C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko 3k Usage Poll
« on: November 28, 2005, 12:52:16 am »
Well I was reading this post today and want to change things up on my Z, so I figured what the hell, as someone else put, I would never be fully ready to do it.  So I did, and I am happy.  Its very sharp looking, and works well.  I think for the heck of it, you might want to post the reasons why the cacko ROM is better than the sharp install.  I really didnt know before i installed it, and cant say I know all of the reasons now either.  Just maybe something...other than that....VERY happy user here

I am quite happy using KO/Pi - it does everything and it stores it all as an ical file, great for moving around.

As far as I know you can only do it from a CF card....no other way I have been told.  Might be worth getting a 64MB one or something....thats what I used...bought it for cheap....worked like a charm.

If you want to connect to your windows shares from the Z, you need the client. I don't need to this - I just want a way of moving files easily so I just use the samba server (smbd) on the Z and connect to it from linux or windows (running in vmware of course  ).

All you need to do is adapt the config file (on my Zaurus it's /hdd2/usr/lib/samba/smb.conf). There's loads of info on the web to show how to do this. Once you bring it up, you should be able to use smbmount from your linux desktop to mount the share(s) on the Z.

From my linux machine, if I connect the USB cable, I can issue the following command in the network bar of konquerer:

smb://192.168.129.201

And I see everything, but now i want to mount that into a folder...so in terminal, under su I issue:

mount //192.168.129.201/home/ /media/zaurus/ <I have the /media/zaurus/ folder made>

and I get this:

Password: <I press enter>
Anonymous login successful
27021: tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.)

When I looked at the smb.conf, IMHO i dont think anything needs to be changed....i can see it through konquerer so i should take a mount command just the same...no?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Just lookin at that last link, all I should have to install for a standalone PIM would be the main program and the alarm plugin...correct?  The rest of the stuff is for syncing...

The best way to get around it is to install the kde pim pi apps.  They allow for custom sounds.  The sharp app alarm sound is built into the kernel.  There is no way to get around it.

Do you have a link to this program?

If anyone uses the alarms in the calendar knows...the alarm is weak!  I searched high and low to find the wav file or whatever so i can rename/delete and replace with whatever i want.

I havnt found the place for that yet, so if anyone could point me in the right direction, please let me know.  Its downright annoying if you ask me

Installing smbclient on my SL-C3000 was one of the first things I did and it wrecked it alright. It worked fine until I rebooted and then it wouldn't come up anymore. I had to restore to original (Japanese) state.

I use smbd instead and mount from my linux desktop which works fine.

Cheers,
Ben

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Screen Short? Script Problem?
« on: December 27, 2004, 02:56:23 am »
I just purchased a C3000 and love it.  Its the most eye appealing toy i carry.  I purchased it off Dynamism but only have one problem.

After i have the unit turned off, I turn it back on and the screen backlight doesnt always come on.  The screen is on, but you can only see the black outline of what is on the screen and its very VERY impossible to do anything with it.  I have to reset the device in order for it to work.  I contacted Dynamism and they said it was something to do with the script that it reads when the device turns on.  They told me that a restore of an original backup would corrent this.   I tried that from a file they provided and it seemed to work for about a day and then it went right back to causing the same problem.

Now the problem is not to do with using the AC adaptor, of the compact flash, as i have had it work and not work with any combination.  Can anyone lead me to find out what is wrong with this, as the most time I need the darn thing is when I turn it on to find out that i need to reset it...not the most fun i have had.

Thanks
