Software / New Japanese Dictionaries For Zbedic

I also wish that zbedic would support ~ in the text of the translation (by substituting the ~ with the headword).  This way the size of the dictionaries could be reduced further.

I am not sure that's true. zlib probably takes care of headword repetitions. Anyway, zbedic support the hw tag, which is some cases could take less space than the headword itself

Sharp ROMs / Zroadmap
« on: April 29, 2006, 11:18:39 am »
I don't play with my Zaurus much anymore, but I needed a newer version of zroadmap. I compiled roadmap-1.0.12 and hacked together a new ipk using zroadmap-1.0-2 one. Please try if it works.

Thanks.

Software / Anyone Got A Working Wiki2bedic.pl

I have a version that is (somewhat) working. At least it doesn't go to an infinite loop. The content of the entries is not perfect -- i see '\n', {sa} etc., but I don't have time (and free space on my laptop) to fix it.

strfryed,

I started the web server on moria.ionkov.net. Download whatever you need, it is going down again when I remember to bring it down in the next few days.

Software / Edit A Dictionary
« on: December 15, 2004, 09:22:15 am »
Adding entries to small zbedic dictionaries is probably not that hard to implement (and not that slow).

Before I lost interest in the development I was thinking of changing the bedic format to support two wordlists -- one big and read-only, and another (hopefully) small and editable. And of course to enhance xerox to merge the second section to the first.

Software / How to speed up zbedic?

Argh, sorry. I forgot to setup the permissions. Please try again.

P.S. You won't be able to see 0.9.2-2 anywhere, because I just created it today for you to test

ZDevil,

Can you try the version from: http://moria.ionkov.net/zaurus/zbedic/zbedic_0.9.2-2_arm.ipk. The only difference is that I removed the integrity checks. Unfortunately I cannot test with wikipedia dictionary (not CF card big enough), but on C760 with two big dictionaries (en-0.8.3 and enbgen-0.9.1) the startup time is less than 5 seconds.

Thanks

How slow is zbedic? How many dictionary files do you have?

zbedic parses the headers, and does integrity check of all the dictionary files on startup.

Sharp ROMs / European map program for c700
« on: July 28, 2004, 09:44:03 am »
guylhem,

gpsbabel converts only waypoints, tracks and routes, not the actual maps. zroadmap uses its own proprietary format that follows closely TIGER/UA definitions and probably won't be convenient for any other map format.

Software / mplayer and ogg vorbis
« on: July 15, 2004, 03:25:48 pm »
you cannot use the standard libvorbis. It requires floating point instructions which are emulated on the Z and are way too slow to get any useful result. You have to use tremor.

gab74,

I am still reading the forums, but I don't remember anything particular about compiling mplayer. I remember discussing the compilation on devnet forum, but I couldn't find anything. May be it was the old zauruszone forum...

You can start compiling tremor library (you can get it from xiph.org). You may also need to compile libogg (not sure). You have to check the configure options for mplayer for yourself.

Not much help, sorry ...

Software / some keys don't work with keyz
« on: June 26, 2004, 06:26:17 pm »
If anyone wants to correct the xml definitions and send me the corrected ones, I'll create a new version. I don't spend much time programming for the Zaurus, so it is unlikely to do it myself.

tq,

Yes, there is possibility for what are you talking about, but the reality is that there is no such product at the moment.

mjalkut,

You won't find such product for the simple reason that its potential users for the Z are less than a hundred. The companies that produce mapping applications for other PDAs are not interested. Independent developers cannot afford to license good map databases. I checked -- even if I create the software for free, with such a small user base, the cost for the end user would be hundreds of dollars (let me guess how many of you would buy it for that price :)
