Cxx0 Hardware / repair advice for bad NAND blocks
« on: October 20, 2005, 07:42:46 pm »
I expect the result on how to repair Z's with bad nand blocks -and flashing mail lights - is still that they're bricked?
Just lost the second C700 to this, fortunately the first one could be bounced back to conics. Don't think I had this last one much more than 12 months (sniff old pal)
I think its how most Z's die....

The recovery package is great if you've just had a bad NAND flash but doesn't get over hardware failures. So if you've been messing with flashes and get an error its probably recoverable. Maybe not if it just breaks one day and shows up nand errors etc in the D+M tests.

Now has anyone got any info or actually tried replacing the nand chip?

Guess they're BGA and remember a Japanese site looking at hardware?

« on: March 25, 2005, 08:30:25 pm »
Hi, anybody considered porting atanks to the Z?
sorry total noob at linux let alone cross compiling etc so not much use myself, but it looks potentially a great game for a train journey.
Its on the standard deb feeds or http://atanks.sourceforge.net/

Sharp ROMs / Broken Samba By Installing Smbclient
« on: March 25, 2005, 08:20:37 pm »
For anyone looking - have done some work on my home LAN. The zaurus may be trying to take control as a workgroup master, since it seems to stop all windows networking quite effectively as soon as it connects. I think it competes with a W2k box I have recently added and really stuffs it when my linux box find its in smb4k.

Will have to sort this but canvassing for anyone else having the same issue?

I have to work through smb.conf...

Sharp ROMs / Broken Samba By Installing Smbclient

Thanks stupkid,
I've got syncing going in simple mode and an smbd restart didn't seem to hang as it did before. Don't know if this is a good thing to do.
It hasn't sorted the semphore timeout but maybe more reboots or two at either end.
Haven't done anything else though and need to find some more time on it.

Any other ideas always welcome

Sharp ROMs / Broken Samba By Installing Smbclient
« on: March 16, 2005, 07:42:05 pm »
Hi,
Have done a lot of searching around but can't dig up the right info apparently.
Got a C700 -cacko 1.22a (by far my favourite for some time). Desktops running XP or Mepis with wlan and was all running great to see the Z, browse, transfer files and even sync.

Thought it might be nice to see the PC shares using smbclient so installed off the cacko feed through the gui. Also put on smbspool. There was an 'I'm sorry' error and the samba server stopped working (actually not sure if it was exactly then). Anyway after I took off smbclient and smbspool it definitely wasn't working.

Ping etc and seeing the Z on network list all ok but get a 'semaphore timeout' when try to browse the Z from PC.

Having put smbclient back again,  smbmount and the smbclient work great, not apparently the server.  Doing ps aux shows nmbd running but no smbd -noob so don't know if it should be there?
Also could'nt find any samba startup scripts anywhere to restart it. I imagine syncing's gone down on the usb but haven't tried since.

Please, please any ideas what may have occurred and how to fix it?
