of the revo motherboard (dunno if thats possible), and hook that up to an IR LED. Then modify IRK to use those signals.
I was thinking on similar lines but my idea was to use Sharp Wizard OZ-730 PDA as keyboard, but if I build a serial keyboard I can't access internet using my mobile since it would be also via serial

Or can I use 2 serial devices at a same time? Any idea?

The SL5500 does not have USB Hosting facilities,

I understand that so that is reason I was wondering if I can convert the USB to serial and interface it to the Z
Something on similar line
http://www.waspbarcode.com/barcode_accesso...l_converter.asp

The problem is that you have USB Bluetooth dongle but no serial port dongles

I managed to pick up one for about £15 inc P+P on ebay,   so they do exist

Unfortunately I am in India where getting shipped some where from EU or US is going to cost me as good as the price of the used product

5x00 Hardware / Serial Cable For 5500
« on: June 17, 2005, 04:32:20 am »
Hello all,

I got my Zaurus connector from Fivestar.

Before I jump to build my serial cable this weekend, I would like to know whether just a pin mapping will suffice or do I have to build a circuit to do the logic translation?

I plan to use this cable to connect to serial port of CDMA phone and regular sync work

Windows Issues / Beam Receive Speed

So you divide by 8 to get kilobytes per second (14 KB/s). Add in the fact that IrDA is half duplex - only one side transmits data at a time, lighting conditions and positioning of the devices can degrade the link quality, and also that the IrDA protcol has some overhead then, in practice, you probably only get about 7 KB/ s transferred. Getting 9.6K is quite good if you've achieved it!

I was planning to get any Ir phone for internet access but I guess I will drop it now.

BTW is Zaurus Irda Half Duplex or the my Irda adapter? I am using MA-620 USB Irda adapter.

Hello all,

What speed under beam receive does the Zaurus Irda work?
Under Windows XP it shows connected at 115K but the actual file transfer happens at 9.6 K

Windows Issues / Crashing Qtopia
« on: May 18, 2005, 10:19:44 am »
Hi all,

I am been facing strange problem

When ever I am trying to do a large file transfer or multiple file transfer (Mp3's) the Qtopia desktop keeps on crashing and I have to restart the transfer.

I am not sure if this a problem Qtopia. If it is is there a fix for it.

I am using stock kernel 2.39 on my Sl-5500.

« on: May 17, 2005, 06:02:20 am »
Hi all,

I attempted to install VLC for zaurus from the VideoLan Homepage
zaurus-libsdl_1.2.5 and zaurus-vlc_0.5.4 installed great but the other libs i.e librt_2.1.3_arm.ipk and libffmpeg_0.4.6 failed with the error "ostinst: /sbin/ldconfig: not found"

I am using the stock 2.39 version of ROM
