6000 - Tosa / Who has a 6000?
« on: January 27, 2005, 02:43:33 am »
Received mine on Christmas eve of 2005; how memorable, huh ? )

Paid with lots of moolah to get it imported all the way from Missouri to Singapore (excluding import tax). Was it worth all this hassles, logistics, etc.,. ?????

You BET! Every single cent of it (including the bloody tax)! I'm already doing wonders with it (besides j2me development on-the-fly), I'm using it for my moonlighting adventures in infosec.

Had all my Tungsten-toting colleagues envious when I showed them how to interface from a simple 512MB usb thumbdrive to my 40GB external 2.5" drive, all via the courtesy of the mini-USB port of the Z6K.

Am I happy? VERY satisfied. Since obtaining it, I've been accessorizing my Z6K.
What I'm lacking still is the expansion sleeve (really ex for someone who doesn't get paid in USD)!

Long live the Z6K (altho it has been discontinued by Sharp Corp.)!

Whoa! That's really cool....

Wonder what the NASA team does with the Zaurus up and round the orbit?

6000 - Tosa / Keyboards?
« on: January 26, 2005, 02:49:56 am »
I'm writing now on a Jetion AL-2199 (made in China) keyboard. Most keys on the Debian and Qt are mapped correctly except for a couple of the function keys.

The size of the Jetion keybd is almost the same as the PSK-3100U or just sloghtly smaller once placed on landscape mode for a Z6K (like it was mentioned, the USB port is unfortunately at the bottom).

The Jetion costs me SGD 18 bucks at the Challenger superstore in Funan Center, SG.

Well, without a doubt, the Fellowes foldable keyboard looks really cool. But at USD 70 bucks...hmmm....

Deals and Great Z Buys / Where To Get 6000?
« on: January 26, 2005, 02:14:34 am »
Yes, the Z6K rocks from a high! Not to mention that the USB connectivity allows me to (right now) type on an external USB keyboard (the IR pocketop seemes to need some "special" little angle), and swap it later with my 2.5" 40GB external hard disk drive. Nothing rocks supremo like this!

Well, of course, it costs me a chunk of my paycheque to get it shipped from Missouri to Singapore (plus additional 50bucks for taxes!!). But is it worth it??

the answer: TOTALLY, down to every single cent!!! There's no where near any current linux-based PDA that can afford me do all kinds of magic with this baby, especially if you're into infosec!

The 6000 does have the better screen.  It is a 4" screen as opposed to the clamshell's 3.7" screen.  The 6000's screen is also transflective (reflective enough to be more viewable with direct sunlight) while the clamshells are transmissive (Not as good in sunlight).  The sl-c3000 is the only other zaurus with usb host natively, but the others can make use of a usb host cf card (RATOC?)

BTW the extra cf slot you spoke of is part of an expansion sleeve which is now harder to find because amazon has sold out their stock.

General Discussion / Zaurus Hacks Book
« on: January 18, 2005, 03:35:59 am »
z4ck / Kev,

I've also got your book bought online from your site. Very interesting so far!!

I can't wait for the Zaurus Hacks to come out!

By the way, if you're planning on the topic of war-driving/bussing/walking, you may want to include the part on how to extend the signal range for an external antenna (for real pen tests work), just like the one started by David at http://www.biancorama.com/zaurus-sec/zauru...enna_howto.html

Wonderful work Kev! Keep it up!

Cheers from folks in S'pore!

6000 - Tosa / Kismet on the 6000
« on: January 18, 2005, 02:32:23 am »
Sure thing! However, bearing in mind the chassis-fit and portability of the device on the Z6K, it wouldn't look too pretty but definitely a signal-puller monster once you have this setup like what David did :
http://www.biancorama.com/zaurus-sec/zauru...enna_howto.html

I've ordered my set and got the same 12dBi Yagi but didn't realize that it was so HUGE! Also remember to get a second battery pack as wi-fi sucks up lotsa juice!

Have fun!

I wonder if there's a way to increase the SL-6000L's antenna strength? I've noticed its personally not the strongest around...

Problem is that it is an internal antenna.  Works fine around the house but not the best for long range.

I know there are a few folks who have taken their 6000s apart.  Any ideas for a better antenna setup?

Singapore/Malaysia / GST/tax for overseas shipments to Singapore
« on: January 03, 2005, 10:41:39 pm »
OKie, I just received an invoice from UPS to pay the GST; in ttl it's SGD 51.85
But no, ICA released my Z6K and mine was delivered without any hassle (only hassle was to PAY for the GST).

My Z6K came from the States. Price declared was USD500. Sigh...

Singapore/Malaysia / Where to buy the Zaurus C series in Singapore?
« on: December 23, 2004, 11:28:17 pm »
pricejapan.com has one of the coolest price (I think around 60,500 yen without shipping for a SL-C3000) around this region. However, unless you're a Japanese or somebody who knows japanese, you may need them to convert the OS to English.

A pal of mine who checked this out in tokyo last week told me that if they rip the OS into English, it would also rip the warranty!!! I don't how true is this but how ironic, no?

Singapore/Malaysia / where can i buy a zarus in singapore?
« on: December 23, 2004, 11:23:19 pm »
I just received my SL6000 from St Louis, Missouri. Bought over the Net (lotsa trust but the dude's cool!).

The package arrived by UPS with every module intact (within a week with expedited shipping).

Get to know the buyer before plonking down your moolah. My seller is a Zaurii expert who knows the ins and outs of the pmt. You'll know he'll want to help if he's a Zaurii evangelist.

Somehow, I don't trust Romanian sellers (no disrespek there tho!).
