Software / Abiword...
« on: August 03, 2007, 04:41:13 am »
Even worse - on Cacko, downloaded from Meanie's site the following two IPKs (ie. from http://zaurus.daemons.gr/menaie/feed/)

abiword_2.0.0_armv5tel.ipk
libglade_2.0.1-1_armv5tel.ipk

Doesn't work.  After "ipkg install" on the two above, running "abiword" throws an error loading libglade-2.0.so.0.  No link appears in the Applications folder either.

I'm assuming I have the wrong IPKs for Cacko.  Thanks to anyone who can point me to the right ones.  I can understand Abiword/ODT not working on the Zaurus, but at least Abiword alone should work.

Software / Abiword...
« on: August 03, 2007, 04:24:53 am »
I naively thought it should be possible to use Abiword on the Zaurus to edit ODT files.  Apparently it is not.

- Cacko only supports Abiword 2.0.0, which does not do ODT.

- Angstrom appears to have Abiword 2.4.5, but is unusable for non-expert users (just tried to install Angstrom on my C1000 this morning and failed miserably).

If anyone knows of any way to get Abiword/ODT working, do let me know.

Thanks

Software / Cacko 1.23 And Other Software?
« on: July 31, 2007, 04:10:23 am »
- As far as I can tell from looking at the Cacko sites including Tyrannozaurus and Narod.ru, the only place you can download Cacko 1.23 for the SL-C1000 is now:

http://www.zaurus.org.uk/download/cacko-1.23/

But the "standard" Cacko 1.23 on this site is only 1MB while the "lite" version is 19MB!!  What is going on?

- Also, can anyone help me find Abiword 2.2.8+ (ie. with ODT support) and necessary dependencies?  Meanie's setup seems to be for 2.0.0.  I found a PdaXrom version but it doesn't seem compatible with Cacko.

- Anyone who has a solid, current howto for kismet on stock Cacko, I'd be very grateful.  I've searched the forums and found tons of people having trouble, and a few pointers, but no reliable looking solutions.

Thanks for any pointers!

Accessories / Usb Stowaway Keyboard Keymapping Script
« on: November 20, 2006, 09:27:01 am »
Does anyone have any news about this?

Naively I imagine there are two steps:

1. create a keymapping for the Stowaway
2. do something to load and unload it when the keyboard is plugged in

Any other suggestions or comments welcome.  Right now I still reach over and type some things directly on the Z, and there are quite a few others I need to think hard to remember where they are on a Japanese keyboard, which seems quite unnecessary (shift-7 for a single quote, for example!)

Thanks
Rohan

Just a quick bump.  Has anyone done the remapping for that keyboard?  I've been thinking of buying one.

I understand that it doesn't have an escape key.. can I remap another key combination to send an escape?

Sharp ROMs / Web Development On Z
« on: January 30, 2006, 03:11:57 am »
I'd also be interested to know if anyone has MySQL running under Cacko or Sharp ROMs.  Searches of the internet and forums haven't turned up anything obvious.

Thanks

Hi all.

I'm a web developer and have managed to do some work on my Z860 in the past using the apache1.3 & mysql 3.2 software installed on cacko 1.22

Times move on and i've upgraded to cacko 1.23 lite and was looking to continue developing sites on my Z. I have found apache2-php5-mysqlclient in the package feed and installed it, that works fine.
So I set off to look for a recent version of mysql (4.1 but preferably 5)..

I managed to find an ipk for mysql 4.1 for pdaxrom, and being the rash kind of guy, installed it.
(you can tell there is a problem coming)
Unfortunately when i tried to run the mysql daemon it complains that it cant find libstdc++.so.5
Once again i did the random hack thing and created a link from libstdc++.so to libstdc++.so.5

Obviously this didn't work but did respond with an error about GCC 3. From what i've read Cacko is using gcc 2.95 ? so this installation is never going to work.

So I was wondering whether anyone knew of an ipk for mysql that will install and run under cacko? Like I said I'm a web developer by profession so my compiling skills end just after
./configure
make
make install

Is it possible to compile mysql5 for the Z or is it one of those things that is never going to happen?
As a last resort I may consider switching to pdaXrom, but I've had my 860 for 1 year now (well, 362 days) and as soon as I got it I chose cacko because of Maslovsky's great work and skill.

any help you can give me, even if it's "switch to pdaxrom" will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam.

Thanks for the information.  I thought I would reply when I had tried your suggestions but the phone arrived without the USB cable included and I'm still trying to get my hands on it.  Will post when I have it.

The exact model of the phone is VS7.

More when I have the cable.

All the best

Please state the exact Pananasonic cell phone model and the usb data cable model so that I can look it up.

It is also important to plug the cell phone to your Zaurus and post here the output of the commands

dmesg

and

cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

If you can't do it from the Zaurus, you can always try plugging the cell phone to a pc with linux installed and try the same commands.

I am waiting for your results so that I can modify the module and make it work for you :-)

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Cacko3k Feedback
« on: November 30, 2005, 10:01:27 am »
Not sure if this is a configuration option I haven't figured out yet.  After flashing Cacko on my C1000, text files in French which were readable under the Sharp ROM are suddenly full of control characters where the accents used to be.

Any idea what might be needed to get this to work with a Panasonic cell phone with USB data cable?

General Discussion / Ea-bl08 And Sl-c1000

Yep, they actually work for slightly shorter time as a natural drawback...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=103391\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Be careful though. I bought some "compatible" OEM BL-08 from a shop  called Laptops for Less and they did NOT work with the SL-C1000. I have no idea if they would work with the 5500. Instead of charging, they engage a blinking error light and you can leave them like that for as long as you like, they won't power the thing.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Looking For European Reseller !
« on: August 23, 2005, 05:55:46 am »
I bought a 4-AA battery pack from AddonsWorld.co.uk, which I think was mentioned here. It worked fine with my Zaurus for approximately 15 minutes. Then it started overheating, the plastic started to melt, and now it's unusable with one destroyed battery permanently welded into the unit.  Luckily the Zaurus was undamaged.

Any suggestions on more reliable 4-AA packs?

Thanks
Rohan

The battpacks work really well. I normall have 8 (2x4) Batteries with me. I have never got to use the second set. Longest being a 11 hour plane journey,

C1000/3x00 Hardware / External Drive And Power Supply..

I see, thanks!  The subsequent question is (naturally), does anyone know how us gaijins in Europe can get our hands on one of these cables?

Thanks!

Could you elaborate on this pcord ("power cord"?) strategy for charging the Z (1000/3000) via USB?  I must be a little slow on this one. The USB chargers I've seen for sale don't fit the 1000.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / External Drive And Power Supply..
« on: August 18, 2005, 05:53:29 pm »
I was just looking at this drive:

http://www.vosonic.com/index.php?php_mode=spec&php_itemid=36

It's powered, so I'm wondering if there's any reason the Zaurus couldn't use it as an external drive.

Another question: some of these come with a car charger, and I thought that one might be compatible with the SL-C1000 until I realised it takes 2.5A (5V).

Does anyone know if a USB or car charger for the SL-C1000 is out anywhere yet, or has anyone got a different one to work with the Z?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Help - Usb-ethernet On C1000
« on: May 20, 2005, 11:44:33 am »
In case it helps anyone else, I found the module to use.  It's at:

http://www.sky.sannet.ne.jp/morostar/download/download.html

Careful, you have to use the second link, the file that is under the SL-C3000 directory; there are two.

I now have eth0.  Still trying to get the network configuration working.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Help - Usb-ethernet On C1000
« on: May 20, 2005, 10:47:07 am »
Thanks, that looks promising. Searching for rtl8150-1.o on Google only points to your site, which doesn't seem to have a download link. I've found various variants of the rtl8150.c, but I can't seem to get them to compile.

I did find one "rtl8150.o" but it does nothing and does not create eth0 when I drop it in the directory you specified.  I'm still looking for a way to either compile the driver or find a working copy of the binary. You couldn't put up a link to your binary, could you?

Rohan

since your usb device seems to be a rtl8150, you're in luck!

have a look at my website which describes how you can get your usb lan device working.
